The Impossible Will Occur In Kingdom Hearts 3D

Kingdom Hearts Re:coded has a secret ending that ties into Kingdom Hearts 3D. You can check that out here (spoilers, naturally). While Kingdom Hearts 3D isn’t “Kingdom Hearts 3,” the story will be on par with a mainline Kingdom Hearts game.

These comments come from Tetsuya Nomura, who recently spoke with Nintendo Power magazine about both Re:coded and Kingdom Hearts 3D. According to Nomura, the development team is still deciding upon which worlds to include in Kingdom Hearts 3D.

Nomura adds that there “may be a major overhaul in the selection of Disney worlds,” possibly referring to the kind of worlds chosen for the game. He goes on to reiterate what he has stated before — that nearly every Disney locale in Kingdom Hearts 3D will be entirely new.

At this past year’s E3, Square Enix showed off a Kingdom Hearts 3D trailer that depicted the sky raining Soras. Nomura clarified that this was done to communicate the idea that the impossible would occur in Kingdom Hearts 3D. (Impossible even by Kingdom Hearts standards? Oh dear.)

Kingdom Hearts 3D is being developed by the Square Enix team in Osaka that worked on Kingdom Hearts: Birth by Sleep. Expect more details from Square Enix’s 1st Production Department conference on January 18th.

  • Meh, im gonna buy it just because ive been following the series so far… but i wont get Re:Coded, ill just check the secret ending in youtube later

    • You don’t really have to get it. There’s a DS emulator that works perfectly. Unless it’s absolutely vital for you to be able to play multiplayer in a game that isn’t a multiplayer game, then I suggest you just emulate it. :P

        • I don’t really understand what you’re referring to with that facepalm. I suggested an alternative method in which he could play re:coded because stated that he didn’t want to buy it. If he stated that he didn’t want to play it then I wouldn’t have bothered. Would you care to elaborate?

          • We don’t encourage people to pirate stuff on here. :)

          • Ah, I see. I’ll keep that in mind and respect it in the future. :]

          • After all, real gamers support the industry by spending their hard earned money. :D

      • Anyhow im not getting it because is basically the same story as KH1 -.-, i dont care about the gameplay/multiplayer thing at this point that much

        • The story wont be like Kingdom Hearts 1, the fact that it has all new Disney worlds is a clear sign of that. It probably wont even be close to the originals story.

          • PersonaBull

He was saying Re:Coded was like KH1, not KH3D. Re:Coded has all repeated worlds, actually.

But the story is different, I suppose. I don’t know if I’ll be snagging that one myself, honestly. I spoiled myself with the “secret talk” and now I don’t feel like there’s much else to the game otherwise. $35 is a little high of price for me for that kind of a feeling towards the game.

          • Yeah, is just a new way to remake kingdom hearts 1 to get more people (and milk old people). In the end is basically the same.

It wouldnt surprise me if we see KH2 “re:coded” soon as well

          • Re:Coded is actually the current KH game I feel most warmly too, right now. I didn’t really get on with BbS.

Re:Coded feels like a return to simpler times without being entirely nostalgic in that it has a framework of events following the sequel. The additional trading of information between systems in the Dissidia/DQIX fashion also makes the game that much more appealing in my book.

I haven’t read any spoilers and don’t intend to but I’m hoping for Re:Coded to deliver on nostalgia in terms of the original KH storyline and other genres (“Space Harrier” third person shooting, RPG turn-based battles).

3DS by contrast seems like a very different kettle of fish.

          • PersonaBull

Having played Re:Coded a bit, I will say I did greatly underestimate it. There is a lot more to that game than I gave it credit for, and in my eyes it’s just as much an important game as Chain of Memories was. I’m quite glad to be proved wrong <3.

        • Whoever told you the story is the same as KH1 is wrong. Only the worlds are. The story and the gameplay are different in Re:coded.

          • Yeah as personaBull said, im talking about KH RE:coded the story is like a “different way” to recap KH1, basically, is the same

  • shy_mel

    The story will move forward?

    • I would imagine it will. It’s just a matter of adding a number at the end, if you ask me. Birth by Sleep was every bit a mainline game and was treated as such.

The same team is working on this one. It’s also the latest chronologically and it has entirely new worlds, so for all means and purposes, it is “3” — they just aren’t calling it that.

Oh.. I am new to the franchise and BBS was my first game. I found it very enjoyable for a PSP game. I hope this one would be good as well.

