Microsoft finally announced the price for Kinect and unsurprisingly it’s $149.99. The entry level package for Xbox 360 owners includes the sensor and Kinect Adventures. Additional games like Kinect Sports, Kinect Joy Ride, and Dance Central will retail for $49.99 or $10 less than the average Xbox 360 game.

imageDon’t have an Xbox 360? Microsoft is ready with a Kinect hardware bundle. This package includes a remodeled Xbox 360 with 4GB of flash memory (note: this model does not have a hard drive and currently Microsoft is not selling hard drives for the slim Xbox 360), controller, Kinect, Kinect Adventures, and a code to download three additional levels for $299.99.

You can get the 4GB Xbox 360 starting on August 3 for $199.99. Kinect and its hardware bundle makes its debut in North America on November 4th.

150 bucks, woa… good thing i dont own a xbox, ..actually, with that price, i’d prefer to get a psp more than the kinect, … but with the blunded is not that bad, 300 dollars, so the xbox slim is 150 as well.. the same as a brand new psp… interesting…

  • Hraesvelgr

So, $150 + $50 games? And the Move is $130? How much are PSM games? Either way, this doesn’t really seem like it’s going to attract the Wii’s “casual” crowd. A Wii is $200 with native motion control versus Kinect and Move, which cost almost as much as a Wii… without adding in the price of a console. Don’t think this will work as well as they hoped…

Sony said their move games would be $39.99 retail pre-order info seems to echo that statement. I will agree that I don’ think this is going to go how they plan, both are priced out of the target audiences range but with move sitting at $90 (with out sub controller) I can see current PS3 owners giving it a shot. Where as Kinect @ $150 with abosolutly nothing to sell it, is not likely to be something that many 360 owners want “try out”. Move at least has Dead Space Extraction for those buying DS2 on PS3 and semi known brands like Time Crisis and Socom. I think both are going to heavily underperform, but from what I have seen MS is going to take it the hardest because they really seem to be “all in”.

I take they’ll go the usual $1 = 1€ route (as Amazon Germany wants 53€ for Kinect games)

So $350 (€?) for Kinect + basic Xbox360 model + Sonic Freeriders (Riders series is so much fun).

    Err… no thanks.

Just for fun, here’s the current motion control run-down:Basic PS3 + Move Bundle = $400Basic 360 + Kinect Bundle= $350Wii = $200 It’s amazing how much money you can spend on things you don’t want for your HD consoles =P.

I don’t care. And 4GB is not enough for my needs anyway. 13GB is ok, which is why I’m not yet changing my 360 for a Slim, but anything less would leave me too tight for space. Also, $150 for a camera is insane. I thought they would do the smart thing and price it lower in order to penetrate the market faster, but apparently I misjudged them.

The thing Nintendo rejected is already getting rejected, based on previous comments, other reactions elsewhere, and my own feelings of definitely not getting this souped-up eyetoy.

As a side note, anyone else notice that 360 on the kinect bundle does not look “glossy” in that pic? It could be that they want to really display the Kinect camera but what create a new stock photo that makes the console looks matte, unless the new arcades will be a matte finish….

    • thebanditking

Confirmed, Greenberg said the new Arcade bundle will come with a matte black console.

Good catch. I didn’t like the shiny black at all, but 4Gb of flash memory instead of 250Gb HDD.. I wonder how much that HDD would go for, the old model is $130.. I must say w/ the current line-up of “games”, $150 is way too much.. at least Move has a bunch of light gun games I want to try, like Dead Space Extraction or RE5 Gold.. I like the matte finish though. As for the pricing, seems like they are caught btwn a rock and a hard place, we all wanted them to sell it at $100 but knew it’s not likely, so it’s still $150 except being bundled w/ a game.. I’m thinking that the 3DS might not be as cheap as some people want it to be too, because the demand will be high anyway.. this is a bit too much for a peripheral that plays casual games though, at least for the moment..

    Microsoft expects this to sell?
Microsoft would have had to give it away for free for me to even consider hooking it up to my Xbox 360.
    I can’t imagine people buying this thing…

Who knows if it’ll actually sell or not? It’s got Walmart’s seal of approval. It showed up in the first 10 minutes in a movie they produced for NBC’s Family Movie Night last week. I highly doubt what I’m about to say, but maybe it’ll be slightly cheaper there.

I think I’ll wait for some mature games to come out on it first ¬_¬ actually forget it in my opinion it’s a stupid idea. It needs space my room hasn’t got lol I can’t see this selling in Tokyo at all lol :P If I want to be active I’ll be active outside with real people :D Perfect example of the saying “If it aint broken don’t fix it” nothing was wrong with controllers.

    • Aoshi00

Space is a hurdle for me too, I can’t jump up and down like crazy in my place even if I want to, and the dancing game does look fun.. If Kinect has some more mature games like you said, I would give it a try later. Right now it seems like I’m leaning more toward Move.

      • karasuKumo

I agree the dancing game does look fun and move is more appealing at the moment but I’ve never really been a motion games fan but that’s just me. Sort of like watching a film while running on the spot, you might not enjoy it as much. It’s fine for non story based games I guess and even some RPG’s/Action games a perfect examples being Xenoblade and Twilight Princess. It’ll have to be a “try before you buy” situation for me.

Sorry Naoki, I’ll have to forfeit playing Dance Masters for now
