Radiant Historia Lets You Rethink That Decision About Destroying The World

By Spencer . January 12, 2011 . 5:43pm

radianthistoria_screenshots_27Radiant Historia uses time-travel as a key gameplay mechanic. Stocke, the protagonist, must put together history between fragmented timelines.

By accident or, perhaps, on purpose you can send the world into ruin. But, don’t worry about that too much. Radiant Historia lets you rewind time and explore alternate paths. Atlus also developed a handy skip scene feature so you can speed past events you already saw.

  • kind of offtopic but i hope the 3DS is as much of an RPG machine as the DS

  • How come it sounded like the guy was reading a script the whole time?

The game looks pretty and the battle system as well, but does it all ONLY take place on the bottom screen? What is the top screen used for? just turn display?

    • Caligula

You’re right; he does sound like he’s reading. I was thinking the announcer sounded weird, but I couldn’t quite put my finger on it.

    • Exkaiser

He is reading from a script.

Let’s see, I think the top screen also displays your characters’ stats during battle, and the display can be changed mid-battle, but I don’t remember.

I’m reminded a bit of Dragon Quest VII. One of the towns kept getting destroyed by your decisions and you had to keep going back through time to change the past in order to save it in the present/future.

  • Selvan has a very prominent forehead.

  • I can’t wait. It’s been a while since I played a new RPG from Atlus….

  • Zero_Destiny

Now I’m stoked! It’ll be nice to play a new RPG on the DS. Besides 999 mine hasn’t seen too much action lately. Can’t wait to get the “bigger”-ish box with the OST as well. I love Atlus’s DS boxes lol. BTW I’m new to commeting sorry if it sounds a little choppy. Been following the site for a while and finally decided to join in on the comments.

Hm, I heard this was a budget game and watching this really appealed to me (not the narrator though lol). It sounds like a very good budget game (if it was a budget game, I don’t know where I heard that though)
I usually get Atlus games anyway, I’m not too sure what big things they have for this year though.

    • Zero_Destiny

Yeah I agree it looked really pretty for an DS RPG and seemed like it will be a long game with all the time-lines and stuff. Plus didn’t it have a famous composer. Seems like quite a budget there lol. Well I’m glad Atlus is releasing it and even though some people think they’ve “changed” I still have confidence in them. Now if only they give us a Catherine localization announcement. Oh and yeah the narrator was super monotone I agree with you there.

  • Code

    rar, seriously can’t wait, not only is it a nice looking JRPG, it’s a JRPG with time travel themes xwx~! Seriously I kind of feel like Chrono Trigger really scared developers away from tackling time traveling stories in games opo But it’s shame since there’s so many ways time travel can be used and played out, I always enjoy time traveling stories >w<;

  • Yui

I know it’s somewhat off-topic, but I’ve been listening to the Radiant Historia OST and piano arrangements and I won’t lie – they are fantastic. If the rest of the game is as high quality as what I’ve seen and enjoyed so far in that music and these screenshots, it’s going to be incredible. =D

Late edit: Now I have had the opportunity to listen to the entire OST. All I can say is, this game is now my number #1 priority. Amazing, spectacular, near-perfect soundtrack. Shimomura strikes again (even more impressive, considering the recent release of the just-as-incredible Last Ranker)!

  • Good choice of screenshots haha xD

  • I really do hope the dialouge “Huh! The only thing I’ll sell a human is a fist to the face! You want a free sample?” comes with a “Yes”, “No”, “Rethink” option that changes history depending on what you select

    • Vino (Tim N)

I think I’ll buy the game just for this reason.

  • “If you’ll excuse me, I must go set my own city on fire.” Hahaha. Now I want this game even more! If it doesn’t get released over here then I’m definitely importing it. :)

  • dusk

Wait a second, what’s the story again?

  • It looks like it’ll be a great game.

  • Joanna

No need to convince me any more Atlus, I’ve already got this preordered. :)

I hope this game does well enough to convince Atlus not to drop out of JRPG localization.

    • What makes you think they would drop out of JRPG localization? This FY had P3P which was probably a huge selling title and Demons Souls continues, Im quite sure they are not going to just “Drop Out”.
