The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time 3D To Include Master Quest Version

As one of the most memorable games of its generation, The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time has been re-released a couple times in various forms. One of these re-releases was on a collector’s disc for the Gamecube, which contained an “enhanced” version of the game called Ocarina of Time: Master Quest.

Originally intended to be an expansion to Ocarina of Time on the Nintendo 64DD hardware, Ocarina of Time: Master Quest contains redesigned and more challenging dungeons, and other changes to the game.

In a recent interview with Conservative New Media at the Game Developers Conference last week, a Nintendo representative confirmed that Ocarina of Time 3D for the Nintendo 3DS will include the Master Quest version of the game as well. Judging by the wording, Ocarina of Time 3D will contain both versions of the game.

While Ocarina of Time 3D doesn’t have a concrete release date, Nintendo president, Satoru Iwata, stated at GDC that the game would release sometime in June.

  • the game does look amazing in comparison to the N64 version

    • Chow

Hey, hear that everyone? He’s badmouthing the N64!

      Get ‘im!

      • OBJECTION!
N64 version, My client is not talking about the console itself!

Discracting the court’s point of view will not help you Chow! I AM a Lawyer, AND i GO FOR THE TRUTH!, EVEN IF IS A TRUTH NOBODY WANTS! Nothing will stop me from walking my own road!

I belive in Zonron, and i know he is Innocent!

        • Best AA song to kick ass in the court is obviously this:

My head exploded from the awesome as this song started to kick in at the end of AA3. I directly was “OMG, that’s the one from the first game!!!!” xD

          • Rofl xD i randomly got the first one i found in youtub, and i was like, OMG this is the one that always sounds when phoenix makes an objection and starts pwning the prosecutor xD

    • On top of the graphics boost, it is really nice and smooth in motion. I got to play it at GDC and couldn’t find anything major to criticize. Hopefully the slide pad will bring back anyone who got burned trying to play Mario 64 DS, as it feels really nice.

  • dear nintendo:
    i love you again
you abandoned me for years with the ds/wii, but you’re back now and thats all that matters

    • Zero_Destiny

The DS was one of my all time fav systems and the Wii was pretty good. I don’t know how they abandoned you but all that matters is you’ve seen the errors of your way and have come back into the light. :) Zelda 3DS is just that awesome I guess.

    • thebanditking

I completely understand your Wii complaint as I feel the same about it, but DS while underpowered was definitely a real game console when you are talking software and as usual was the platform Nintendo supported the best.

  • Even more excited for this now! I’ve never played Master Quest before so not only do I get to play OoT in 3D but also get Master Quest with it! Glad I preordered this the other day!

Edit: Went to playasia after seeing the preliminary artbox image as a related link, god I hope they keep that cover. It’s so awesome! Link lookin at his finest!

    • BoxArt looks, well, like it needs to be toned down…too bold.

      • Zero_Destiny

That boxart is the stuff of Dreams XD Besides what are you complaining about it’s got a blond boy with pierced ears fiercely staring at you. Seems perfect for you. lol

        • thebanditking

Not for nothing but isn’t that pic play asia is using the one Namco drew for SoulCalibur 2?

          • It is.

          • Zero_Destiny

            I still like it. :)

      • That’s just how oldschool awesomeness works~
Just ignore it or love it like I do. :D

      • thebanditking

I was actually hoping for some new art, but likely won’t get any. I will say this though the pic of Link playing his ocarina sitting on the bricks would make a nice box imo. for reference:

        • I also love the one that is in the instruction booklet, i think it was at the end, the one that young link is sitting with young Zelda :3

          • thebanditking

Yeah I can’t explain it I just love the OoT art work (makes me mad Nintendo is so reluctant to put out collected works). It reminds me of some of my favorite Anime, like Record of Lodoss War, Arc the Lad and the 90’s era Camelot and Overworks Shining games (what I wouldn’t give for a return to those types of styles) along with Alundra, Dark Savior and LandStalker….

