Atlus Are Loving Life With Hello Kitty & Friends

By Ishaan . March 1, 2011 . 11:27am

Atlus aren’t done with the Nintendo DS yet. While Naruto Shippuden: Shinobi Rumble and Radiant Historia released earlier in the month, we have another DS game coming in the form of Loving Life with Hello Kitty & Friends, a follow-up to Happy Party with Hello Kitty & Friends (pictured to the right).

Thanks to an ESRB rating, we know that the game is suitable for all ages. “This is a collection of mini-games based on the Hello Kitty franchise,” they reveal. “Players can wash dishes, ring up groceries, and use in-game credits (i.e., Puros) to purchase colorful outfits and decorations for Kitty’s room.”

Rising Star are publishing Loving Life with Hello Kitty & Friends in Europe. Their website has a bit more to add, like the fact that you can help Hello Kitty’s friends do their homework. You can also work at shops:

“Play with Hello Kitty and her friends over five distinctive areas: Kitty’s room, the shops, the food court, shopping area and playing with Hello Kitty’s friends. In Hello Kitty’s room you can customise furniture, clothing and accessories. At the shops you can put on unique uniforms for each shop, play fun mini-games and help out at various shops; all run by Hello Kitty’s friends. In the food court you can work in various jobs to earn Puro (the in-game currency), and play more mini-games based on the shop you choose to work in. You can then use the Puro you’ve earned to purchase goods to decorate your room and visit Hello Kitty’s friends in the various shops.”

Loving Life with Hello Kitty & Friends doesn’t have an official release date yet, either in the U.S. or in Europe.

  • Naruto + Hello Kitty in the same article, reminds me of one of my favorite Naruto x Sasuke fan arts.

Its good to know at least one publisher is still bringing out DS games this year.

    • shy_mel

That sounds like some disturbing fan art.

      • I thought it was pretty cool, certainly memorable, and stunning (that Naruto!!!)

        • Ren

Never worry about acting queer Siliconera users, because Trist will always outgay you!

Hmm, this sounded far less prejudicial in my mind. Oh well, only overly prejudicial people would be offended by that anyway.

          • Zero_Destiny

lol Oh my God I just laughed so hard I made everyone else in my house yell at me. Oh man Ren I don’t know what I’d do without your dry-sense of humor. Truly this comment is the most hilarious thing I’ve seen in days. :D Keep up the good work I can’t wait for your next replay to Sawada’s post.

          • You dont like that awesome Naruto? Some reason the belt was an awesome addition, lolol.

          • Ren

The art style wasn’t much for my tastes and the belt kinda clashed with the clothes, and not in a good way. Decent picture and far better anything I’ll ever be able to draw, but not up to my tastes. Besides, I think showy midriff only work with women or very feminine fellows.

  • M’iau M’iaut

So this is another one developed by If/Compile Heart?

    • I believe this is the one. I heard Compile Heart was licensing it earlier too, so I’m betting on that.

      • M’iau M’iaut

I picked up Hello Kitty Party just cuz I saw their logos. Always interesting when companies do things a bit out of script. Like with Cave and Princess Debut.

        • Joanna

The Cave? The one that makes all those 360 bullet hell games? If that’s the one, well I am genuinely surprised. I guess their new VN direction isn’t so much of a new direction after all. xD

  • Yusaku_Matsuda70s

Screw Catherine. It’s far more dangerous to cheat on Hello Kitty.

You know why she never opens her mouth? That’s because it’s lined with razor sharp chainsaw teeth made with childen’s bones over a demon tentacle tongue and a black hole throat. No one has seen it… and lived to tell the tale. Love Life with Kitty… or else!!

    • SolidusSnake

Damn I think you just sold me on this one Yusaku. Sounds even better than Madoka Magica!

      Day one babeeeeeeeeey!!!!11

      • Yusaku_Matsuda70s

Auuugghh I have failed to scare people away!!!

Disclaimer: Yusaku Matusada is not responsible for the horrendous and gruesome deaths of Siliconera members who have unwittingly purchased the DS game Loving Life with Hello Kitty & Friends as a form of naive thrill-seeking.

    • Ren

This could make great but horriffying blowing jokes.

      • Yusaku_Matsuda70s

        Ever seen the movie Teeth?

        • Uh oh, we’re treading into dangerous grounds here XD

          • Yusaku_Matsuda70s

I was think about that… uh… yea totally off topic on the deep end.

So um… aaah… eh… Hey I–I can’t wait to earn some–whatsit again, oh right–PUROZ in this game. Mm hmm, yes gonna earn me some Puros to buy me some furniture day one…

            (Sorry Ishaan >_< )

        • Ren

Hmm, now that I think about, Vagina Dentata does sound rather melodical. It would be fun to get game named after it. Even better if we got a EXEC_VAGINA_DENTATA/.

  • Wackoramaco87

A little curious about this game, but to be completely honest, mostly “wtf”. =D

  • kylehyde

Talking about DS, I can’t believe that Atlus is going to publish this title instead of Super Robot Taisen OG Saga: Endless Frontier EXCEED, what happened with Atlus that was not afraid of taking risk, oh yeah index holding.

    • The very few people that do actually care about Super Robot Wars OG Saga are most likely hunting around for a fan-translated ROM, regardless of whether or not it’s being localized. :p

      • Tom_Phoenix

Still, it would have been nice if there was an official localisation. If nothing else, I would have loved to play Lord of Elemental in English.

Oh well, I guess all we can do is hope that they might decide to localise OG3, whenever that comes out.

