By Spencer . March 16, 2011 . 2:08pm

adolNippon Ichi and Falcom teamed up to bring characters from Ys, The Legend of Heroes: Trails in the Sky, and The Legend of Heroes: Zero no Kiseki into their retro dungeon crawler sequel ClaDun 2. Dengeki Online posted a first look at these crossover cameos. That’s Adol star of the Ys games on the right.

Pictures of his traveling buddy Dogi and Lillia from Ys II are below.

Hey, its Estelle and Joshua Bright from the upcoming PSP game The Legend of Heroes: Trails in the Sky.

Lloyd and Tio from Zero no Kiseki are in ClaDun 2 as well, but Ellie, one of the main characters, didn’t make the cut?

Dengeki also has pictures of characters from P.S. Three-san (called PS Triple outside of Japan), a manga series with console mascots, Phantom Breaker characters, and voice actress/singer Akiko Hasegawa. Players will be able to get pixel art models for all these guests to use in the PSP game.

    Where’s Kratos

      Dogi crushed his wall D:

    • behind mario

    • In mortal kombat, with the cool guys.

  • As big of a fan as I am of Ys and Sora no Kiseki/Dragon Slayer (that is, a BIG fan), it’s a little disappointing to see Falcom pushing their many other exceptional franchises to the wayside as of late. Seeing how well they were able to modernize Brandish and Vantage Master on the PSP makes me wonder how modern-day renditions of games like Sorcerian and Popful Mail would turn out. I don’t recall that they’ve made one since Gurumin was released almost 7 years ago.

Still, I guess this is a better way for them to make money than those awful ports of their PC games that they used to let other companies make.

  • Zero_Destiny

Yeah but can this Adol bump’em dead?! :P Love all the cameos please bring the game to America with the cameos in tact.

    • Ladius

I hope they do, but if they managed to keep the Dengeki cameos in ZHP I can’t see them removing the Falcom ones from Cladun 2.

I don’t know if NiSA and XSeed are best buddies (they should! both are awesome and nerdy!) or not, but having Falcom fans buy Cladun 2 and NiSA fans know about Ys and Trails while playing it seems really nice to me.

  • Ladius

I love how those little (budget wise) jrpg developers are combining their strenghts in multiple cross-over projects, cameos and the like.

It gives the impression of a warm, friendly sector of the gaming industry filled with people who love this genre and actually play other companies’ games.

    • Yeah, rather than looking at each other like enemies on the economic war, they are more like allies in this crushing heart economic war. They know they are on the same “train” together xD.

      • Ladius

Yeah, I love how companies like NiS, Gust, IFCH, Red, 5pb and Falcom are handling their collaborations.

Having cameos is a great way to cross-pollinate each fanbase, and I would really like to see some uber-crossover with Dogi, Etna, Pamela, Estelle, Olivier, Flonne, Prinny, Annie, Meu, Hiro, Kurisu, Seira-tan and the likes (Adol would be particularly awesome if his dialogues were handled by a narrator XD)

    • Agreed. Plus it’s great for the fans too!

      • Ladius

Definitely so :) BTW I’m currently having a blast with Neptunia’s jokes and references to the gaming industry, it’s refreshingly nerdy XD

        • Oh, me too. It’s quite witty and I love references to things like death flags.

I NEVER buy DLC for games, but I bought Gust and Nisa because they were just so adorable and I couldn’t resist. Now I always use Gust when roaming the dungeons, because she’s the most precious little thing ever. Cute overload. XD

          • Ladius

Gust is awesome, there are some unlockables cutscenes related to her scams that are simply lollerific XD Also, she is the cutest alchemist scammer ever XD

          • Absolutely. She’s so cute and funny that the scamming is okay. You’re paying for adorability and giggles!

    • malek86

For a while, yeah. But after some time it might get tiring, for example if every single game had an Etna cameo, it would cheapen the effect.

Cross-overs are also risky projects, because they usually end up being trapped by their own fanservice. There is only so much you can do in a story where you have to use many different characters with already defined personalities, instead of creating them from scratch.

  • Whoa whoa whoa…

Lilia is doing something OTHER than getting kidnapped?

This game has made the impossible possible.

  • No Popful Mail?
