Action Figures Become Video Game Characters In Gun Loco

By Spencer . August 16, 2010 . 10:07am

gunloco9A sprint-action shooter? That’s what Square Enix is calling Gun Loco, a new third person shooter project in development for Xbox 360. Gun Loco’s levels are designed with objects to jump, duck, and vault off of while shooting. The game has an online multiplayer mode that supports up to twelve players.

Gun Loco takes place on a prison planet where intergalactic criminals run wild. Characters for the game, which include a convict wearing a rabbit head, were originally handcrafted posable action figures created by Brothersworker. These were scanned into the game to create the bizarre bunch of sociopaths seen below.

Square Enix has Gun Loco slated for release in 2011 only on Xbox 360.

It doesn’t really sound like SE but saying that I don’t own an xbox so I’ll pass on this

  • I know I’m generalizing here, but this just keeps coming to my mind:
First we got nothing but RPGs from Japan and nothing but shooter from the west, now we get RPGs and shooters from Japan and nothing but shooters with RPG elements from the west.

Focusing on mobility through objects around the player seems to be a good idea though.

    • malek86

There already was a good number of shooters with more-or-less developed RPG elements from the west (System Shock, Hexen, etc.) well before japanese companies started to join the craze of shooters.Unfortunately, they weren’t too popular back then.

      • Ha, how come I haven’t thought of these? I even played a good portion of these hybrid games back then, though I never thought of them as RPG-FPS mixes until recently.

I have a rabbit head at home that I wear from time to time but I’ve never committed any crime

  • Hraesvelgr

    Looks.. bad…

    • I dunno, looks like it could be anything. I hope it turns out alright, personally.

But who knows how it’ll turn out.

      • Hraesvelgr

Well, I am basing this entirely off of the art direction, of course.

  • Proooocedin

    360 exclusive? Fail.

    • Hraesvelgr

It’s not a question of exclusivity, but a question of quality. Will it be a good game? Doesn’t look or sound particularly interesting to me, but that’s the real issue, rather than what it’s for.

  • liamscanlan

    Looks like it’s official then.

  • xavier axol

I think square enix should stick making final fantasy games and forget the fps. Just how long before final fantasy versus 13, I don’t want to be 30 years old, before I get to play the dam thing.

    • Hraesvelgr

They have more than one team, you know. I doubt this hinders Versus XIII’s development at all.

  • I am SOOO~ sick of this FPS era that has taken place. Wut the hell is goin on here? Can any major company stick to wut has brought them here and much success from its fans. SE doens’t need ne FPS game at all. We need another FF game in its original glory and it wouldn’t hurt to make another Grandia. *Had to add in my lil request. lol

    • Hraesvelgr

After Grandia III, I’m going to have to say “lolno” to more Grandia. I didn’t think the first two were that great, but the third one… wow.

      • Sure the story was cheesy as hell, maybe nearing Star Ocean 3 standards, but I found the NPC conversations and the godly battle system enjoyable. It’s kind of a guilty pleasure :P

I wouldn’t say no to Grandia 4, but where’s Shadow Hearts when I need it T-T

        • Yes~! Shadow Hearts mos def. maybe a grandia universe wit every1 from the first 3 or sumthin new. I cud use another 1 of either both.

  • Gio32k

What makes me loco, is this being an Xbox 360 exclusive. Guess squares isn’t showing the love for the PS3.

  • When I first saw the rabbit I thought of Robbie from the Silent Hill games.
As for this game, it seems a little too over the top for me. Maybe the “oldness” in me is starting to rear its head.
