Gaia, Cozy Okada’s Studio, Is… Gone?

By Spencer . October 6, 2010 . 2:16pm

Gaia, Cozy Okadas Studio, Is... Gone?Something strange is going on with Gaia, the studio Kouji "Cozy" Okada formed after leaving Atlus.

Nintendo signed Gaia to create Cosmic Walker, which appeared in a reel of Wii games back in 2008. Cosmic Walker showed up as an in-development title in Nintendo’s financial statements until late last year where it vanished.

Now Gaia’s website is gone. All that remains is a message that apologizes that for the site’s closure.

Gaia’s last title was Sword & Poker 2 for the iPhone. Monster Kingdom: Jewel Summoner, which was published by Atlus domestically, was Gaia’s only retail game in North America.

Uhhh isn’t it Monster Kingdom: Jewel Summoner not Monster Hunter

    • keyboy7

      yes. who said it wasn’t?

also I’m actually very spooked by this. its not even like the website is down, it’s just…gone.

      so creepy > _<

Maybe it’s a new project… involving psychological dickery.

        • keyboy7

haha now THATS a business model :P next press release reads:

          dear loyal consumers,
ohhhhh so you guys DIDN’T like it when we fell off the face of the earth? well thats what you get, assholes :). maybe when you learn to buy our f***ing games, we wont have to disappear on you, k? good.

  • Zeik56

Maybe this means he’ll go back to Atlus. <_<

    • DDanny

go back to Atlus and megaten puhleeeease

    • Yusaku_Matsuda70s

Didn’t he work on the mainline SMT games?

      • Zeik56

        He did, yes.

      • DDanny

He did work on the main megaten games, I think SMT1,2,if… and NINE.
Maybe the fact he left before Nocturne is one of the reasons that game is so different from classic megaten.

        • Zeik56

I thought he left after Nocturne? (I’m always seeing people try to use that as an argument as to why every game after Nocturne sucks. >_>)

          • cj_iwakura

He also worked on Persona 2: both of them. He’s done all the best games in the series, shy of DDS.

Ah, nuts. Cosmic Walker, despite the complete lack of info on it, was something I was keen to see a great deal more of but, alas, perhaps it is not to be.

  • Yusaku_Matsuda70s

Something about this mysterious vanishing, along with the type of game they were working on, strikes me with a goose-bump-inducing ghost story vibe. Or I’m just scaring myself.

Monster Kingdom: Jewel Summoner, was and is an excellent game. I thought I was one of the few beings who had bought it on day 1, I loved it to death and had an awesome voice acting cast, truly one of Atlus’s best. I wish the series had actually continued.

      1) I agree on that Monster Kingdom comment, but yeah we probably are two of a very small group of people who bought it day 1 and like it a lot. Loved the art style and the audio, and while the game was clearly a little derivative of Pokemon + SMT, you could certainly do worse than borrowing elements of those two.

      2) I also love Folklore, and I’m still a little bitter that Coded Soul was never released in English.

      3) GAIA MADE SWORD AND POKER?? I never knew that, but S&P has been one of my favorite iPod games for a long time, and one of the few I have even bothered to play. Probably my second most played iPod game behind only Espgaluda II. Can’t believe I didn’t get the connection, and I didn’t know it got a sequel until today. I am downloading S&P2 from iTunes as I type this.

That sucks, monster kingdom was a good game

    • kupomogli

I’ve never been able to find out. Probably the most expensive PSP game. Hopefully there’s a rerelease.I could always download it, but not really into that sort of thing.

Maybe Atlus will release it later on the psn, one of the thing i liked about this game is that you can choose, like from 4 people (if i remember correctly) 2 of them to become your partners, and i think different pairs makes a lot new dialogues.

that’s really bad i was waiting for gaia’s next game ….
