Mass Effect 2 Coming To PS3 With Hours Of Bonus Content

Well, it’s finally happening. Mass Effect 2 is coming to the PlayStation 3, with additional bonus content. Electronic Arts aren’t specifying what this is just yet, though, and have only announced a release window so far, which is January 2011.

You can watch an announcement trailer for the game at Bioware’s Mass Effect 2 website.

Oooo. Sick burn. Doesn’t interest me though. Still not picking it up.

I wonder if they’ll ever release the first one,I think the choices of the first one affect the second one or something right?.

  • Anonymous

Soo, besides generic FPS and a few cool shumps, what does the 360 have left anymore?

  • malek86

The fact that the ME1 was published by Microsoft while ME2 was handled by EA directly, makes me think that they only had full exclusivity for the first game, while the sequel was already planned to be a temporal exclusive from the start (notice how it also spans two discs).

If that were the case, there would be no way for them to publish ME1 on PS3.

  • Anonymous

Enough if you already own the console but new potential owners will have a harder choice as the exclusives dwindle on the MS side of things. Thats the price you pay for spending the last 5 years “stealing” a version of another consoles games, rather then building your own first party.

Though Halo and Gears are likely enough for the die hards to justify the purchase. In my opinion loosing Gears of War would have been a bigger “blow” to the systems continued success.

    Halo? :

I’ll get it depending on what they add. I own the 360 version, but have not gotten any of the DLC yet. Will be nice if they add all the DLC.

Of course most posts about this announcement will be centered around the “console wars” but I have two very important questions:

    1. The game will be a year old when this releases, will anyone care?
    2. Is Bioware doing this port or is EA farming it out? If its the latter I don’t see this ending well (see Mafia 2 PS3)

  • Hraesvelgr

    What’s a shump?

  • Anonymous

Would not count on it, though its not like both games could not fit on one Blu-ray (because they would, easily). Its the simple fact that Microsoft Games Studios published the original, and while MS does not own the IP they do own the rights to the original retail release from a publishing perspective. It would require MS relinquishing control over that and reaching an agreement with EA and Bioware, which since you don’t see this as part of the announcement I’m guessing they could not come to terms.

  • andref

But really the important thing to remember is that 5 years have passed since it’s initial release. If you have not already gotten your system of choice already, I doubt there is much more needed to sway you to either side of this retarded flame war between console owners

  • Hraesvelgr

This is all well and good, but unless they change the PS3 version, you will just be railroaded into (arguably) the worst choices that ME1 gave you. Maybe they will surprise me, though, and it won’t just be a lazy port.

Side/verticle scrolling shooters (Ikurga, Trigger Heart)

  • malek86

Well, if it ends up just like Bioshock, it won’t be too successful.

But the point is that EA wants to try and get the series on the platform, so that when ME3 is released, they can make it multiplatform and have some more people buying it on PS3 because they liked ME2.

I doubt they really care about making too much money off this port. It’s ME3 they are interested in.

  • Anonymous

What about the first one? >_>

  • Anonymous

People do this all the time, because the idea is they buy it because of game X but are happy because of all the other games that follow. True but it would be silly to assume that all of the 360s monthly sales come from people replacing broken units (its a good 35% of it I’ll say that) and PS3 being 4 years old continues to have year over year growth. So obviously the console life cycle has changed and the 5 yr mark is the new 3. I don’t think there are many would be PS3 owners that will be swayed by this announcement, its more like EA trying to sell it to the current owners to expand the series fanbase for the inevitable multiplatform Mass Effect 3.

  • Anonymous

correct, largely because Bioware wanted it to be only 360 because it was a new IP and because MS was more the willing to publish it. The second game would have fallen under that same deal but since the deal did not include ownership of the IP when Bioware moved so did the game and thus here we are.

  • malek86

It’s like a shrimp, but a bit different. Its taste lasts less, but you can eat many of them and not get bored. Though, you’ll have to pay 50 cents for every single one you eat. Either that, or you can wat as many as you want for $60.

Unfortunately, they are an acquired taste, and so most western restaurants won’t have them. The only hope is to import them directly from Japan, but most of the time you’ll need to use a japanese pot to boil them. If you use an american pot, the shell won’t open, no matter what, not allowing you to eat them.

funny most posts about this announcement centered around the “console wars” were from you! good prediction;)

Maybe the hours of extra content is the first game leading into the second but with the gameplay of the second game.

  • Anonymous

I am always glad about more RPGs for the PS3, but isn’t kind of pointless without ME1? At least that’s what I hear.

  • andref

Nononono, i’m not saying anything about system sales, I’m just saying that buying a console and only planning on getting one or two games is just stupid which i think some do.

MASS EFFECT 2 ON PS3 IN JAN?!

    HOW’S THAT EVEN WORK?!

    *HEAD EXPLODES*

I believe the joke is now on you.

  • http://denpanosekai.blogspot.com denpanosekai

    Fascinating information.

but EA, what happened in the first Mass Effect?

  • Anonymous

Please let the first Mass Effect come to PS3, I would like to see 2 game on one 50-GB Blu-Ray disc. I wonder if the “hours of bonus content” is ME1.

I wonder, though, if ME1 could be downloadable. MS may have retail rights, but I know in SOME cases, retail and online sales are different. Hmmm…

  • Anonymous

It’s hard to tell who is joking on message forums. I never assume that someone is actually asking a question they know the answer to, I just don’t see the humor in that.

  • Anonymous

Yes amusing isn’t it. Though in my own defense I am merely replying to others posting within that topic, while at the same time feeding into my own previous comment. A self fulfilling prophecy.

  • Anonymous

Others have suggested this same thing. That the extra content is actually the last 4 hours of ME1 so that you have something to carry over into ME2.

  • Anonymous

they have better ports of existing games. smoother framerate and often better resolution.

that’s pretty much it. “IF” you’re a multiplatform gamer and live off those it’s clearly the best platform.

That said, I’m not that kind of customer.

  • Aoshi00

I think the joke was the guy from the first post mispelled shmup as shump, so… good explanation from malek86 though lol

  • http://eonhack.blogspot.com theclaw

Well we don’t know what effect MS not publishing the PC version had. ME1 wasn’t even given a formal press release announcing it for PC, until after the 360 one had already hit shelves.

  • Anonymous

yes, I found it amusing. self fulfilling prophecy is a good way to explain it. I also do that often ;)
