While Phoenix makes his return in Professor Layton vs. Ace Attorney, Capcom (sans Level 5) are also publishing Ace Attorney Investigations 2, which reunites Edgeworth, Gumshoe and Kay for another adventure together.

Investigations 2 is being prepared for February 3rd, 2011 release in Japan, and will come in three variants, excluding the standard edition for 5,040 yen that contains just the game:

Collector’s Pack:

The Ace Attorney Investigations 2 Collector’s Pack comes with the game, an 11-track soundtrack CD containing orchestrated music by series composer, Noriyuki Iwadare, and a special promo DVD, which contains footage of the game shown off at the Tokyo Game Show.

Additionally, the Collector’s Package will also include a booklet with an original manga penned by character designer, Tatsuro Iwamoto. It’ll set you back 6,090 yen.

Extended Edition:

The Extended Edition of the game includes the game itself, and a 4-inch-tall (approx.) figure of Miles Edgeworth. Production of the figure was supervised by Capcom staff to ensure accuracy. This edition comes in at 7,140 yen.

Limited Edition:

And finally, the Limited Edition includes all of the above, and is the most expensive at 8,000 yen.

I want that Miles Edgeworth figure.

  • The soundtrack is the weakest offering because it is naught but eleven tracks. The dvd is potentially uninteresting as well, however the pack shines with the inclusion of the manga. The figurine looks plenty awesome. If I was abreast of the series and was in JPN, I would surely pick up the highest edition.

  • This better become a worldwide deal…I want that soundtrack and possibly the figurine too.

I have a feeling there isn’t the slightest chance these will come to any other region. Other regions just don’t have the same love for portable games that Japan does

I’m usually a pessimist as well, but we have gotten all the other Ace Attorney games so I don’t see why this one wouldn’t make it over. Sure 3DS is right around the corner, but Capcom seems to be supporting DS pretty well into next year (we are getting Okamiden in March, during the 3DS’s release).

      • Aara_Malik_Davoodi

No, no, I haven’t a doubt that we’ll get the game. I just don’t think we’ll get the special editions

        • Joanna

My mistake and sadly I agree with you on that. :(

  • Neo_Yor

If I have to guess, they’ll make it available in the us ONLY through the Capcom Store… And I don’t live in the us so… =/

    • Testsubject909

If Atlus would’ve brought it over… There would’ve been a chance that these limited edition items would’ve been available for us. Just a chance mind you.

With Capcom, I can’t tell… I doubt we’ll have the same treatment as in Japan. But I think we’re safe for at least the soundtrack. I think… Well, it’s the most likely item to be given to a limited edition or a pre-order. Artbooks are typically popular as well.

      • Well, i dont really mind, i love how CAPCOM localize these games >8D

      • Joanna

I love OSTs, so I would be happy if we just got it. But, I would be willing to pay extra for that Edgeworth figure, like in Japan. It looks nice~

  • EvilAkito

That Edgeworth figure is the most badass thing I’ve ever seen. I want it badly!

  • Aoshi00

I liked the first game okay (it was good, not great, dragged down by the long winded ending), mainly due to nostalgia since Apollo kicked out everyone, so it was nice to see everyone again. I actually got the Blue Badger DSi for like $200, very good deal at the time.. but this LE is really enticing.. the figure looks very detailed and well made, the judge on the cover looks so haught :) wonder if she’s funny too, probably not, miss the old timer.

  • Souji Tendou

Dear Capcom, where is my Phoenix Wright 4….?

    • Aoshi00

You mean 5? Unless you don’t count Apollo. I wouldn’t mind them going back to Phoenix in 5 either, I like Trucy, but not so much Apollo. I really wish they would put the next Gyakuten Saiban game on the Wii w/ voice overs or something just to shake things up. If not, I don’t mind Edgeworth either, I still like him better than Apollo.. since you play in first person perspective during the investigation parts, there were many times I thought I was a “lamer Phoenix” and totally forgot about Apollo lol..

      • Souji Tendou

Apollo what? Is that some kind of new food in Phoenix Wright…? O_o*Sarcasm*Yea, I didn’t count Apollo. I don’t like Apollo, and it would be a long story if I have to write ’em all (the reason why I don’t like it). I just wish they ret-con Apollo and then makes a true Phoenix Wright 4.

