Xenoblade Still Listed On Nintendo’s Release Calendar

By Ishaan . January 27, 2011 . 9:45pm

There’s been a lot of talk about Xenoblade and The Last Story in recent times, with debates and complaints around whether or not the two games will be localized. To clear this up, we look to Nintendo’s list of games for the year ahead.

Monado: Beginning of the World, which was the original title for Xenoblade, is still listed on Nintendo’s 2011 release calendar for the U.S., along with The Legend of Zelda: Skyward Sword. Both games’ release periods are listed as “TBA” (to be announced).

But wait! What about The Last Story? That still isn’t listed! Does that mean it isn’t coming over?!

No, that’s not what it means at all. As we’ve said in the past, The Last Story just saw its release in Japan this past week. If Monolith Soft’s RPG is making it over, there’s little reason to suggest that Mistwalker’s shouldn’t, given the talent associated with it.

    Thank the Lord for that!

  • Pesmerga00

Please, please, please, localize Xenoblade and especially The Last Story. They both look phenomenal. I haven’t been this hyped for a game in a while. I wonder how much pull The Gooch has in this decision, what with Nintendo publishing. He seems to want it localized, but is hesitant to talk about it.

If you don’t mind me linking to another site. This Iwata asks features both games, and is an interesting read.http://www.andriasang.com/e/blog/2011/01/25/iwata_asks_rpg/

Aoshi00 if you read this and don’t mind me asking. Have you had a chance to play The Last Story yet? If so what are your impressions? I have heard nothing but good things from others.

    • Aoshi00

Sry, not yet, yesterday there was a snowstorm over here (we’ve had a lot of snow in the past several weeks..), so NCSX didn’t get their shipment, otherwise I might’ve rec’d the game today *.*! I shoveled for 2hrs in the morning but didn’t end up going to work after all.. so hopefully they should get it today and ship it this afternoon, if I don’t get it tmw on Sat, it would be early next week.. I’ve glanced at the reviews on Amazon Jpn, seems positive mostly (being the best RPG on the Wii along w/ Xenoblade).. I hope they include the bonus artbook and CD… I’ll let you know once I get the game and play a bit :) I would need to set GalGun and Dream Club Zero aside lol..

      • malek86

“being the best RPG on the Wii along w/ Xenoblade”

        Not much competition, though.

But agree that it looks pretty good, even if I’m not convinced about the battle system. I just started LO (went past the first boss, it was very difficult, although some people told me that’s the only difficult part of the game) and I definitely like the Gooch’s design choices.

If it came to Europe or USA, I’d give it a chance for sure, even if I’m generally against real-time RPGs.

        • Aoshi00

I know, but I would say Xenoblade (and most likely Last Story) are some of the best RPGs this gen, or ever, not just on the Wii. Xenoblade’s battles were exciting and intense. Of course for turn-based it would be Blue Dragon and LO.

There are quite a few difficult parts in Lost Odyssey, just make sure you don’t get the DLC accessory for Kaim, that made the game too easy and almost game breaking since Kaim could dodge attacks 90% of the time. The 2nd boss and a few others later are challenging too (since there’s level cap), I remember getting gameovers from small fries when I was careless (every turn counts), which is why I liked LO so much, I like the Gooch’s design a lot too.

And Earth Seeker looks cool too. I haven’t played enough Arc Rise Fantasia yet (just 5-6 hrs), but Wii has been blessed w/ some really top notched RPGs graced by the masters.

      • Pesmerga00

All that shoveling, a day off work, and the bastards still didn’t deliver it. :P

From the things I have read the character interaction and battles seem to be top notch. This excerpt from an impression stood out for me.(makes me want it more) Not really spoilers but I’ll mark it anyway.

You can tell a lot of love was put in to this game. Every encounter was hand crafted and is unique. No random battles (so far) and no hearing the same 10 or so attack call-outs over and over. Every battle has a different strategy. Love it!

