Akuma And Taskmaster Rage In Marvel Vs. Capcom 3

By Spencer . January 17, 2011 . 9:39am

Both sides in Marvel vs. Capcom 3 get a new villain. In Capcom’s corner we have Akuma (aka Gouki) who first terrorized Super Street Fighter II Turbo players as a secret character. Akuma has his usual blend of fireballs, purple hurricane kicks, and his trademark Raging Demon super move.

Taskmaster is a new to the series. True to his comic roots he has moves borrowed from other Marvel characters like Spider-Man and Captain America. Keep an eye out for his take on the web swing and shield bash.

Akuma is as boring as always. Taskmaster seems really fun to play with

  • http://www.facebook.com/whoiscorwen Justin Whiteaker

    Taskmaster is a cool addition

  • Guest

Damn it whats so hard in putting in Dante Masamune from Basara or even a newer character like Asura from Asura’s Wrath.

    • http://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=100000301072427 Mark Shaver

*Date. And it may be because he’s not so much a Capcom character as, will, a historical Figure. It could also be because Koei has the rights to him as well (Or the fact that there are already 2 swordwielding gunslingers as it is).

    • http://myfigurecollection.net/collection/ashgail Ashgail

Date Masamune will just own everyone with his awesome engrish and badass fighting style.

    • http://tristsantithesis.tumblr.com/ Tsunayoshi Sawada

Why does everyone love Date! Why not my favorite Sanada

      • http://myfigurecollection.net/collection/ashgail Ashgail

Because everyone loves the cooler guy

      • Ren

Oh, come on! Even Yukimura loves Date(they are really campy with this on the anime). Altough I prefer Ieyasu, Magoichi and Tsuruhime over them, Date is still great and the better choice for a fighting game, Yukimura is too much of a crowd control character, Date has more style. And you gotta love his engrish.

Taskmaster has such an epic voice and flashy attacks! February an not come fast enough to CONUS!

    • FireCouch

Dude, I want your PSN so we can play.

      • http://tristsantithesis.tumblr.com/ Tsunayoshi Sawada

I only play against people who use mics!!!!

  • http://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=100000301072427 Mark Shaver

Isn’t Ken also in this game? While I do like Playing as Ryu and Ken, It seems kind of redundant to have 3 of the, essentially, same type of character in the game. If Ken is not in the game, then disregard my previous statement.

I wonder if they’ll have a dual voice option ala Blazblue, Cause I kinda prefer JP akuma’s voice. If not, I won’t trip.; It’s not THAT big of a deal.

And boy do I feel inadequate, considering these long combos these guys are pulling off are well past my skill level. Aw well, I still enjoy them so that’s really all that matters.

And is Taskmaster voiced by…Spike Spiegel!?! <3 He looks surprisingly fun ad I shall definitely look into him more!

    • JustAnotherTraveler

The combo system in this game is rather loose. Believe me..even if you can’t do the links in Street Fighter 4, you’ll be able to pull off really long combos in this game. A lot of the combos here are also somewhat intuitive. For example, if you knock someone to the ground with Hulk, then his ground tidal wave super will hit them, as it’s also on the ground. If you assign numbers to each button, then a lot of these combos end up being simple things like 123 launcher, 123 special, 123 knockdown, special/super. Obviously, that’s oversimplifying it, but it isn’t too far off either.

      • http://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=1472407455 Charles Lupula

I really hate the BlazBlue numbering system. I find it confusing, but probably because I’ve been using the old QCB, HCF, DP, etc… for years.

        • JustAnotherTraveler

The numbers were just supposed to be random buttons. I didn’t feel like using actual button notations because I knew they wouldn’t technically be accurate to any character. My point was just that even the longest of combos in this game tend to be rather simple weak, medium, hard, launcher, weak, medium, special of some kind, hard that knocks them to the ground, pick up with super, etc.. It is a lot of button presses, but fairly simplistic.

        • http://www.genkaibreak.com Code

You mean like 214214 C? That didn’t just start with Blazblue, although it does seem like with Blazblue everything start to switch over to that system (easy way to read it is just picture a numberpad like on a keyboard). Although I think what JustAnotherTraveler was getting at was akin to Blazblue’s A > B > C “attack flow”, not actual number/direction connotations.

          • http://myfigurecollection.net/collection/ashgail Ashgail

I’m still dumbfounded on why new school fighting games want to distinguish themselves really badly from old school fighting games. HCB,F+D is way easier to read than 632146+D in any way. I love GG and BB more than SF, but I think it’s unnecessary when you want to change a really solid direction convention just to say you’re different

          • Nite

I think it’s mainly because the Japanese use it. In pretty much all the games that use it, the community is fairly small compared to the Capcom games, but you can easily look up Japanese sites and videos for things like combos because 6A in Japanese is still 6A in English. In longer combos, I find the number notation easier to read, and it’s great for explaining different TK cancels and Bang’s FRKZ combos.

