Arc System Works released a batch Arcana Heart 3 screenshots plus art for the three new characters. They are…

 008 012
Eko and Kaz with Saligrama (luck spirit)

 009 011
Weiß with Gottfried (sword spirit)

010 013
Scharlachrot with Baldr (fang spirit)

The game has 23 playable characters and 23 arcana to select. Arcana Heart 3 is the first game in the series to add online play. Arc System Works has a versus mode ready and an arcade style mode where six players take turns fighting each other. When you’re not playing you can watch matches. For newcomers, Arcana Heart 3 has a simple combo system.

Arcana Heart 3 is slated for release on PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 this winter.

Ohhh this looks colorful and interesting, I’ve heard of it before, but don’t know a lot about the series.

I’m waiting for them to at least tell me it doesn’t lag like a mofo at TGS like 2 did.

  • EvilAkito

As long as this isn’t a disaster like AH2, then count me in.

No way, man. Examu knew better than to hire those guys again. I swear, that group must have consisted of 10 monkeys getting drunk off bananas and juggling chainsaws. There’s no WAY they could have screwed it up that bad by actually trying.

Anyway, nothing to worry about! Arc System Works is handling it this time and they always give us great ports. I expect excellent quality this time, unlike the disaster of Lagcarna Heart XP

Xbox 360? Nice! Was AH2 ever released?

    • andref

I don’t think it was released in the US

      • Pichi

Heard negative things like how laggy the second one was. Either the first game didn’t sell well for Atlus USA or the lag was just too bad to fix, as I can’t see that flying past Sony’s people.

I hope this time around this can be released here. Hope there is a back story to learn of what happened in the second installment if it comes here.

        • andref

Anyways, fighting games really don’t have much of a story anyway so I doubt you really need to get caught up on the 2nd’s story

        • http://www.youtube.com/user/xxHiryuuxx Hiryuu

That’s both true and false. On the base PS2, it will lag like utter crap.

On an emulator like PCSX2, it will run much better because of its lag reduction. The only negatives are the compressed graphics and just a little bit of lag in regardless in comparison to the arcade version.

AQ Interactive published Arcana Heart 2 in Japan, but it wasn’t released overseas.

Great! I can’t wait for this game! This will be a much needed release to help me forget about that horrid excuse of a port with AH2. Zenia, Dorothy, Elsa, Heart!

    Goooooooooo~!

I want this, but I don’t want to pay the ridiculous import fees I had to for the first two(granted i got the first one when i saw no signs of its release.). It would be awesome if they released in in the US.

I’ve been actually curious about this, can a PS3 play any region’s PS2 games. The PS3 doesn’t have regional locking, but I was wondering if the PS2 emulation/hardware in the PS3′s was regionally locked for PS2 games, I couldn’t really find an answer anywhere. I mean seems like something I would have hear if it had of been the case, but I’ve missed out on more obvious things before, figure it’s throw asking.

      • Aoshi00

Unfortunately the original B/C US PS3 won’t recognize Jpn PS1/2 games, just like it wouldn’t play R2 DVD movies, the old library is still region locked. But if you d/l PS1 games from the Jpn PSN it would play on your US PS3, that’d be no problem. For Jpn PS2 games, I still use my Jpn PS2 slim and my Pioneer upscaled DVD player (used some software to make it region free) for Jpn DVD movies.

Alright! I’ve been curious about that, I recently saw a Japanese PS2 for sale locally, and the thought crossed my mind again just the other day.

  • cmurph666

    Day 1.

  • Aoshi00

Looks good, and thank you for the easier combo system :)

  • Aoshi00

If the price is right I say go for it. Wonder if a new Jpn PS2 slim is very rare now, you still have many Jpn PS2 games you want to play? My main motivation to pick one up before was to play FFX in Jpn :) Now I still have P3/4 to worry about.. (and still haven’t beaten FF12 yet, I’m further in the Jpn ver too, I left off at beating Balthier’s pops)

I think if it was any other time, I’d have snatched it up, but right now I’m more eager for DUO and J360 to arrive >w<; But I've know of a decent handful of Japanese PS2 games that I wouldn't mind trying out, and a few shmups and fighters in particular I've been curious about.

      • http://twitter.com/matty_125 matty

Wubba wubba, after checking Yahoo Japan Auction the fat PS2s go for around 3000 yen in average, while the flat go for about 5000 yen (used). After looking on eBay for the same systems it’s hard for me to judge what’s a better a deal.

        • Code

haha >w< yeah the one I saw here was $40 for a flat but it was just the system/cables, no controls, but that wouldn't be a big issue. It's usual to see something like this show up locally, I might have to take another look at it.

  • Scallion

Never played AH myself, but I’ve seen others play it.
    It looks great.
And Jesus guys, just mod your PS2.
Go ahead and buy the game if you want, but come on.
20 bucks or less and a little elbow grease is a lot less trouble than importing a PS2.

    • Aoshi00

For me importing a system was much more comforting, some US games ended up not playable on my friend’s modded system. I did’t mind though, I gave my original PS2 to my sis, so I have the Jpn PS2 slim for imports and B/C PS3 for US PS2 games. Plus at the time I wanted a slim.

Never cared much for modding myself, usually I just have systems of both regions so I can play whatever I want. I used to use the freeloader disc swapping for GC, but only some games worked, and for the Wii until they locked it, so I just said screw it I’d get a Jpn Wii, and the black finally came out at the time.

  • JustaGenericUser

I hate that Arcana Heart 1 didn’t do so well in the US. We’ll probably never get another Arcana Heart game, which is too bad because I liked the first. :(

  • thaKingRocka

Arcana Heart is a series that I want to play only because I like the art and animation. I don’t find the game to be much fun at all, but it’s so damn pretty. 2D fighters are just about the most beautiful thing to me, and I find myself buying them to appreciate as art half the time since I stink at so many of them.

  • Chow

I remember introducing a friend to the North American release of the first game. Luckily, he got the last copy from the local EBGames store, since I believe it was a limited release-ish sort of title-y-doo…majiggers.