My favorite encounter so far had me and Quark sitting outside this room where a guy and his gang of thieves were hanging out. Quark says to me, “Elza you stay here, we’ll go around and attack from the other side. Don’t move till I give the sign” So I stay there and wait. Then, I hear Quark go “Ok get ready to attack in 3… 2… GO!” and I see him bust through the other side as I’m running in through my side, we sandwich the enemies and take em out. It was so cool. The whole dungeon (The raid on this thief’s hangout) really felt more than just an RPG dungeon and more like we were really in there with a purpose. Something you just don’t get in RPGs.

When you do get it, post some impressions. :)

        • Aoshi00

I know, damn mother nature messing w/ our gaming schedule :(.. it would be a different story if I got snowed in when I have the game and play hooky lol.. oh well, I was watching Sorcerer’s Apprentice.. big Nic Cage fan :)

Will do, good sir, I can’t wait either. I guess it’s true Last Story’s gameplay was influenced by Gear of War, like you could go in gun blazing, but you would get slaughtered if you don’t tackle a situation efficiently depending on the environment. All the chars seem very likable.. Elza’s voiced by the ever dramatic Yagami Light lol…

        • Tokyo Guy

I’m just a bit curious. Are you at all bothered by the game’s, shall I say…”lacking” visuals? From all the images and movies I saw prior to the release the game seemed as if it would be on-par with Xenoblade, but alas such is far from the truth.

Also, are you still finding the game to be very enjoyable?

      • PrinceHeir

wait are you from the east coast? if soo i am also ^^

especially here in NY, i haven’t been able to make the first day of class due to buses being slow and such and snow being thick and such.

wait your ordering both The Last Story and Xenoblade which you also ordered Other M awhile ago? damn it Aoshi-kun why must you have all the good stuff O_O

        • Aoshi00

I live in Jersey but work in NYC :) Yep, the snowstorms have wreaked havoc in the North East recently, w/ another big one coming this Wed… I ordered Xenoblade when it came out, I only played ~16 hours of it and got distracted by other games and didn’t touch it since (I start many games and finish very few these days…I definitely need to go back to it..), make no mistake it was an excellent game, I was just lazy… I really can’t wait for Last Story, NCSX just shipped my copy, hopefully it would be here tmw so I could give it undivided attention over the weekend. Lol, I dunno, let’s just say I’m not the most frugal, I spent way too much though, importing burns a deep hole in your wallet especially these days.. I even got that Tsuku Monogatari PSP game just because I’m curious (see why I can’t finish most games these days :(…. And I’d be getting Catherine too (don’t mean to blow my own horn or anything… the demo was amazing) I’m easily tempted by pre-order bonuses *.*..

          • … There’s another storm coming? *sigh* This is getting more frustrating.

          • Aoshi00

Yep, should be Wed. I know.. I’m actually a rain/snow guy, I don’t mind on the weekends, but on weekdays, it’s a bit too much getting up early to do back breaking shoveling..

          • Zero_Destiny

Ha you guys got nothing!!!! Here in Buffalo we get lake effect snow everyday. Wake up shovel the drive-way. Get home from work/school shovel the drive-way. Run out of juice and have to go to Wegmens (grocery store here) Shovel the drive-way. It never ends :( Miss being a kid and not having to deal with the weather. But the wind it’s the worst. Bitter to the bone. If I could have it my way I wouldn’t leave my home until late March/April when things get warmer.

          • Well, I live in a condo, so I don’t have to worry about shoveling. My biggest concern is how these storms affect the family business, which is a bakery. I mean, we probably won’t go into the red, but profits will still be down because of them. Oh, btw, very off-topic shameless plug while I’m at it, the name of the bakery is Double Crispy Bakery and it’s located on Grand Street between Elizabeth and Bowery.

            Capitalism, ho!

I would say something on-topic here but… I got nothing.

        • Zero_Destiny

          Go EAST COAST!!!! lOl

        • PrinceHeir

im just glad i don’t have classes on tuesdays ^^

          awesome Aoshi-kun :D

it seems you’ll have to finish tons of backlog games O_O

i cannot wait for my God Hand and Megaman X Collection next week(hopefully since the storm can delay this)

ahhh Catherine another Day 1 for me, please Atlus put Dual Audio with subs please =)

yeah i wish it’s already march or april, for me May is probably the best, not to hot and not to cold perfect :)

  • I trust Reggie and hope that this is one of the titles that must be seen to be believed. Regardless, hopefully it helps their precipitous income isshu.

