Phantom Breaker Bursts On To Xbox 360 With Characters Designed By Hiro Suzuhira

imageYou may remember 5pb announcing Phantom Breaker, a fighting game with character art from visual novel artist Hiro Suzuhira.

Famitsu blew the lid off Phantom Breaker with a two page spread in this week’s issue. The article notes the game is a 2D fighting game and an Xbox 360 exclusive.

Phantom Breaker is designed with simple controls and a deep battle system. Instead of having special attack commands, Phantom Breaker maps special attacks to a single button. Famitsu also mentions a tension gauge and burst gauge, but those parts of the scan are too blurry to read.

The game is slated for release in 2011.

Looks Melty Blood-ish. 5pb is not really famous for quality. Well we will see.

  • doubletaco

I can’t help but see this doomed to failure from the outset: A single-platform fighting game, featuring dumbing down of core fighting game mechanics and therefore having a high chance of isolating the hardcore market, which is really a driving force behind fighting game longevity.

At least it can’t possibly be any worse than that eroge fighter from earlier this year.

  • Yusaku_Matsuda70s

New 2D fighter! *Drool* Not for a system I own! *sadface*

I’m just dying for 2D fighters (true 2D, not 3D on a 2D plane) but there are so few of them coming out (because drawing sprites take forever). I think I heard the Melty Blood guys were working on a brand new game but I don’t know anything about it.

The whole thing about mapping special moves to single buttons, is getting woo widespread if you ask me.

It’s not even a good idea to do it on the 360, where most players will probably be the hardcore kind.

Oh well, maybe if it bombs, we’ll see a PS3 port in the future.

You mean, if it bombs, we’ll see a PSP port in the future.

5pb seems to have made their business model of 360>PSP and not touching the PS3 with a 10-foot pole.

  • ShinRekka

Wonder how it plays….from it’s looks, I’m guessing similar to Melty Blood/Blazblue. If it’s any good, hopefully it’ll release overseas…..I always love building up my fighting game collection.

    • FHOIW

If it’s like Melty Blood, I’ll buy it in a sec.

  • Ed Powell

Here’s to hoping that the dumbed down controls are optional (ala in BlazBlue) and that there’s a traditional 2d fighter deep down there. If so, I’ll definitely be eager to (hopefully, assuming a localization) grab this one for my 360. Can never have too many fighters!

  • Souji Tendou

Why X360? Console got the worst Controller.

Anyway, I really love Suzuhira-san’s artworks. Shuffle’s her best works, imho.

    • Lance Dos Santos Inimgba

The controller argument is completely irrelevant if you have a fight stick, which I do. Plus, I think the PS3 controller isn’t better than the 360 controller when it comes to fighting games. But that’s probably because I own an X360

  • superdry

Cool. Its weird, but nice, to see 5pb branching out of a little a more.

I hope this turns to be good unlike Twinkle Queen.

  • BadenBadenPrinny

Specials to a single button……..wat. Was there weed in my food. I sincerely hope that’s optional

  • Charles Lupula

Is there any aspect of this, at all, that even remotely sounds like a good idea?

  • neocatzon

5pb.. and fighting game? Are they try to challenge Melty Blood or something?
