Who Wants To "Watch" 999: 9 Hours, 9 Persons, 9 Doors Cosplay

By Spencer . October 27, 2010 . 9:39pm

We’ve seen Japanese publishers advertise their games with cosplay dozens of times. North American publishers, not so much. So, I was a little surprised to see Aksys promote 999: 9 Hours, 9 Persons, 9 Doors with someone dressed up like Lotus (aka #8).

The outfit isn’t for sale, but the watch is. Sort of. It’s a pre-order bonus if you reserve 999: 9 Hours, 9 Persons, 9 Days at Gamestop.

  • Oh snap! Lotus in the house sporting the 999 watch :3

  • EvilAkito

That watch is the whole reason I order from Gamestop instead of Amazon. It looks ridiculous, but I’ll probably wear it anyway.

  • Nice cosplay!

And artwork by Kinu Nishimura is always <3 <3 <3. Still my fav artist everrrrrrrrrr!!!!

    • Yusaku_Matsuda70s

I can recognize that art style from Capcom vs SNK anywhere. That was the first time I was exposed to his work, and despite being a major SNK fan, I found that I preferred his energetic forms and and loose lines over the highly controlled models of Shinkiro. Been a fan ever since.

      • Yeah, Kinu’s style has been very consistent yet evolving even from the old SF2 days. Been a huge fan since I first laid eyes on Kinu’s work ever since I was a kid! XD

        Oh and Kinu’s a woman btw. ;)

        • Aoshi00

cool, didn’t know Kinu’s a woman, just like I didn’t know FMA’s artist (Arakawa Hiromu) was a woman for a while..

        • Yusaku_Matsuda70s

Woah Kinu is a woman!? Exxxtra <3<3 x100.

  • Yusaku_Matsuda70s

It’s impossible for people to have anime proportions… >_<'

What make for "good cosplay" in your opinion (anyone)? How important is an accurate outfit vs a liberally-interpreted but well-designed one? What about cosplayer physical resemblance? Is it automatically admirable if the female cosplayer is pretty disregarding actual resemblance? Is being in character a major deal? Or is knowing how to pose for pictures more important?

    • Lol. That first sentence/paragraph along with your name and avvie just reminded me of One Piece.

    • Aoshi00

More.. Boobies…? lol I think actual resemblance is important. This cosplayer is OK, I think they could find someone looking more like the char. Don’t care much for the watch from GS though..

    • Joanna

I think the costume is the key. After all, that’s why they do it. I don’t mind if a few liberties are taken as long as the costume still looks good and I can recognize it. Resemblance is nice, but I don’t require it. For professional cosplays, I think they should aim for resemblance since you’re paying the cosplayer. For the above, I think the resemblance is pretty strong, if you exclude the proportions, so I think Aksys did a good job. :)

I’m upset that Gamestop Canada doesn’t get the watch (or at least, say anything about it on the product page). I remember recently, I somehow stumbled onto the 999 product page on Gamestop.com and I thought Gamestop.ca finally got the watches. Strange, considering I can’t think of how I managed to get onto the US page that time.

  • Hours

I want this game like crazy.

  • masuto

Wow, very sexy Lotus there. I guess all potential 999 cosplayers gotta pre-order for the watch now otherwise they’d be missing the most important cosplay piece.

  • RupanIII

Do you come with the game?

    *giggle* Oh, you!

  • I’d tap that.

  • Joanna

Can’t wait for this game. I have it preordered already. The watch is pretty cool, but I don’t want to pay 10-ish shipping from the states (gotta use that $$$ for Golden Sun: Dark Dawn), so I just got the regular game from Amazon.ca.
