First Look At The Social Shin Megami Tensei Game, Devil Hunter Zero

By Spencer . January 21, 2011 . 12:17am

imageAtlus has a social Shin Megami Tensei game for mobile phones and Devil Hunter Zero is an actual Shin Megami Tensei game too, not a spinoff like Persona or Devil Survivor.

Shin Megami Tensei: Devil Hunter Zero lets players build relationships with demons and take on missions. These appear to be dungeon-like from the screenshots. Series character designer an occasional producer Kazuma Kaneko contributed demon designs for Devil Hunter Zero.

Building on the social premise, Shin Megami Tensei: Devil Hunter Zero has a new demon relation rental system where you can lend your demons to other players.

Unlike Persona 3 Social, Devil Hunter Zero is a GREE game. That’s the same platform Square Enix used for Knights of the Crystal, which was eventually ported to Facebook for an international audience. Atlus has not announced any plans of that sort at this time. If you’re in Japan, have a mobile phone, and are on GREE you can play Shin Megami Tensei: Devil Hunter Zero today.

  • Yay, and this is why i love owning a Keitai :P

  • As long as demons don’t ask for Atlus coins or w/e they would call it, then this would definitely be a welcome addition on Facebook.

The Compendium is probably what they would charge for though… Not a big deal… I guess?

Hmmm… if the 3DS’s web browser can go on Facebook and support Flash(reminder: what if situation) and this game did go on Facebook… and then a section of a major city gets locked down due to some “accident”… Hmmm…

Microtransaction for the usage of demon storage space is highly unnerving.

Try out SMT Online. You might understand what I mean…

So the idea of microtransaction for usage of the compendium is nightmarish, if you were to ask me.

      • True. That’s why I’m questioning myself about it. It could end up like Knights of the Crystal though, where there is the alternate, much longer option of having friends help you with expanding the space in your compendium by clicking on links… even if it ends up being one or two friends per day helping you in the end…

        • SeventhEvening

That’s what I hate about Knights of the Crystal…such a small bank storage really makes things painful.

          • I know… T.T

Although… There are more than enough people in Siliconera’s Facebook group to be “friends” with each other and you can setup them up in lists where they can only see game updates. Then again, I suppose resorting to that tactic is really petty.

  • Go on, bring to Facebook in the west so I can spend a few months on it before I get bored due to ridicilous quests :D

  • Hraesvelgr

Well… at least it’s not Persona 3 related, I guess. That’s about the only really positive thing I can say about it, though…

  • mirumu

I wonder what the odds are of Atlus developing games like this for Android or the iPhone? I know their market share in Japan isn’t all that just yet, but they seem to be making healthy gains.

    • Testsubject909

Considering Index’s focus, odds are that they’ll pressure Atlus into making games for the more popular phones accessible in Japan rather then think internationally, which in turn will reduce the possible profit that they could gain from Atlus and that Atlus itself could garner for it’s next releases.

I’m growing all the more fearful of what Index will do to Atlus…

  • >Facebook
    >add Lucifer at my friend list

  • PrinceHeir

    looks cool :D

i have never been a fan of mobile games and all, is it really that good?

    • Some are. Personally I don’t like most but I’m really a traditionalist when it comes to my games and systems.

  • A lot of re-releases and games that aren’t Atlus’ normal area. What are they up to?

  • SolidusSnake

Laplaceville? I hope to YHWH and Louis Cypher that this isn’t the future of Shin Megami Tensei…

  • cj_iwakura

    Awesome logo.

  • Strain42

…It would be cool if this got brought to Facebook for international audiences, but I’m gonna guess that seems unlikely. I’m glad we finally got some info on this though. The last word we had of this said it was gonna be out in November lol.

  • FFFFF Screw you Index and dissolving my Atlus and absorbing them into your mobile phone social game maw T____T Gimme my heroes back.