        • I guess BBS was a great place to start. I started with Chain of Memories (which was based on cards) so and was basically an interlude, so hm yeah.

BBS was too hard for me so I shelved it for awhile. Somehow my younger brother beat it fast (Like 46 hours for all the characters on hard difficulty X_x), I just dont get it!

          • Cause you’re weak man. Nothing else to it.

          • Why don’t you try facing Unknown, easiest boss in the game?

          • Level up.
            Command board is your friend.
            Don’t think. Feel.

I think I’ve said this stuff to someone before… Or was it to all different people…?

  • Nomura also said Lightning wouldn’t be in Dissidia 2. OH WAIT SHE IS.

  • So much bait…that kingdom hearts fans will bite.

Anyway, Im still continually annoyed that we are not getting KH3 and yet another game with a story “on par with a mainline game.” At least throw out a subtitle for the game, or something dude. Heh, call if Kingdom Hearts 3 and then say that a Kingdom Hearts 4 will be planned.

  • joesz

I’m not going to say anything…I’ll just wait.

  • NoElixirs

I’m interested in seeing what this game will bring to the table, but buying another handheld would be highly annoying. Also, he certainly has it in him to exaggerate at times.

  • GamerKT

DO PIXAR WORLDS, DAMMIT! The Incredibles and Toy Story, please.

  • neon6

Will there be any new enemy types that aren’t just palette swaps from previous games?

  • Wait, there was a TRAILER for KH3d? Was this one of those stupid Closed Trailer deals?!?!

  • nifty

  • PrinceHeir

oh well im still waiting for Kingdom Hearts 3(which is Versus XIII :D)

  • neocatzon

something that’s impossible in KH is possible in real world… or something like that?

  • Guest

To add to the tease, Nomura ended the interview by saying, “To all Kingdom Hearts fans, I thank you. You’ve got a friend in me,” followed by a wink.

    • 4shiki

      >You’ve got a friend in me
      Does that mean…Toy Story?!

      • Well, there were Toy Story Character Models found in either KH2 or BBS (I forget) so they WERE working on it.

        • Buzz and Woody were supposed to be new summons in KHIIFM.

  • How about keeping the main games on the consoles, SE? Jesus Christ.

  • The impossibe? You mean Kingdom Hearts 3 being developed

    OHHOHOHOHOHOHOH!….Yeah I’ll stop now ¬_¬

Well, I’ll be getting Kingdom Hearts Re:coded anyway. But since I’m too much of a wuss to complete the game on Proud mode or I can’t be bothered to get 100 per cent completion, I’ll check out the secret ending trailer when i’ve completed the game on Normal.

  • Tokyo Guy

You know for me, the “impossible” will be making me find a reason to even care about this series anymore…

  • I am SO SICK of the KH team adding Secret Ending after Secret Ending in these ^&5#64##$ GAMES!!! DX

They know delusional KH fans will buy it and they continue to do it! JUST WORK ON KH3 ALREADY OR FINISH FFvXIII and then focus on KH and stop with these spin offs and ‘Final Mixes’ (a.k.a “Let’s suck more money out of the fans! :D”) that further make the story already complicated. By the time KH3 is out, (whenever that is) half the fans will have no clue what is going on. The only one that made sense and was good is BBS. Stop it already.

    • Why work on KH3 when it is as you say, the delusional KH fan will continue to buy these side games, better keep the series going for as long as possible since people are not going to stop buying them…especially since the games come with “secret endings,” and people arent keen on watching them on the youtube. Plus I thought we cant get the third one until FFVersus XIII comes out and FF 15 starts development?

-which is likely, didnt they pour tons of money into the engine for FFXIII? Better use it for all its worth this gen…

      • that’s why they keep making them sucking the money out of fans while they can.

Also, yeah that’s why I said finish FFvXIII and then work on KH3.

The story is so convoluted right now. Each spin off decreases my love for KH. :/

Why do I suddenly fear that this means Nomura is going to pull a Deus Ex Machina to shoehorn something into the story without needing to respect everything that he has built up from the first game. I’ve been dreading this ever since he said that Sora and Riku being children again is *very* important.

I don’t mind these “spin-offs” and I do like Kingdom Hearts, but I hate when a creator shoehorns something into their story. Shows a lack of talent and respect for their audience (like we won’t notice it’s forced).

Ah, whatever. I guess I should withhold judgment until I know more, but these comments are really worrisome. :(
