Facebook Files: What Localization Announcements Would You Like From TGS 2010?

http://www.siliconera.com/wordpress/wp-content/uploads/2010/08/metal_max_3.jpg With the Tokyo Game Show coming up, it won’t be long until a bunch of us start to feel the pre-show excitement that usually accompanies the build-up to these events.

Typically, localization announcements aren’t made at TGS, but David suggested the thought in a Facebook thread and it occurred to me that this would make a whole lot of sense for more niche games, since TGS tends to be the event of choice to follow for people interested in those experiences.

TLS and Xenoblade are Nintendo games, so the chances of anyone else bringing those over are close to zero. Also, Nintendo don’t usually attend TGS, so I doubt you’ll hear of them at the event. I’m sure both games will make it over eventually though.

Personally, I’d still like to see a localization announcement for Last Bullet, but that’ll never happen. Also, I’m not sure TGS is the event for localization announcements…although, it would make sense for the more niche games.

So, what localization announcements would you like out of Tokyo Game Show, if any were to be made?

  • Noooo!! I was JUST about to check the Facebook Files, hahaha.

Not that I have an answer, come to think of it. Hehh.

  • shion16

    Inazuma eleven to America

    • Inazuma’s overseas release has already been announced. It just doesn’t have a date.

  • satchidananda

    I agree with David.

  • malek86

As usual: Yggdra Unison and Brandish. Also, Blaze Union would be cool, but I’m pretty sure that one will eventually happen.

    • neo_firenze

For what it’s worth, Brandish is very import friendly since it’s mainly a dungeon hack without a lot of text. And the Japanese UMD plays on any region PSP. It is a great game though, and sure would be nice to see it get wider release. From Falcom, I’d be more interested in Zero no Kiseki though, since that’s much more language heavy and harder to import for people who aren’t fluent in Japanese.

      • Speaking of region friendly, why is it that the Jxbox360 is region friendly but not the other way around also? I find that to be rather crappy.

        • Code

I concur with your findings. 360’s regional locking IS crappy. But I guess technically it’s not exactly the systems fault, it just happens that most US games are regional free, and most Japanese games are regionally locked, which gives J360 a noticeable advantage when it comes to the pool of games they can play.

          • The weird part is the PAL version is actually fairly secure – Only a few games are listed region free on PAL. You’ll often get games that work on a Japanese and US 360, but not the PAL regions.

So yeah, it’s kinda screwy that way.

  • Justinzero

    The new A.C.E game.

    • That would be pretty awesome, but considering the fact that it uses so many different licenses, it would be pretty damn near impossible to bring it stateside.

      • godmars

Think the only real hold up is Macross/Robotech.

      • Guest

Worked for Tatsunoko vs Capcom, but yeah like Godmars said, main problem is Harmony Gold and their Nazi like hold on anything Macross/Robotech related

  • From Nintendo: Xenoblade, The Last Story, Zangeki no REGINLEIV.3rd Party: Tales of Graces, Earth Seeker, Puyo Puyo 7. And for the hell of it if it can be polished up; Kizuna. Not much notable 3rd Party Wii games I know of in Japan that haven’t come out in NA.

  • tales of something

    anything Q_Q

    • MrRobbyM

Tales of Anything has a nice ring to it.

  • zhemos

    Tales of Graces F

  • Tales of Vesperia (PS3), Graces F, and the new Tales, obviously. =P

  • A SRW for the PS3

  • Disgaea 4 please! Disgaes 3 PSP, Persona 4 PSP.

    I Guess those counts

  • Some word on Tales plans for America might be nice, yes, although it’s really looking like Namco is essentially giving up on the American market at this point.

Might be interesting to see if anyone announces if Fate/Extra has gotten picked up for Western distro – although that’d make me a little sad since it’d mean I missed the boat on that one!

    • Grumble – I don’t need enough reminders to get a move on with the playtest at my end… I blame Neptune for that.

      … Oh oops, I wasn’t supposed to reveal that…

      • Melinda why must you make me a sad panda. :(

        • But all I was noting was I’m late for my Japanese playtest of Fate/Extra. Neptune decided to stump me with a few gripes (and believe me, I want to clobber Compile Heart for THIS curveball…) which pushed back Fate/Extra even further.

… Unless you’re waiting for that one, in which case, I apologize.