        • kylehyde

I’m glad that somebody get what I mean.

        • Indeed man, the OG games need more love. ;__;

          • If only @NamcoBandai would give D3 Publisher the keys to @superrobotwars’ international release, then we’ll have more OG games to cherish… in English.

      • Croix

“very few people that do actually care”

Hey! That’s…well, pretty accurate, really. And Super Robot Wars is a legal nightmare to localize with the vast number of involved intellectual properties involved (not that it’s stopped other projects).

        • He was talking about OG Saga: Exceed, though. There are no other companies and their rightful series involved, except for maybe Xenosaga.

      • Phoenix_Apollo

I’d just like to say that I’m not. I’d love to see the sequel to come over here in English, but I’m not going to resort to petty methods like that to fulfill that desire.

    • Pichi

Had the same reaction as well. Also like to add Luminous Arc 3 as well. But I guess its “safer” if they think kids will buy more than the other demographics will for other games.

    • Or Luminous Arc 3 -.-…

      • jarrodand

        I still want Yggdra Unison. ;_;

        • Joanna

And Blaze Union….I miss old Atlus. T^T

I’m happy about Catherine, but I can’t help but feel a little let down by all these lovely games stuck in Japan.

      • Joanna

I’m going to look into a fan translation, but I would love to have it in english and sitting on my self. Gah, WildArms, you made me remember what’s missing in my life. :'(

        • haha sorry T_T, but at least you are not the only one suffering D:

  • Oh phew, i was getting worried, all ages then ESRB?, thank god.

I was scared i couldn’t play this game

    • Ren

How would a M rated Hello Kitty actually be? Hello Nurse? Actually, forget I asked that.

  • AQuatermain

    They bring this instead of Super Robot Taisen OG Saga: Endless Frontier EXCEED o Luminous Arc 3: Eyes? Oh my god ;_;

  • Hours

I love Hello Kitty as much as the next person, but I still am not a fan of this new direction Atlus is taking.

It would be cool if they were publishing this mass market appealing games to supplement the release of more niche titles, but they aren’t doing that anymore. Where are Luminous Arc 3 and Growlanser PSP?

    • You don’t think the fact that they sicced four translators on Radiant Historia to bring it out three months after its Japanese release and Catherine, five months after Japanese release, is a big deal?

Would you rather they’d brought over Luminous Arc 3 and let Radiant Historia be for another six months, by which point releasing an original RPG on the DS may even no longer be financially viable? Companies need to have priorities, you know.

      • Pichi

But with that scenario, both games would come over. With how things come today, LA3 is left in the dust.

I heard that Nintendo would still support DS games, and if that’s true, it might have still been viable for other companies to still bring DS games over in that time. Radiant Historia would have been a bit late, but it still would have come out, and LA3 would have came as well.

        • Yea, both games would come over, but no one would buy LA3, and people would lose interest in Radiant Historia over the course of a whole year while waiting for it to finally get localized.

Nintendo are bringing out DS games, yes, but they’re Nintendo. Also, they’re bringing out games that they hope will catch the attention of the wider audience (Inazuma in Europe, maybe we’ll see Layton 4, too). You don’t see them rushing to release games like Soma Bringer or Jet Impulse. :p

          • Pichi

But didn’t the first two sell well? If they would have kept the momentum going, the fanbase would still buy it. And yikes, I can’t imagine Radiant Historia to last that long. I can’t think of any Atlus made games being that long bring out. Has there every been an Atlus made game that took long and still held out interest?

Hey, don’t jinx it! Still waiting for the second Fire Emblem DS game! I swear, if that doesn’t come out, I’ll be very bitter again!

I guess now its over, sadly. I still want to believe they’ll come, but at this point, its probably too late. Hope at least Marvelous thinks of porting LA3 like they are doing with Half-Minute Hero.

        • This is not a statement by Atlus or referring to them in anyway, but from speaking with many company decision makers I keep hearing the same song – the DS market in the US plummeted.

This may be a key reason why a number of games never made it out stateside.

          • To add, from my discussions and various data inputs I’ve been provided from people in the UK and Australia, it’s really bad.

As in so bad, that places are refusing to stock any sort of back catalog for DS titles because they don’t expect the stock to actually MOVE. Will it change with the 3DS? We’ll have to see.

Then again, in Australia, the PSP is very much a diminished market, to the point of ‘Uh, does it actually exist?’. When you can name a major retailer or two eliminating the section for any new product, you’re in trouble.

So yes, there’s been a trending (At least in the non Asian markets) of handheld titles moving poorly. It might feed itself, but it’s one of those things – people need to make money (and enough of it), and they’ll pick titles which they believe will make that money. Their staff need to eat too, and their shareholders expect their profits, after all.

(If you’re curious about the calculations on the sorts of returns required, here’s something to consider apart from the usual cost evaluations – Games don’t make any money until they’re completed, copies printed, and sales commence (which can be a 6-15 month time frame on average). You’re going to have to borrow the money to finance this initially. Try finding out the interest rate on borrowing as a business sometime.)

          • Pichi

That’s saddens me that this might be the reason for no more DS games and PSP games as well. Most likely due to piracy, I guess. If its not a big name game, chances are its not going to sell to its potential.

I can only hope that the next generation of handhelds can get better about this when late in their cycles.

  • Guest

Happy Party had many references to adult material and hidden messages :0

  • Phoenix_Apollo

Oh god, Atlus. This amuses me greatly. I really want to see how the meetings for this game go.

  • Still waiting for Hello Kitty: Silent Assassin.
