Marvelous In The Money, Thanks To Fate/Extra And Harvest Moon

By Spencer . November 9, 2010 . 12:41pm

While sales were down 12.9% from the preceding year, Marvelous is in the green with a 130 million yen ($1.7 million) profit for the first half of fiscal year 2010. It’s a modest sum, but a huge improvement compared to last year where Marvelous booked a 287 million ($3.21 million*) segment loss for their digital content business.

Marvelous published ten titles in Japan including Muramasa: The Demon Blade, Arc Rise Fantasia, Half-Minute Hero, and Little King’s Story during the same period in 2009. This year, Marvelous released only five boxed games for Japan: No More Heroes: Heroes’ Paradise, Ikki Tousen: Xross Impact, Hitman Reborn! DS Fate of Heat III, Harvest Moon: Twins’ Village, and Fate/Extra.

Harvest Moon: Twin’s Village sales sprouted past 160,000 units. Fate/Extra, a RPG based on the Fate Stay/Night series developed by Imageepoch, was another hot seller with more than 100,000 units sold. So far, neither Marvelous hit has been announced for North America.

* Editor’s note: This figure was calculated based on a 2009 yen to dollar exchange rate.

I guess their stream lining efforts worked.

  • At least next year we here in America are getting No More Heroes: Paradise. They didnt have any comments about their plan for the future?

Anyway…I wish a Hitman Reborn! game would come out here!!! Heh, could be awesome to play as Tsuna, and interact with the other guardians.

    • There’s a giant interview on the site with comments about their plans for the future…it basically boils down to concentrating on established franchises and 3DS.

  • malek86

Good for them. I wonder how well NMH did.

By the way, was Deadly Premonition a 2010 release?

    • Yes, but it wouldn’t count during this fiscal year since it was released in March 2010. Marvelous’ FY goes from April to March of the following calendar year.

Damn, for a second I thought this was about localizing Fate/Extra…then my reading skills kicked in…

    • ChaosPaladinFayt

sometimes, we wish we didnt have reading skills. what we dont kno cant hurt us xD

  • This is great news, theyve been doing nothing but good games

  • ChaosPaladinFayt

Good thing the Fate game was a billion times more awesomer than the movie…..kuz the movie sucked…..badly. IMO

    • MemeticRichard

I should’ve known lol. I *knew* the movie would be terrible, yet for some reason, I still had my hopes up.

I dunno why? Maybe cause Archer was always my favorite, and wanted him in all his animated spotlight glory? Or maybe because I always preferred Gilgamesh’s civilian outfit?

All I know is is that I was a frakking idiot for getting my hopes up over the dumbest reasons. The movie wasn’t terrible *in your opinion.* It was terrible in *all respects.*

      • ChaosPaladinFayt

well some ppl may have enjoyed it, i kno i wasnt one of them lol

  • Jaxx-Leviathan

Yosh, good sales for F/E. Now bring it to me!

  • TyeTheCzar

I’m still annoyed at how they sexed up Saber’s outfit. The Type-Moon-designed armor for Saber was perfectly fine. What excuse did the artist have, anyway?

    • ChaosPaladinFayt

fanservice man, fan service. plus this saber has a totally different personality than the original saber, so its only fair that her outfit reflects her personality change. it looks fine, sheesh lol

      • Too much hype for Saber, she is not a very good character so for me this changes are for good, the bad thing is that they use the same face for a diferent heroic spirit even for the same clase but the red Saber is funny and arrogant.

In any case Caster is a must play.

    • This Saber is a different heroic spirit than the Saber from F/SN. Reason enough.

  • neocatzon

yay, Marvelous! Now share a bit of your happiness by localizing Extra (no Ignition please)

    • Yes please! I imported the CE but I need to play it in English! Please Aksys, Xseed, anyone!

      • vadde939

Not anyone. Ignition had better keep their filthy hands off it.

        • Dude I’m desperate I want it in English no matter what! I have never played an Ignition game before tough..

          • vadde939

Ignition steal games from competent localisers like XSEED and ruin them with some of the most abysmal localisations in gaming history. You don’t want to play their games.

  • MemeticRichard

Fate/Extra was terrible. They can happily keep in Japan. Now, Fate/Unlimited Codes? *That* is a Fate game done right.

    • I vehemently agree with the final sentence, truly a magnificent gaming experience!

  • Joanna

Good for them. Hope they continue to make a profit. :)
