Capcom Producing Resident Evil: Damnation CG Movie In Stereoscopic 3D

Those of you that fall on the Leon Kennedy side of Resident Evil fandom might remember 2008’s Resident Evil: Degeneration, a CG film published by Capcom and Sony. You might even have fond memories of it, despite the fact that it wasn’t particularly memorable.

Regardless of quality, Degeneration had a couple things going for it. First, it picked up where Leon’s story in RE4 left off; and second, it reunited him with Claire Redfield, which probably lit up the eyes of more than a few Resident Evil 2 fans.

While Degeneration was limited to a two-week theatrical release in Japan, Capcom reveal that box office revenue surpassed 40 million yen, and that the home video release has shipped over 1.6 million copies worldwide. Naturally, they saw the potential in a follow-up movie.

Enter: Resident Evil: Damnation, a direct sequel that once again puts Leon in the leading role. Damnation is slated for a 2012 release in stereoscopic 3D, but no details on its setting or other characters have been announced yet.

    She’s nice~~~~~~~
There’s a problem with leon’s design, the creator can’t choose one look for him.
I mean If you watch all the Leons in games, movies animations, novels,….artbook!
You will notice the strange active transformation.
other then that I’m looking forward for the movie!

Maybe he’s the real mastermind behind all the RE viruses…

  • Oooo…. Cant wait for it… Although degeneration as mention wasn’t the best… but, it sure lit some lights in me… Leon and claire works perfectly together…!

  • I liked Degeneration, but I couldn’t help but think, “Why didn’t they just make this into a game?”

    • They did. It was released for the N-Gage and iPhone. And it was rather good.

  • Wow, I cant wait. Degeneration was pretty epic. They did an excellent job of making an extensive movie. I have high hopes for this one.

Very nice! Leon comes off as a lot more badass when he’s not constantly getting beheaded or crushed because I’m no good at the QTEs.

Degeneration may not be particularly memorable, but I felt it was easily the best (don’t even get me started on “most loyal”) of the movies. Of course, this probably has something to do with Claire being in it. You can never have enough Claire. Without Claire in this, though, I find it very hard to get excited.

yep, what’s with that ending in Degeneration anyway?
[SPOILERS] I always assumed that Lion and Claire would end up as a couple XP I hope they fix that in this movie

I think canon is Leon and Ada rather than Leon and Claire. Claire has Steve or some nonsense. I never liked Steve.

Though if you consider the books canon, there was a tad bit of Wesker/Claire in the Code: Veronica book as well.

        • Steve is dead~

He got turned into a boss in Code:Veronica.

I agree that Degeneration was more faithful to the series but I personally liked the first and now that I have seen it 4th RE movies. I just went to see the new one over the weekend and thought it was great (for what it is anyway).

I actually enjoyed the Resident Evil movies for what they were. They’re fun little action flicks, but I don’t really consider them any more than than that. I’ve only seen the first two, though, and the others better?

  • Hooray for another game universe movie!

  • thebanditking

    Awesome, that is all.

  • I really hope Rebecca Chambers (my all-time favourite videogame character) makes an appearance. It was said in the commentary for Degeneration that they were interested in making a sequel featuring Rebecca as the main character (due to her then increasing popularity). Of course, it looks like Leon will continue to be the main character, but I just hope that Rebecca does appear in some shape or form.

The original was terrible….but I’m still going to watch the sequel.