        • Joanna

I guess I’m one of the rare specimens that actually wants the Apollo story to continue. I prefer Phoenix, but I don’t really have problems with Apollo. And Trucy is just awesome as were most of the cases. I really enjoyed them…I think I like 3 the most, but 2 and 4 were also really good. Plus, they left too much unresolved for there not to be another game with Apollo.

And…wait for it…ALL the versions of this game will be discounted to under 3000 yen within two weeks of release. The original Gyakuten Kenji saw one of the quickest price drops I’ve ever seen in Japan. Stores had it for the retail price on day one, and before week 2 had even hit it was reduced (in some stores, by half).

I sometimes feel sorry for you importers because you’re always stuck paying top dollar for these games even when they can be had for much, much less.

    • Aoshi00

Well, I see Amazon Jpn has a lot of great discount and free shipping, alas we don’t live in Jpn and Amazon doesn’t ship games outside Jpn, even if they do they charge like at least 2000 yen EMS for the first item which cancels out whatever discount they have… I’m not sure if they would sell the LE w/ the figure for 3000 yen though.. Well for the first Gyakuten Kenji, YesAsia did have it on sale later for around $40 (or $30 I don’t remember), but that is if you don’t mind getting it months later. The first game was okay, good, not great. I guess I’d check out AmiAmi to see if they have a good deal, like DDP DOJ, because for 8000 yen other sites would jack up the price.

      • Tokyo Guy

Oh, I’m referring to physical stores in Japan. Like Sofmap for example. They slash prices almost immediately and tend to be far less than even Amazon Japan. Both Gyakuten Kenji and the Zelda Spirit Tracks were reduced to less than half in near record time.

        • Aoshi00

I know… but even Amazon Jpn has some great deals too even on release day, maybe the price slash not as deep, but still cheaper (right now it’s 4284 yen instead of 5040 yen). But we can’t take advantage of that, unless you’re a good sport and open a business there helping us import :)

I mean here Kmart’s been having lots of good deals too, shortly after new games are released, like Castlevania LoS, Enslaved were just $40 a while ago, and Vanquish was for $35. Since the economy is not good in general, there’s deals thruout the year, also they’re pushing the sales earlier and earlier leading up to Black Friday.

          • Tokyo Guy

Ah, but the entire import business has been hurting because of the currency problem. You know, when I first came to Japan in 2003 the dollar was worth around 124 yen or so. Now it’s 80yen. It’s just plain absurd. But anyway, if the LE set is 8000 yen then that’s $100 right there, and before the markup from whichever import store you use, and before shipping. I could easily see the LE set going for $150 or more.

I’m actually just angry about this game series in general because I got the LE set of the first Gyakuten Kenji for whatever and then found that it was basically worthless. I tried to sell it to one of the used game stores and they offered like 1000yen. These days 3rd party games depreciate really quickly.

          • Aoshi00

Hey, I hear you, $1 to 120 yen seems like ancient history now, definitely a bad time now for us gamers who import, not to mention 8000-9000 yen is the price for most 360/PS3 games. I guess it’s the same thing w/ gamers in Europe, they can’t take advantage of the good deals in kmart, Best Buy, or Amazon either.

I feel the same as you about the first game (and FF13 too lol), thought it was a bit disappointing, but still liked it for the nostalgia factor because we only saw Phoenix as a bum in 4. I actually got the DSi bundle for $210 on ebay, a very good price at that time compared to $350-400 range it was going for, so I’m thankful at least I didn’t pay that. I figured the game for $50, the LE Blue Badger DSi for $160, not so bad, well, not until they announced the XL anyway, which I also got suckered in now by the red Mario XL (I traded in Mario kart for $20 to Amazon and applied it right back to the order, so it’s like cheaper than the regular XL).

Well, can’t be helped, that’s the price to pay to import.. if you help me get Catherine, Dream Club Zero, Last Story from local stores or something that would be cool :) Still, I’m shopping around, btwn Play-Asia YesAsia, NCSX, or AmiAmi just to save a couple of dollars and shipping here and there, and PlayAsia should have some Christmas coupons soon..