            For reference again

  • Well of all the places, a Conservative media outlet…I guess. I heard that Master Quest was the most difficult product Nintendo ever designed and that only the upper echelon of hardcore videogame enthusiasts could even get halfway through it…so Im worried about it…

    • most difficuly nintendo product?

      go play some nes games

      • Zero_Destiny

There Ninten-HARD!!!! for a reason. :) *Pats self on the back for lame internet slang usage* lol

    • Ummm, no, I wouldn’t say that at all. I played through Master Quest on Gamecube, and I don’t have any memories of it standing out as being particularly difficult.

Even if it were to prove too hard for some, there’s always the option to play the original version on the same cart.

  • Suicunesol

Best of both worlds. Pleasant surprise.

  • Zero_Destiny

I’m so happy. This game just looks better and better. I can’t wait to yell at the top of my lungs during the water temple. lol JK Master Quest is a nice bonus. Thank you Nintendo, you don’t disappoint. :D

  • thebanditking

Well this is a pleasant surprise, actually makes this a bit more inciting (even if I do own both of the Zelda Collections on Gamecube). Does anyone know if this release will feature an enhanced/remixed OST? The N64 was not exactly the best for audio quality and I would love to hear these tunes beefed up a bit. On that note how is the sound quality on the 3DS compared to the PSP (how about it Ishann?)

    • Suicunesol

I really do hope they use an enhanced or arranged soundtrack, even if it’s an already existing one. While the original tracks on the N64 will always remain special to me, their quality is too dated for 2011.

      • Joanna

If they are upgrading the graphics why would they leave the sound untouched? Seems odd. Of course, they could always do that, but I would certainly find it odd that they would upgrade one aspect of the presentation (graphics) and not the other (sound).

  • darkfox1

what is the difference with the master quest version? i Only played the original OOT

    • Phlo

Puzzles were altered to be a lot harder, and combat difficulty was also increased.

Oh, and Jabu-Jabu’s belly is…no, I’m not going to ruin the surprise.

  • AdamBoy64

I’m still hoping for some new content.. looking less likely though.
Not enough for me personally to go out and buy a 3DS, but I’m sure it’ll sell well.

    • thebanditking

Yeah I feel the same way, still Im sure when I do get a 3DS I will pick this up for the nostalgia alone.

  • Natat

Aww yeah! Master Quest is all the confirmation needed for me to get this game for sure! DEIII WAN BAYBEE!

  • I hate every person that has played this game before me… T-T

    • Zero_Destiny

No WildArms hates me? :( I can’t go on living knowing that. ;_; So sad

      • The only way for me to stop hating you is that you fing a way to erase memories, and erase those.

Also, if you find a method, tell me all about it, because i would like to erease some game’s memories so i can replay them and enjoy them like it was the first time xD

        • But if he would have a way to erase memories and tell you them, he wouldn’t have any other choice, but to erase them again, as it is a top secret project. :/

Lol, erase the memories of a way to erase memories, dude that sounds stupid, even for my standards. xD

  • Day one or not, that’s the question ! :) Show us more bonusesssssss Nintendo, thank u.

  • Lord Highawesomeparty

I’ve never really played the Zelda series aside from parts of WindWaker and Twilight Princess. Would this be a good place to start playing? From what I’ve read this is supposedly one of the best games ever so I’d assume it is.

    • lurkingsalt

Back in the early 90’s people would call Super Mario Bros, the best game ever. OOT might hold up well but it’s not going to surpass most games that came after it. People that experienced it back then it was released will always leaned towards it being the best Zelda. If you have never played it I think you’ll enjoy it, but not praise it so highly I think.

    • [email protected][email protected][email protected]@@ This is the root of those games you played, this is the root of it all, those games came from this game’s seed!!.

If you dont play it you wont be able to live a fulfilling life!!!!.

    • Suicunesol

No, Ocarina of Time sucks. *lowers expectations so you won’t be disappointed*

  • Tokyo Guy

How I would love to go back in time to when I first played this game…I can’t even begin to recount how excited I was; funny how things have changed so much (presumably from growing up?)

Anyway, while I think the game looks infinitely better than the original version, it still irks me that Nintendo is porting this game yet again as opposed to making a new one. Why can’t we have a new Zelda title for the 3DS instead? And I hate to say it but it’s probable the 2D installments have truly come to an end. This is why I have lamented the surge of the “modern” portable, because it ensured the death of Nintendo’s 2D legacy…