I think I’ll announce the formal stream of the playtest (Like I said, blame Neptune for that one) eventually, although informally, I’ll probably just stream unannounced…

          • Yeah, I’m curious to hear what SE has to say about Fate/Extra.

Also looking forward to your clobbering Compile Heart. I’ll go make popcorn. :3

          • Kibbitz

Well, Fate/Extra has its fun moments, but it’s really nothing fantastic game-wise. Maybe in terms of story at best?

          • Not the entire game – The game’s pretty polarising though – I’ve got to do the second draft for Neptune.

If I had to sum it up – It basically emphasises the best and the worst of a typical Japanese RPG.

  • [The Hunter] Doomrider

The Last Ranker and Catherine, thank you.

    Oh! And a Vesperia/Graces F double pack.

  • cjeromek

SaGa ds, tales if anything, shining feather + hearts, that’s about the only things I can think of right now.

    • malek86

That too. I would really like to try Shining Hearts.

  • Pichi

Would like Luminous Arc 3 or anything Tales if possible.

  • neo_firenze

Zero no Kiseki would be my biggest, perhaps along with a new Falcom announcement (maybe a Ys Origin PSP port, or Ys IV remake a la Oath in Felghana?). Wouldn’t be totally insane either, as Falcom will be hyping ZnK’s late September release and their plans after that are unknown so far. Plus, noting the new big new Xseed relationship for US ports seems a little less out of place at TGS than a random one off announcement by another company to a Japanese audience.

Other than that… Catherine. Prinny 2 would be nice too, but I’m doubting that one.

Stuff I’d love but have little hope for – Blood of Bahamut, SaGa 2 DS, 7th Dragon, Yakuza PSP or Kenzan! (yeah right), Luminous Arc 3, Virtual On Force.

  • karasuKumo

    A new Tales title :D

  • Code

God I could write all day about what I wanna see localized and what sadly hasn’t seen any word of localization yet omo; *crosses arms and frowns*

  • sdragon21

SAGA 2 DS, and hopefully one of the Hatsune Miku PSP games.

  • Tales of the World: Radiant Mythology 2, Tales of the World: Radiant Mythology 2, Shining Hearts.

  • 7th Dragon.

  • kylehyde

The only choices that I have Super Robot Taisen OG Saga: Endless Frontier EXCEED and any Inazuna eleven games.

I have some choices from nintendo games, but we have to be realistic, nintendo most of the time is absent in this event. So maybe we’ll have to wait to their press conference on september 29 if NOA decides to localize Xenoblade or Last Story, and if we have all the luck of the universe, Last window.

  • Methylene

    La Pucelle Ragnarok!

    <.< What?

Also, Catherine, Prinny 2, and Tales of Vesperia (PS3)

  • ShinGundam

    So far nothing.

  • MisterNiwa

Catherine and Tales Of Graces F and New Tales.

  • Rarutos

Lots of Tales games. Shining Hearts, any Sakura Wars (lol, doubt it), Atelier Lina, Atelier Judie, and Atelier Totori, though Totori probably won’t be announced for a while.

    • Yeshua49

Damn i completely forgot Atelier Lina existence^_^’, i really like Atelier Annie and from what i have heard Lina is better, it need to be localized.

    • Lina is probably never going to happen, unfortunately. Well, unless it can be digitally distributed at a later date. Then, there’s a tiny chance we’ll see it someday.

      • Hey, if Annie can show up a year or two out after its release, I’m sure Lina could too… I mean Sakura Taisen V showed up five YEARS after its initial release so why-

… Okay, I’m deluding myself here, but hey, it’s fun.

      • Really? That surprises me, I was under the impression that Annie did quite well. It reviewed solidly and seemed to move enough units to make it profitable…That said, how well Rorona does could reflect on the fortunes of the entire franchise in the West, and, well, I can’t hide a worry or two on that front (that have nothing to do with who is localizing it, mind).

        • Not well enough. :(

          • Oh, fie and damnation. Lina’s even better than Annie, too, it’s one of the best-reviewed Atelier titles in years in Japan. Bah, I was looking forward to that one, too.

… Wonder if there’s anything that can be done about this. Hm.

          • Yeshua49

There is Rorona in a month maybe NISA don’t want to release Lina yet to avoid competition with themselve and if it’s not release maybe in xx years there will be a translation patch.

