Dreamcast Collection Box Art Brings Back Memories

By Spencer . January 19, 2011 . 11:31pm

Sega’s Dreamcast Collection box art is busy with an Xbox 360 stripe on top, a picture of the console, and slides for the four games in the tiny "collection".

Since the design is based on the old Dreamcast case art, the curvy bumper on the left was a thoughtful addition. The orange triangle is sort of neat too since Dreamcast’s front light has an orange hue.

Devs of today………remember the stuff that isn’t in this collection when producing your next title!

    • thebanditking

I completely agree game developers need to remember the roots of this industry because its all fading into generic FPS’s and casual garbage. I really miss the days where consoles were judged by their ability to replicate the Arcades, not how close they were to a PC (always hated PC gaming)

Sadly that’s been lost when today’s target generation knows nothing but the absolute remnants of arcade systems or culture. Bless the DC and its Naomi heritage! The Wii is about the only one to have a family tree in that direction at all today, which is perhaps why some of its most successful adult-target titles have been the rail shooters.

It says Dreamcast three times on that one cover. Sega twice. It still does look like a really busy cover. Maybe move the Dreamcast down a bit @[email protected]

  • *sniff* Will there ever be a day for the Dreamcast and all of its innovation to come back?

  • I really regret selling off my Dreamcast, now I’m gonna buy another one.

    • I regret selling off Skies of Arcadia…

      • Me too but good thing I got the GameCube version. Sega should do a remake or a sequel.

    • thebanditking

I still have my launch one from 9-9-99. Took off from High School so I could play it with my brother the whole next day.

  • PrinceHeir

hopefully there’s a Shenmue collection in the future :P

  • xxx128

    want dreamcast 2

  • Is this what you want us to do Sega? Do you want us to come begging to you with a list of games we want to see because if so I am more then willing to lower myself it means getting more games out.

Here’s a bunch of stuff you can take from your collection surely (taken from Wikipedia :D)

Okay some of these aren’t great and some of these titles I have no idea what they are (they just sound cool) and a fair few are Japanese. But at the speed your going it seems you have time to translate the Japanese titles anyway (and I would really love to give Segagaga a go) and also I want the the Dreamcast catalouge to be about volume (because in doing so, a lot of gems will come up :D)

Also note this is just games Sega have either developed or published :D

Anyway GET TO IT SEGA…rant over

  • Zero_Destiny

Arts nice but the collection is still lame, what it really needs is Jet Set Radio, or Phantasy Star Online, Shenmue, or any of the awesome Fighters :( Oh well it’s kind of cool to see Sega release a collection game again even though they’ve released better (in fact the Genesis Collection that was just released was WAY better than this). Dreamcast deserves better. :(

  • I’m getting a Dreamcast on Saturday! :D

    I’m really excited! :D :D

  • LynxAmali

I was hoping for Acardia…-_- What I got was Crazy Taxi. >_<

Still hoping for Capcom to follow suit and release a Retro Pack. *coughPowerStone&TechRomancercough*

  • tha_Chiller

    so ahead of its time

  • I can’t wait for them to release it. Hopefully though they don’t have things locked like they did on Sonic’s Ultimate Genesis Collection.

I mean… Phantasy Star 2-4 unlocked. But you have to unlock Phantasy Star 1.

  • Hmm, Should I buy this for my 360 or a Dreamcast and then the games? This is a dilemma for me personally, seeing as though I missed out on the dreamcast, but my chance has finally arrived.

    • Zero_Destiny

If you care for these games, than get it. Also check XBOX Arcade/PSN since they have Dreamcast games to download. XBOX (the original not 360) Also has Phantasy Star Online, and Shenmue II (and I think a port of I) on it. But I believe PSO is useless now because the servers are down and it won’t even let you play the single-player mode. But the GC version of PSO still works with a cool split-screen multiplayer mode in it so you don’t need to go online to play. GC also has the first two Sonic Adventure games, the two cray Taxi games, Skies of Acardia, and the two Evolution games combined on one disc with new voice acting on it. The PS2 has a port of Grandia II. There are Dreamcast games everywhere. But if you want the real experience then get a Dreamcast because most of the epic fighters are still on it. Be warned even though the system itself is cheap some games are expensive on it since they’ve long been out of print and are limited in numbers. Just research and find out if the games you want you can find at a reasonable price. In my personal opinion though nothing beats starting up the old Dreamcast and watching that logo spin round. XD
