So, Imageepoch *Is* Working On A Nintendo 3DS Strategy RPG

By Spencer . January 9, 2011 . 3:39pm

imageDespite CEO Ryoei Mikage’s no Nintendo 3DS plans yet comment a few weeks earlier, Luminous Arc makers are developing a Nintendo 3DS game.

It’s a strategy RPG too. No details have been announced about it other than a temporary title, "simulation RPG project." Since the game is going to be published by Imageepoch it probably won’t be related to Luminous Arc since Marvelous Entertainment holds the rights to the series.

The unnamed strategy RPG is slated for a 2012 release in Japan. NIS America has a long standing deal to publish Imageepoch’s games in North America.

  • 2012, well hopefully before Dec 21! Anyway, I should hopefully have a 3DS by then since it is looking to be pretty bleak in terms of RPGs for the system thus far.

“looking to be pretty bleak in terms of RPGs for the system thus far. ”

The damn thing isn’t even out yet!

    • A great genre like rpgs need time to be released xD, is hard to get a good rpg with the release of a console

    • I remember back when the DS was considered pretty bad for RPGs, because they were all subpar to terrible. But then we got the biggest wave of great games and now there’s a lot of really good RPGs.

      Give the 3DS time.

      • When was this? Ive still not found anything beyond Golden Sun Dark Dawn and Final Fantasy Tactics Advance 2: Grimoire of the Rift as great RPGs on the DS and this is year 7 of the Ninty DS.

        • M’iau M’iaut

Infinite Space, My World My Way, Luminous Arc 1 and 2, 2 Shin Megamis, 3 Etrian Odysseys, multiple ports and other things I’ve forgotten rise up to box your ears.

          • Let’s not forget Avalon Code, a few FFs, Dragon Quests, Mario & Luigi Bowser’s Inside Stories, Pokemon games, Valkyrie Profile, Suikoden, Super OG Saga, and The World Ends with you!

          • Well M’iau M’iaut did say “other things I’ve forgotten” Although, The World Ends with You is definitely one that should never be forgotten.

          • M’iau M’iaut

TWEWY was on the DS shelf I was going off of when I did my quick list. Left it off cuz if I had put it on there, I’d have felt honor bound to put all the other RPGesque games that deserve mention. Like Time Hollow, Trace Memory, Hotel Dusk, 999, Magician’s Quest, Rune Factories, Harvest Moons, Trauma Center, Flower Sun Rain and even Theresia or Moon.

Just thought I could make my point without having to name off most of the collection that takes up 4 bloody shelves of amazing DS titles.

A list from a site that you frequently use.

          • Oh wow dude! That list has an RPG from my second favorite movie of 2010…Percy Jackson and the Olympians: The Lightning Thief! Ive so gotta get it!

          • The movie was actually pretty decent, but the game… well… I’ve seen it in action and… it wasn’t even close to being decent.

          • @Tommy Lee
No. Let him get it. Lets see if he’s disappointed or not. Afterall, the whole appeal is the movie itself! Who cares if the game is good or not!

          • M’iau M’iaut

Ya but that list also has Dragon Song, Tao’s Adventure and From the Abyss on there. We don’t need to give him ammunition that reinforces his incorrect claim.

          • Sshhh! As long as he doesn’t actually play them himself, he’ll never know otherwise.

    • Final Fantasy confirmed to be supporting it, SE as a whole is supporting it, Kingdom Hearts 3d, the Super Robot Series, Tales of the Abyss, Paper Mario,Atlus, Level-5 support (They used to do RPGs. Hell, maybe they’ll finally continue Rogue Galaxy), as well as Imageepoch, presumably NIS, and whoever makes Class of Heroes.

Considering that’s about half, if not more, of the current roster so far, I don’t think Lacking is the right word for it.

  • My god!! 2012 wtf T_T why do they have to leak this from now… AHH THIS MUST COME, it seems that Atlus completely ignored luminous arc 3 T_T darn wth is happening in Atlus.
This happened as well with Summon Night swordcraft story, they brought the 1 and 2 but ignored the 3rd, but i could understand because when the 3rd was released in japan the gba life spawn was already over…

But it has been okay to release Luminous arc3 for a while now… Now it seems its too late T_T

I know NISA has the pants now when it comes to imageepoch! GO NISA!!! weeeeee~

    • Too late? Dude, its not like they are eliminating nintendo DS support come March 31, 2011. We have to keep hope that LA3 will come out!