  • gatotsu911

Xenoblade and The Last Story. The Last Story and Xenoblade. Xenoblade and, quite possibly, The Last Story. These are the games that I would like to see localized. A lot.

Short of that, a US PSN release of Xenogears and Vagrant Story (similar!) would be nice.

  • Yeshua49

Tales of Graces f, Tales of Vesperia PS3, Tales of Hearts, Shiren the Wanderer 3 portable, Shiren the Wanderer 4, Shiren the wanderer 5, Arc Rise Fantasia (not announced in Europe yet), Xenoblade, The Last Story and Zangeki no Reginleiv would be enough to make me happy but i’m pretty sure none of that will happen (at TGS i mean).

  • My list wud b the idolmaster series, agarest war 2 and zero, I still want Namco x Capcom, Far East of Eden: Ziria, etc. Theres so~ many others.

  • goronyan

tov and tog with dual-audio because I hate eng dub

  • Dimentionalist

Tales of Graces F and Vesperia PS3.

  • Slashlen

I’d like to hear that Catherine’s making it overseas. Disgaea 4 would be nice too.

  • MrRobbyM

TLS, Last Story and ANY Tales of game.

  • mikanko

Senko no Ronde Duo, Virtual-On Force, any Cave games, Atelier and Tales of anything

  • raymk

Tales of anything people have said a mouthful already.

  • Tales of Graces F (I’m not even going to hope for Vesperia PS3 anymore). Catherine.

Would a NA confirmation of No More Heroes PS3 count?

  • regreto

    Tales of Vesperia PS3 <3

  • maxchain

Does it have to be something that actually has a ghost of a chance of happening someday? Because if not, I’d kill for an announcement about that sequel to Super Robot Taisen OG Saga: Endless Frontier.

  • Finalstar2007

I want all the Tales for PS3 like Vesperia PS3 localized!

  • jarrodand

I’d like to see Atlus, Xseed, Aksys or someone (even Ignition) strike up a deal with Enterbrain for both Metal Max 3 and Earth Seeker.Other than that, it’s mostly just DS games that’ve slipped through the cracks and I’m pretty sure we won’t see (7th Dragon, Retro Game Challenge 2, Sakura Note, SaGa 2, etc).

  • AdamBoy64

    Anything Tales would be nice.

  • Kris

    Sakura Wars VI
    Versus XIII’s release date
    The Last Story
    Yakuza New Chapter: Black Panther

  • Hraesvelgr

The Last Story sounds pretty good to me, yeah.

  • Kibbitz

Count me in for Metal Max 3 too.

  • Tom_Phoenix

Masoukinshin: Lord of Elemental (DS), please! Although, to be honest, even if it does ever get localised, we can’t really expect any news until next year. =(

    But hey, one can hope!

    • Kibbitz

And there’s only 6 voice clips to dub! Easy =P

  • cj_iwakura

Plainly stunned Prinny 2 hasn’t been announced for localization yet.

  • cmurph666

Final Fantasy VII Remake, Chrono Break, Grandia IV, Legend of Dragoon 2, Suikoden VI, Breath of Fire 6, Mega Man Legends 3.

Oh. Wait. None of those actually exist.

    • Mega Man Legends 3 may be closer than you think. I think that Capcom Unity has something floating around with Capcom’s first Comic Con’s press conference(not the one that announced Street Fighter X Tekken) that involved the Mega Man creator. I expect some form of an announcement at TGS.

Back on topic: Tales of anything is long over due.

    My dream list of localizations:
Luminous Arc 3 (last game, don’t leave us fans hanging)
Radiant Historia (branching paths and time travel has me sold)
    Metal Max 3
7th Dragon (yes I still haven’t given up hope. why do I do this to myself?!)
Chocobo Tales 2 (Am I the only one who liked the first Chocobo Tales?! :'( )

Nintendo Wishlist (even though Nintendo won’t announce anything at TGS):
    ASH (yup, my pipe dream… :'( )
Fire Emblem: Warrior of Light and Dark (or something like that? Still waiting Nintendo)
    Last Window
Another Code R (is it really that hard to bring a game which already has an English localization?)
    Last Story

  • AdamBoy64

Oh gees. I can’t believe I forgot, much shame on me. Hearing about a localisation of White Knight Chronicles 2 would be sensational.

    Not likely, however.
