Mega Man Legends 3 Announced For Nintendo 3DS

By Ishaan . September 28, 2010 . 11:14pm

Straight from Capcom, we have confirmation of Mega Man Legends 3 for Nintendo 3DS. While they didn’t share too many details, Capcom’s U.S. division posted the following on Twitter:

“While we can’t get into too many details, we can say that fans will have an opportunity to be part of the dev process like never before as they interact directly with the team! How exactly? You’ll have to stay tuned for more news at NYCC (New York Comic-Con).”

No further details have been revealed yet, aside from a message by the game’s director, Masakazu Eguchi:

“As you can see, Inafune is very enthusiastic about this project. And that new development style that he said he would go into more detail about later, I’m sure you won’t be disappointed by that. We think not only fans of the series, but anyone interested in Mega Man Legends will be like, “What? …OMG!!!”

When I and the rest of the staff first heard that were that we were doing this, we were shaking in our boots. All of us were asking our bosses, “Are you guys serious?”

But the proposition was interesting to say the least. So, now here we are making intense preparations and trying to stay on schedule.”

    Fantastic. Looks like I’m buying a 3DS.

I hope we finally find out what happens after Legends 2 now. It would suck if it’s a prequel or sidestory after waiting so long for the game.

  • This makes the $50 weekend pass even more worth it.

I’m buying it. I just hope it doesn’t follow suit to the rest of the franchises and another great Capcom series gets ruined(DMC4 and Resident Evil 4/5.)

Just read the 3DS price. Until Nintendo drops the price of the 3DS to $250 or less then I’m not picking this or it up. I refuse to buy something that is the same price as the two hd consoles unless it’s a console that is atleast near equal or better in specs.

  • Okay, you finally sold me 3DS. Hopefully at the end of this game they won’t trap Megaman in space for another 10 years.

Do not mess this up, Capcom. I have been waiting too long for this.

    You could say…

    *puts on sunglasses*

    ..the wait was legendary.

    YEEEEAAAAAAAAH (sorry had to lol)

“When I and the rest of the staff first heard that were that we were doing this, we were shaking in our boots. All of us were asking our bosses, “Are you guys serious?””

yep, they were just told Capcom is outsourcing it to a western studio to make it more attractive to the holy West. Expect space marine Megaman or scrawny emo-looking Megaman smoking like there’s no tomorrow.

    • If they were going to do that, then spend a little time and money to do it right. And by right, I mean CONSOLES!

3D gaming is a new technology.(as a testament as to how recently PS3 version 3.5 firmware was released. 3.5 enabled 3D gaming on the system.) Capcom is seriously expecting this to fail HARD if they are throwing this together as a launch title for the 3DS.

    • Don’t joke like that. They said that to the fact that capcom wanted them to make the damn game period.

  • For 3DS? Way to kick your fans in the balls, Capcom. You finally release a game fans have been wanting for a LONG damn time and still find a way to screw it up.

    Good job!

    • Seriously! I’m am completely mind boggled as to how this move was decided. I Just…..

      • It’s pretty easy, really:1. The Rockman Dash series is not a HUGE sales success, especially not outside of Japan, so Inafune can’t justify an “HD twins” budget for the game. He’s said as much before: (and probably the biggest reason) Handhelds have won in Japan. Consoles are fighting for third place. According to Media Create, lifetime sales of the PS3, 360 and Wii combined are just barely higher than PSP alone. It’s pretty obvious from these numbers that fans of the series are more likely to own a handheld than anything else. What will be interesting to see is whether Japan goes for the 3DS despite its higher price, or whether the low price of the DS/PSP compared to the consoles was the key to their victory. Capcom, obviously, is betting on the former.

    • How did they screw it up? Just because it’s on a portable doesn’t mean it’ll be a bad game

I believe the point he is trying to make is that its on a new (and a bit pricey) console that no one owns yet. Also there are those out there who just prefer games on a big screen.

  • Valkyria Chronicles 2/3 all over again.

  • I’ll wait for the info from NYCC before making any 3DS commitments. But if the game is what people are hopping it is I might just make my first system preorder the 3DS. and for anyone complaining and saying it’s unexpected that it’s for a handheld: Megaman been a handheld property for like the last 8 or more years.

While I am glad to see this finally announced the platform is less then appealing to me. I don’t know enough about 3DS to say if I want one or not and with so many DS and PSP games in my backlog and more on the way I just don’t know if I want another portable console yet.

  • There’s very little chance I’m getting a 3DS right away, but I’ll be curious to see how this comes out.

I wonder if this will give any other franchises that stalled out at game #2 a fighting chance- if you have the opportunity to name your sequel “(Moderately Popular Game) 3D,” somebody might bite. (Yes, I really am suggesting this was part of the decision-making process that resulted in Mega Man Legends 3 being made.)

Megaman Legends 3? T3B? I am torn for these revivals xD I wish I’d have 400 USD by the time ML3 comes out :)