Xenoblade will be mine on Day 1 Baby! Day 1, as Ive been waiting for this for ages!

    • Tsuna, can we get a list of your “day 1” games?

      • vadde939

I don’t even wanna know how long that list would be O_O

      • SolidusSnake

All of them. No seriously, every game that ever has been, or will be released. The guy has deep pockets.

      • Kris
        • Zero_Destiny

Silly wiki Final Fantasy Versus XIII won’t come out in 2011 no no It’ll come out in 20011. lol Sorry I couldn’t resits.

          • You think it’ll become the new ‘Duke Nukem’? as in – it’ll come out when Hell freezes over?

            lol, I jest, I jest

        • fallen

          *citizen kane applause*

          • Pesmerga00

Wait, what were we talking about?

      • Zero_Destiny

Sawada’s never ending Pockets. Truly one of the mysteries of our world. They are quite honestly endless like a black hole and just like a black hole if you’re not careful they’ll suck you right in. You’ll spin around and round going insane and when you try to let out a scream all you’ll hear is nothingness. Ashamed and devastated you’ll wish for this to end. But alas, Sawada’s bank account has more numbers than the equation of pi so your wish will go on unfulfilled and the torture will never end. All the while when you’re losing it Sawada’s literally laughing his way to the bank to withdraw more money to appease his obsession of day 1 baby. A fate worse than death itself can be found in his coveted pockets

      • LOL you really wanna know? The last time I counted I was at over 35 games for Day 1 coming in 2011 alone. This is just a small sampling, but I havent added at least 5 games to the list (do you know how much dedication it takes to even maintain a wish, I just keep stuff on a wishlist on Amazon and barely take the time to transfer it over to the sticky notes on the desktop. lol) These shall be mine on Day 1 Baby! (and dont forget the NGP!)

        Mass Effect 2
Marvel Vs Capcom 3: Fate of Two Worlds
        Dues Ex: Human Revolution

        Infamous 2
        The Last Guardian

        Uncharted 3: Drake’s Deception
        Resistance 3

        Final Fantasy XIII-2

        • Zero_Destiny

One should truly not underestimate the never ending power of Sawada’s pockets.

    • Does being a lab tech really pay well enough to “Day 1” everything?

  • Zero_Destiny

Really would love to see these come stateside, but if anyone doesn’t mind my asking why did they change the name of XenoBlade to Monado: Beginning of the World? Legal issues or is XenoBlade just not cool enough to sell a game in the US? lol Not mad or anything really want the game and would love it regardless. Just curious.

    • It was changed to Xenoblade in Japan first remember,

*In January 2010, the game was renamed from Monado: Beginning of the World to Xenoblade to honor Tetsuya Takahashi, “who poured his soul into making this and who has been working on the Xeno series”

    • Pesmerga00

It’s the other way around. It was changed to Xenoblade to honor Tetsuya Takahashi I believe. Also to probably try and boost sales from name recognition.

    • Zero_Destiny

Ah I see, thanks Pesmerga00 and Sawada. I honestly pushed it off my radar when I first heard it was an action game since I prefer RPGs to be turned-based but I’ve been coming around to action games lately (since there’s so much of them now and so little turned based ones T_T) so I haven’t been following it too much. Still really want it now though. Also it does feel obvious that they’re trying to cash in on Xeno lol Still think XenoBlade is a better title though but I’m happy as long as I get it.

  • puchinri

I thought Amazon still had Xenoblade listed (under which name is the question) and Gamestop had it up for a while, so I figured we would see it, but when was the question. I don’t mind Nintendo taking their time as long as we get it (and it’s darn good localizing).

I hope we won’t have to wait too long for The Last Story though. How does the content in TLS compare to Xenoblade? I remember reading somewhere that Xenoblade had a ton of customization and little events with your party and even lots of townsfolk, so I figure all that would take some time to localize, but TLS also has quite a bit of customization, etc. it looks like.

