Here’s A Whole Bunch Of Off-screen Nintendo 3DS Game Footage

By Ishaan . October 27, 2010 . 10:29am

Finding the lack of 3DS game footage a little disconcerting? Don’t worry, here’s a whole bunch of it! It isn’t very clear, nor is it direct-feed footage — but it’s better than nothing.

Resident Evil: Revelations

The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time 3D

Samurai Warriors Chronicle

Steel Diver

Nintendogs + Cats

Ridge Racer 3D

    lol @ funk you shirt.

For Ocarina of Time 3DS: Its nice to see action on the bottom scree. She really had the 3D cranked all the way up, lol. Gameplay did not look all that compelling though. They should introduce new and or alternate styles of play and gameplay mechanisms to make it more appealing to people who missed out on the game on the N64 since this is a new generation of gamers.

    • Exkaiser

I’m not even a fan of Ocarina and I feel its gameplay holds up just fine.

      You’re crazy, man.

        don’t bother

          lol

        • Exkaiser

I- I feel compelled to bother!

you are talking about the best game made so far, a game that can survive years of new gaming style….. the gamplay style has been the same all zeldas and real time action games have. They cant get the feeling and perfect story Ocarina of time gives though

Nintendo 3DS: You have to see it to see it…otherwise the 3D effects make the screen look wonky XD

  • malek86

Weirdly enough, I’m not interested in any of those games.

    • puchinri

You didn’t actually watch any of the videos to them, right?
(I was somehow unintentionally convinced to watch the Nintendogs one, although I have no interest in the game.)

      • http://tristsantithesis.tumblr.com/ Tsunayoshi Sawada

You make it seem like these are the most utterly engrossing, enthralling, compelling games that could have been shown.

        • puchinri

And how did I do that, exactly?
I was more or less saying that I wasn’t really interested and yet still watched the videos. What did I say about any of them that was engrossing, enthralling or compelling?
(Those weren’t even the games I wanted to see and I only watched two vids. =A= )

      • malek86

I have this weird habit that I don’t watch a video if I’m not already somewhat interested in the game in question. Which makes it difficult to me to be interested in many games, I’ll admit. On a side note, I could argue that I’ve already played OoT, and that RE/SW/Nintendogs never interested me in the slightest anyway. I could have been mildly interested in Ridge racer, but the 3D effect in a racing game would make me puke on the screen, and the images were really bad anyway.

        • puchinri

Ah, I’m usually the same. And that’s a good point.

I never finished OoT, and while I got fairly far again in the GC collector’s ver., I figured a new, portable version would be better to finish on (but maybe it’s just cheaper and better to finish on the GC). And I honestly don’t know how one, lone comment made me watch the Nintendogs video. The game feels terribly boring in a way, but it did look cute.

I had never considered the 3D and how it would mix with a racing game, and now I’m thinking really hard about that (I guess I wouldn’t want F-Zero on 3DS, even if I don’t plan on using the 3D much if at all). I’m going to remember that~.

        • Joanna

I wasn’t much interested in most of these titles either (Steel Diver & Resident Evil look interesting and OoT portable would be nice), but I actually watched them just to see how they play and the first thing noted in the Ridge Racer video is that the 3D effects can be turned off :)

  • Yui

Watching Ocarina of Time in action, even with the messed-up 3D effect, makes me happy. =D

  • http://shinleejin.deviantart.com/ ShinRekka

The wait is so freakin’ long…….

It was hilarious that she was blown away by crawling through a tree trunk in the OoT demo……I mean if something that boring gets a reaction like “sugoisugoisugoisugoi”, the 3D on 3DS must be really amazing.

    • gatotsu911

Either that or, you know, Japanese TV hostesses are easily impressed. That’s a distinct possibility too.

      • http://shinleejin.deviantart.com/ ShinRekka

Haha most likely! Considering what many positive impressions people had with it first hand, I’d say it’s probably the “wow it’s actually 3D on a handheld!” along with that. Can’t wait to see it in person myself! :D

    • Apollokids

I don’t think she gets paid if she badmouths the 3ds.
Didn’t they “sugoisugoisugoisugoi” the WII also. I’m not saying its bad….

      • http://shinleejin.deviantart.com/ ShinRekka

The Wii when it wasn’t released yet was pretty neat when people played it for the first time though right? I think it’s more of a reaction to trying something new most likely.