Of course I love the SF notation too. The only notation system I hate is Tekken because it so tedious to read through.

          • http://myfigurecollection.net/collection/ashgail Ashgail

I see, great to know how it all started. Thank for the info, mate

          • http://www.genkaibreak.com Code

Nite pretty much has it nailed below I figure; it’s not something specifically pushed by ASW, it’s just been how the community has handled this, and I think it specifically switching to numbers has it’s roots in the Japanese community. Personally doesn’t matter to me, QCB, 214 is the same amount of letters to read, rar, I personally prefer arrows >w<

          • http://myfigurecollection.net/collection/ashgail Ashgail

            I remember learning KOF94 with arrows… Such memories :P

    • http://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=1472407455 Charles Lupula

Ken is not in the game. The SF reps are Ryu, Akuma, Crimson Viper, and Chun Li.

And they’ve said that the Capcom characters with have dual voice with an option for each one of them, like in SF4/SSF4.

  • http://myfigurecollection.net/collection/ashgail Ashgail

Shun Goku Satsu is invulnerable to projectiles? That’s cheating

  • JustAnotherTraveler

And so Capcom once again wasted a roster rep not just with a Street Fighter character, but a shoto at that. I will say that at the very least, the effect on Akuma’s purple flames is outstanding. Also, Taskmaster’s opening line is the best quote in the whole game. Aside from the Captain America/Hulk charge (which is just a generic tackle anyway) and the web swing, what other moves are borrowed? Most of his moveset seems unique to me. When I heard he would just have everyone else’s moves, I thought he was a complete waste of a slot, but this guy is epic and unique.

    • http://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=1472407455 Charles Lupula

If I recall correctly, Taskmaster’s line is actually a line he used in a Moon Knight comic.

    • krokounleashed

I don’t see Akuma as a waste. In Marvel there are just – what? – 4 SF-Chars and two of them are shotos. And we already know, there will be no more. You’re all just whining because there is not $char in.

      • neon6

Wasn’t it said before that no more SF characters were going to be added? I just hope it doesn’t end up like SSF4 where the final number of shotos clocked out around 8.

        • krokounleashed

There are only 2 slots left and they will go to Hsien-Ko and Sentinel – So, no.

      • JustAnotherTraveler

There is no reason to put multiple Street Fighter characters in a game like this. Not only do all these characters still appear at least once a year in new fighting games, but Akuma of all characters is just another shoto clone and they didn’t even try to make him any more unique or even use his unique SF3 super. Four characters is three too many. It doesn’t help that three of those four are just ported from Tatsunoko or MvC2. Capcom should shoot for a good variety of franchises selected and also try to include characters that don’t normally see the light of day very often, which was why Strider was such a great inclusion in the older titles. But seriously, does Street Fighter, pretty much the biggest Capcom franchise now of which gets new games every two minutes, need the most characters? I’m not whining that they included Akuma over someone else (who is to say they even thought about someone like Venom or Dr Strange?), but the fact that they included Akuma. Quality>Quantity.

        • krokounleashed

Strider will be DLC for sure. Just look at capcom-unity in the forums, there is/was a official thread to vote for which chars should be included. Instead of bitching around, go vote. I was first pissed too, there is no Cable or Psylocke (yet).

        • http://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=1472407455 Charles Lupula

I don’t have a problem with multiple Street Fighter characters. I just wish if they had to put another one in, it had been a unique character, like Cammy or Bison or Juri or Guile. Somebody who doesn’t play very similar to someone already in the game (Ryu). Akuma does feel like a waste to me, but only because of how he plays.

        • http://twitter.com/gabriel_may_uk Gabriel May

Because when it comes to Capcom fighting games, the Street Fighter series is the best representive. It revolutionized the fighting genre not once (Street FIghter II) but twice (Street Fighter IV) So when you have a Capcom vs. game, it would make sense to include a few characters from Street Fighter series. This would be like not having any Jedi’s in a Star Wars film. Also only four chracters from SF have been inducted so your pretty much overreacting.

Capcom are catering to older and new fans. And many fans like Akuma so why not include him? And I’m sure Akuma’s playing style is different to Ryu’s. And I’m also tired of people complaining of shoto characters being included. Don’t like them, don’t play them. Not like the whole roster is composed like that.

“Capcom should shoot for a good variety of franchises selected and also try to include characters that don’t normally see the light of day very often”

So Mike Haggar, Zero, Dante, Trish, Arthur, Amaterasu, Albert Wesker, Chris Redfield, Tron Bonne, Viewtiful Joe and Nathan Spencer not enough for you?

Sorry but your acting like a spoit child. As if you wrote a list of characters that MUST be included and Capcom didn’t listen to just you.

I’m sure Capcom will provde extra characters down the road (as DLC yes…suck it up people) so maybe they will include those you wanted on your list.

  • ForeverFidelis

    TASKMASTER! HELL YES!

To be honest, I’m a bit disappointed with his voice. Always imagined it to be deeper.