      • It’s too late… Is weird for Atlus to take this much time to announce something T_T

        • Really, didnt they only announce Radiant Historia 2 months before its release?

          • Didnt they announce it after…? Anyway even if it was 2 month before, is because Radiant Historia is an Atlus game, while Luminous arc, from Imageepoch, is another company’s game, i imagine contract like this are a lot more harder than dealing with your main office company.

      • Can you just please stop talking? Why is it so hard to keep your mouth shut?

LA3 isn’t coming. Look at their track record. If it was coming over, they would’ve done it LAST YEAR. LA3 came out in 2009. All the previous LA games that came out took less than 12 months to come out in NA at all. They announced the NA release dates within 4 months after the release of the JP versions.

Your blind optimism sickens me. Just don’t even bother replying to this. You’re going to tell me something like “Don’t be like that…” or some post about how I should be hopeful and be ignorant of the situation.

    • Pichi

Hoping either Atlus is super late, someone else will bring it, or its getting ported to another system. But most likely, yeah, its not leaving Japan. I knew every since Marvelous changed their policy, LA3 might have been screwed on releasing overseas.

      • Joanna

Hey Pichi, what do you mean Marvelous changed their policy? I had assumed this was entirely Atlus’ fault (the popularity of Demon Souls and the lacklustre -according to Altus via the forums- sales of LA2). But if that’s not the case, I’d like to know what is keeping LA3 in Japan (still a little bitter about that…)

  • onilink888

Does that mean we’ll get to see Fatima and/or Vanessa in TREE DEE?!

    A guy can certainly hope…

    • ChaosPaladinFayt

      YESS!! FATIMA!! *drool* >_<

  • kupomogli

Atlus is entirely different company it seems than back when they were originally localizing games. Now days it seems they’re really trying to attract a wider audience and are rarely localizing niche titles which is really what made them what they are today.

Similar to the Atlus of old, nearly every game XSeed has localized has been a quality title. I no longer buy every game Atlus releases anymore and haven’t for quite some time, but their rare release that does interest me I do pick up. I support XSeed by picking up most of their releases on day one.

    • kupomogli

My comment was to be a reply to Wild ARMs, accidently posted it as a new reply and can’t edit it because my computer at work blows.

      • It’s ok, i read it xD. Yeah, i agree, i love Atlus and all, but lately it doesn’t feels the same, and they seem too quiet, it’s been a while since i last got a news email from Atlus (without counting the new year one). AKSYS*, NISA and XSEED are the ones giving us more love lately. At least they are localizing this rpg for the DS (i can’t recall the name at the moment -.-, the one of different lines of times and all that).

    • onilink888

“Now days it seems they’re really trying to attract a wider audience and are rarely localizing niche titles which is really what made them what they are today.”

Tell me about it. I’ve given up hope that they would localize SRW OG Saga: Endless Frontier Exceed…

    • puchinri

Looking back, a lot of games I picked up way back were localized by Atlus, but now, I only pick up the games they developed.

But I am really enjoying XSeed’s localizations and hoping to play a few of them. I’m glad that XSeed is picking up a lot of niche titles (good ones, at that).

  • [The Hunter] Doomrider

RPG goodness spread across a thousand different platforms. Happiness for everyone, courtesy of Imageepoch <3

Just make sure they're good, yeah?

    • So far i still dont have a letdown from them, let’s hope it stays like this!

  • Darkrise

They announced this waaay too early… And also, has anyone questioned yet as to what happened to all that big talk from Imageepoch back in…Nov(?) about a new style of jrpg? 8 new ones? I recall that we only had 3 announced titles.

    • They’ve announced these 2 or 3 games that seem peculiar, we still have to see more about them though, the other ones are still a mistery

  • Make it more exciting then Luminous Arc and we have a deal :D

  • puchinri

Every time I see his name, I always think of DRRR!!.

I’m still only in the beginning of ARF, but I’m really looking forward to their new titles.

  • Joanna

Oh Imageepoch, you are such a tease. There is no need to be shy about developing for the 3DS. ;)

I really hope NISA brings this unnamed game and if I may be allowed to dream, LA3 too.