    • Aoshi00

The Steel Diver video was funny, the Nintendo girl knew her stuffs :),Funk you shirt guy: “Motion Center!”Nintendo girl: “Motion Sensor…”Well, I guess he was nervous being surrounded by booth babes :)

    • puchinri

Maybe it was the way the depth of it was conveyed when crawling through the tree trunk?
Then again, I would probably be saying sugoi the whole way through, to the point I wouldn’t even get in a worthwhile comment aside from ‘sugoi!’.

  • http://thrust-the-sky.deviantart.com/ WildArms

    darn no animal crossing?!

  • Code

I don’t know it’s looking good to me >w<' Sure off-screen footage is a bit blurry, but you can still tell the visuals are going to be pretty sharp, especially from the Resident Evil footage. My only two concerns about 3DS is the d-pad placement which may make it hard yo actually use as a d-pad, although on the plus side it may cause developers to use it a set of 4 alternative buttons, or for quick camera adjustments.

The other concern is I've noticed the bottom screen is smaller, but also appears it doesn't share the top screen's graphic prowess, some of my favorite DS games used touch/bottom screen as there main screen, so I'm hoping this isn't the case.

    • http://tristsantithesis.tumblr.com/ Tsunayoshi Sawada

The bottom screen is smaller, the tech specs showed that it is smaller than the ds lite bottom screen (but bigger than the original ds screen)*

      • Yusaku_Matsuda70s

It’s SMALLER than the DS-Lite bottom screen? Aw man… But the real question is, is it higher resolution? Because that’s what really matters.

    • Yusaku_Matsuda70s

Agreed. There were a number of games also treated the 2 screens as one continuous picture, or the bottom as an extension of the top and vice versa. At the very least I hope the bottom screen looks as good as the top screen with the 3D off.

But 2 things are for certain: 1) there will be less games that treat both screens equally than before, and 2) when the 3D is on (only one screen), games with intense dual-screen action will be disorienting, and thus unlikely/ rare.

      • Code

Yeah that is true for got about seeing a few split screen shots, although not entirely sure I’m keen on them sharing the split view like the DS did, since it’s going to end up more of a “T” shaped view now, lol. I’m just curious why they didn’t consider a wide screen/3D for the bottom screen too. But having the two different screens will definitely impact how developers treat the bottom screen in contrast to the top compared to the DS.

        • Joanna

I’m not 100% sure about this….but I’m thinking it had something to do with making a 3D touch screen. It might have been too costly or the 3D wouldn’t come out as clear. I swear there was an interview or something stating the latter to be the case, but I can’t recall where.

  • http://innerchildgamer.com Doc@ICG

It was nice to hear the guy comment about how well the slide pad is used for RE:Revelations. Had some worries about it.

Also, lol @ Nintendogs + Cats. “It’s in 3D, so it’s 3 times the cuteness!”

    • Aoshi00

“I’m more of a dog person but the cat is cute too”. The girls didn’t seem to care what he said lol..

  • SolidusSnake

Needs more Kid Icarus! I don’t care if the 3DS costs $5000 plus my soul, I wanna play that game.

  • http://myfigurecollection.net/collection/ashgail Ashgail

Oooooh so the screen on the top is 3d. I was thinking it was the bottom screen all along x_x

  • http://www.pixiv.net/member.php?id=2704923 Buntar0

I think I’ll put Steel Diver on my watchlist. Other than that and the Musou game, which uses existing maps so far :/ , it’s games I don’t care about (anymore).

  • MisterNiwa

Meh, these people are annoying as funk.

  • Aoshi00

The booth babes are cute, and they actually know what they’re talking about, gotta love the Jpn girls’ reaction when they’re playing games.

So who’s the guy and the chick, is he like a celebrity or comedian? I think I’m more interested in Nintendogs + Cats, the kittens are cute.

  • puchinri

    So the Animal Crossing is where now…? ;u;
We don’t even get any news or updates about it anymore, do we?

    No Kid Icarus either.

On the otherhand, I am looking forward to OoT even more now, and slowly becoming interesting in Nintendogs.

  • NeoTechni

Its not fair that these jackasses get to play it before us.

  • Joanna

I never tried Biohazard/ Resident Evil, but I liked what I saw on the 3DS. Now I’m strangely compelled to give this series a try some time.