But that doesn’t matter, I’m just estatic that he’s in. Hopefully his Udon costume will be an alternate skin

  • http://www.facebook.com/people/Christopher-Carmona/100000347329518 Christopher Carmona

Dammit, seems like Venom won’t be joining the chaos this time around…I’ll try to keep my hopes up but with the Symbiote Spiderman costume, I may as well lose hope. Come on Carnage! D:

    • Guest

I thought black costume is in

      • http://www.facebook.com/people/Christopher-Carmona/100000347329518 Christopher Carmona

        It is in.

  • Aiddon

no Frank or Samanosuke/Soki yet. Oh well, Akuma looks to be a fun rushdown character.

  • SonicRulez

No Mega Man, but make way for Taskmaster and Ryu: Black. I love Akuma, but you’re killing me guys.

  • puchinri

I do love me some Taskmaster. Him and She-Hulk are nice additions (can we get more nice additions though, like ones we really want?).

I do wish his voice was a little cooler though.

    • JustAnotherTraveler

The best part about Taskmaster is his voice. It’s amazing.

      • puchinri

I do like the voice, but I feel like they could have done better for Taskie.

  • http://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=1472407455 Charles Lupula

Well, the leak is officially true then. Last boss would be Galactus and there’s two more characters to reveal, in the form of Hsien-Ko and, ugh, Sentinel. There’s a bunch of characters I much rather would’ve seen than Taskmaster and Akuma (Ms. Marvel, Gene from Godhand, The Sentry, etc…), but there’s always DLC, I guess.

    • http://tristsantithesis.tumblr.com/ Tsunayoshi Sawada

Somewhere said its just 36 characters, is that the leak? Im just shocked it has less characters than the phenomenally epic Naruto Shippuden Ultimate Ninja Storm 2.

Oh well, Im just glad some RE characters made it (Ada Wong wouldda been nice)

      • http://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=1472407455 Charles Lupula

Well, if you do the math, we’re up to 34 announced characters right now, excluding the DLC ones (Jill and Shuma-Gorath), so plus two more would equal 36.

    • JustAnotherTraveler

Glad I’m not the only one who really wanted Ms Marvel. I would have loved to see Gene, but given the sales of God Hand, I can see why Capcom avoided him. Ms Marvel, on the other hand, is not only awesome, but she adds as another female rep and is very important story wise partly due to her modern role in the Avengers and such. It’s a shame they didn’t put her in. People hoping for a lot of DLC characters should probably just stop now. At the very most, we would maybe see a total of four DLC characters to make an even 40 playable, but I highly doubt they are going to start releasing a pair a month or something.

      • http://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=1472407455 Charles Lupula

Oh, I totally don’t see them making more than 6 DLC characters, including the already announced two. But out of the list of characters I gave, any of those would be welcome.

  • http://www.spinzshowroom.com Sp!nz

Gouki looks just awesome and the Shun-goku-satsu as a counter is a good way to avoid any lost of dynamics of the battle (after all we’re talking about the best cross-over game)

I’m still wondering if we have any chance to see Strider Hiryu back in this episode considering we are near to the release , but we could continue to cross fingers to see him in an eventual DLC…

For my case i should have to wait 1 year to play it , finishing my studies in Tokyo :( , furthermore my Ps3 is actually in repair service

As a french i don’t know so much about comics (exepted the most famous) but this game allow me to discover them through their heroes and i can considerate it as a bonus , good way then !

  • PrinceHeir

if only Gene, Vergil, Strider even Juri makes it here. i would be sooo happy but as long as we either get them DLC or the next Tantsunoko VS game it’s all good ^^

akuma looks cool don’t know about that taskmaster guy seems pretty cool to me.

  • Hexen

looks like that Silver Doctor Doom on Akuma’s trailer was a boss battle and did i hear some kid chuckles on Akuma’s victory pose on the last part?

  • countupyoursins

Both lame choices in my book.

    Oh well.

    • FireCouch

If you could have anyone, who would you choose?

      • http://pulse.yahoo.com/_6ZW7WOPHHL7FBXV3NITCF2433E Greg

Venom would have been nice.A character that mimics other characters isn’t much of a character.

        • http://twitter.com/gabriel_may_uk Gabriel May

He has his “own” attacks (if you count attacks borrowed from the Green Arrow and Black Knight his own lol). I think Onslaught would be better then Venom :D

  • http://twitter.com/gabriel_may_uk Gabriel May

Taskmaster seemed like a weird choice to me. But upon reading up on him he sounds pretty neat. Glad to see Akuma, who still retains one of the best supers ever :D

  • Scallion

Akuma is so boring I wanted to cry. Capcom has so many cool/creative characters in its roster that so-called classic characters like Akuma and Chun-Li appear as blind spots when I hit up a character select screen.
Show of hands: who was more interested in guys like Ippatsuman and Casshern in TvC?

However, I *literally* squealed with glee watching that Taskmaster vid.
    So, so def!