  • vadde939

Get to it Nintendo. Localize Xenoblade and The Last Story ASAP. These two games are pretty much the most hyped I’ve ever been for anything on the Wii so Nintendo had better not disappoint.

  • If they decide to localize it, I hope it doesn’t flop like Xenosaga did towards the end.
Needs to be advertised like Dragon Quest.

  • Kris

    This pleases me.
That said, Xenoblade is a much more appealing title than Monado: Beginning of the World. I hope they stick with the newer name!

    • Zero_Destiny

Agreed I like it better too XD But any name is fine if they called it Game McGame Gamy Game I’d still buy it so long as it’s good with a steady localization lol

  • necrosex

rumor: apparently there’s a new first party game called Pandora’s Tower, a new Kirby game similar to the GC style, and more unannounced Wii games.

    • Well its not really a rumor since it was stated in a Nintendo Q & A. You left out the Wii and 3DS products of Pokemon.

  • Look Nintendo, most of us are going to buy your 3DS despite the fact that within the year you’ll lower the price and release improved models. So at the very least you could give us Xenoblade and The Last Story.

    Goddamn Xenoblade looks beautiful.

  • Things like this always got me asking.. Why can’t people just make it a multiplatform??? Sigh… I know its about money. but… sigh..

    • ‘Cause they’d have to build it from the ground up. Sort of like what they had to do for the console version of Tatsunoko vs. Capcom. Different architecture means basically remaking the entire game.

    • jarrodand

Same reason why Halo and GT don’t go multiplatform. You know these are Nintendo games, right?

  • malek86

Honestly, I’m not very convinced because it’s still named Monado. It’s almost like they still have that thing there just because they can’t be bothered to take it down.

    • To support your theory:

PAL region was supposed to get Wario Land: Twisted. They listed that on their various European sites for years and even updated the release date from time to time.

      We never got it.

      • malek86

Weren’t there some legal problems with Warioware Twisted? I heard the cartridge contained too much of something and they wouldn’t accept it here. Maybe at one point they did hope to bring it.

Anyway, yeah, just saying these lists can’t be blindly trusted. If it’s true, all the best.

  • badmoogle

This generation will be incomplete for me if they don’t localize these 2 titles.I bought my Wii primarily for games like these, and there have been far too few quality ones in this genre.
Please localize Xenoblade and The Last Story for N.A and Europe Nintendo!

    • Aoshi00

Very true, it would be a travesty if they don’t, definitely worth getting a Wii just for these 2 games alone.

    • PrinceHeir

yes please nintendo, just as when your already getting tons of support. just support them back and both developers and fans will be happy :P

also Earth Seeker, Fatal Frame 4 and 2 Remake, Disaster Days Crisis, Moter 3(or why not a compilation on the 3DS?) i don’t care if i keep repeating this on every nintendo thread, this needs to happen

  • Hraesvelgr

Between this and Sakaguchi/Mistwalker tweeting about Last Story in English, I really wish they’d stop teasing me about these games.

    • Pesmerga00

I know, right. It seems like he really wants to have this game released in most regions( if nothing else, the guy is passionate about his work). I just wonder how much pull he has with Nintendo.

  • Please bring both games

  • ZomaNeko

I think it will be a last second official localization announcement. Like you know how for DQVI and DQIX were officially announced a little under two months from their release? It’s probably gonna be the same thing here. Knowing that I think we’ll probably get Xenoblade sometime in the summer.

    • PurpleDoom

That’s how they’ve been doing all their games recently. Personally, I like it better that way. And I do hope we get these, they look great… I’m one of the five people who watched the Monado trailer when it first came out and it looked fantastic.

  • gatotsu911

    Hoo… ray?
Oh, man… the suspense is TEARING ME APART!!!! (Lisa)

  • I just need to know … when … nothing else …

  • AaqibRawat

    Dont break my heart Nintendo

    Fingers crossed

The nintendo wii graced with Xenoblade and Last story oh how i love thee my wii

  • Tokyo Guy

You know, I’ve been playing The Last Story for the past few days and just looking at the above screenshot from Xenoblade makes it all the more sad how bad TLS looks. Monolith really did a FANTASTIC job making a game on the antiquated Wii hardware look absolutely stunning.
