Level 5 To Discuss 20 Titles At Vision 2011 Event

By Ishaan . March 18, 2011 . 10:55am

If you aren’t familiar with Level 5’s annual “Vision” event by now, it’s where the company details its plans for the year ahead, accompanied by a presentation hosted by their CEO, Akihiro Hino.

Vision 2010, held last year, was big news all around, as Level 5 announced a whole slew of Nintendo 3DS titles, such as Time Travellers, Fantasy Life and Professor Layton vs. Ace Attorney. While ten titles were discussed in total at Vision 2010, this year’s event sounds like it might be even bigger.

Speaking with Nikkei Trendy Net, Hino revealed that this year’s Vision event will be held “around August.” Level 5 plan to talk about around 20 titles at Vision 2011. Hino also promised that one could expect to see some sort of a “surprise announcement” that reaches outside the boundaries of the games industry.

Nikkei Trendy’s interviewer asked if this meant something like Level 5’s collaboration with Studio Ghibli on Ni no Kuni, and Hino replied, yes, something of that sort.

In before Dark Cloud 3 comments.

  • HarryHodd

    No No Kuni PS3!

    • Yusaku_Matsuda70s

They’ve gone real low-key with that title. I sure hope they’re polishing it up for release in Japan soon. The faster Japan gets it, the faster it gets to us hungry gaijin peasants.

      • HarryHodd

Us hungry gaijin peasants are hungry!!

  • Zero_Destiny

Oh man please tell me the surprise announcement will be Dragon Quest X!!! :D I wonder if they can even announce it or not though? Oh well I can dream. :)

    • Not a chance in hell. He says that the collaboration is outside the boundaries of the games industry. :p

      • Zero_Destiny

Ishaan!!! You crushed my dream!!!!! :( lol I’ll just keep waiting then. Oh well Level-5 has a lot of cool games coming up. Should still be a fun event. I’m really interested in Fantasy Life and of course the Layton/Phoenix Wright game.

        • DQ X could still happen though. Hino did mention that they would have “around 20 titles” to show off, so they could just be holding that one back because they want everyone to feed on this whole Studio Ghibli bit.

          • Zero_Destiny

Could still happen? I think you mean WILL still happen. lol (Though the developer is still up for debate. I still think it’ll most likely be Level-5) But my dream of seeing it sooner rather than later is crushed. :( Will have to go back into the corner now and wait for more information about it to creak in.

          • It WONT happen. Level 5 only programs Dragon Quest VIII, IX and maybe X. People seem to forget that Yuji Horii and his company(Armor Project) do the creative work for DQI-X.

          • Zero_Destiny

*Sigh* I would never forget about Mr.Horii. I wrote a huge review summarizing his work:
He is one of my most important and looked up to figures in video games. Your comment insulted me. Just because I think Level-5 (who has a close relationship to SE and has made the last two games) are going to make this one (and yes other process do involved with making a game besides programming but guess what without programming all you got is some art and some stories.) are going to make the next one you very stupidly assume of me not knowing about the original creator of Dragon. tsk tsk. I’m sorry if I sound mean and boasty but going back and seeing these comment just really upsetted me. Seriously stop assuming so much.

      • Yeah, that comment was very interesting. Could he be referring to anime project featuring one/some of the characters from the Level-5 stable? That could be interesting, depending on the series that they pick.

        • I could see Layton getting its own anime series…the detective thing fits right in. But no, my gut (yea, don’t ask) says this isn’t something that simple. Level 5 have their hands in a lot of pies. Like, one they thing they do is motion-capture work for other studios. They have their own mocap studio, which is kind of amazing to me, considering these guys were nobodies just a few years ago…

    • An anime for DQ X, maybe

      • Zero_Destiny

Well maybe but it’s not even made yet and we haven’t seen like a single screen. But an anime to promote it like the Blue Dragon anime. That would be cool. We haven’t had a Dragon Quest anime since like 1996 if I remember right.

  • Please announce Ushiro Level-5.

  • badmoogle

Hope they announce Ni no kuni PS3 for the west!

    • Yusaku_Matsuda70s

I’d like that as much as you but it wouldn’t make any sense to announce one of their titles for the west at a Japanese event. If they do it’ll be at E3 or one of Sony’s international conferences.

      • badmoogle

Sadly you are right…But as far as i remember Level 5 usually keeps a low profile at E3’s.Perhaps as you say they will do so at a Sony event.

  • Pichi

Uh…that just sounds like so much. I hope they don’t over extend themselves. Nevertheless, I look forward to their announcements and hope for Dark Cloud 3.

  • Please be True Fantasy Live Online, Dark Cloud 3 and Rogue Galaxy II and I’ll be keep quiet for the rest of the year.

    • Dark Cloud is a Sony property. Level 5 have no control over it whatsoever.

      • kidhyuga

        Noooooooooooooooooooo. that sucks.

  • DarkWaterClone

I hope for some new on Ushiro for the NGP. Plus I would enjoy a sequel for Jeanne d’Arc on the NGP too. Also does Nintendo co-own the Professor Layton IP with Level 5 or just L5. If L5 only owns it I hope to see a Professor Layton game come out on the NGP.

I hope to see some new IPs. I also would really enjoy L5 to revive True Fantasy Live Online. I know Sony own the Dark Cloud IP. But I still would like to see a new version of that series. So I hope Sony allows L5 to show a new one soon.

  • Saraneth

I’m looking forward to Time Travelers. I’ve played Radiant Historia and Chrono Trigger on the DS and liked them. Something about time travel seems to inspire writers to be creative.

  • liamscanlan

Hino said the announcement was “outside the boundaries of the gaming industry”.

I guess they’ll pull a Inazuma Eleven/Little Battlers and announce a Fantasy Life anime.

  • Wackoramaco87

I would lovelovelove to see them revive Ushiro- it looked like such a promising title! As for everything else, I’m curious to see what they will be planning.

  • kidhyuga

    • badmoogle

Why a remake and not a new game?

      • kidhyuga

well i dont know. i personally liked the first dark could but the second one didn’t appeal to me.

  • puchinri

That sounds exciting. I look forward to what they’re going to announce, and very curious about their collaboration. Maybe a movie on the scale of Welcome to the Space Show. Just more ridiculous, more creativity, more awesome. Although they didn’t specifically say it was a collaboration either, did they?

(And just curious, is (still) true that Prof. Layton vs Gyakuten Saiban isn’t getting localized at all?)

    • No one said it isn’t getting localized…

      • puchinri

Someone said that Takumi said it wouldn’t be localized, but I can’t remember which site I read that on. But that’s a relief.

  • PrinceHeir

“Hino also promised that one could expect to see some sort of a “surprise announcement” that reaches outside the boundaries of the games industry.”

Dragon Quest X being handled by them or Nino Kuni for western release please :P

    • … No offense but you do realize “outside the boundaries of the games industry” means it’s probably not a game announcement, right?

      • PrinceHeir

well maybe a new ova of some sort of their current projects?

oh well i still look forward to they’re 20 games line up

        • I’m guessing that if it is related to one of their current projects, then it might be a Ni no Kuni anime production. That’s most likely not it though, but I’d expect the announcement to be something at level.

  • TNA_Lewis

    1. The title is misleading; it’s 20 announcements, not 20 titles.
    2. By “branching outside the game industry”, I have a theory they may be producing movies and other media. The Inazuma Eleven anime and the Professor Layton movie were both mild successes, and they have shown interest in making more of them. There are already 3 Layton books out, too.
    3. AWESOME.

    • Are they really announcements? I thought it could just be they have 20 different properties there to discuss both already announced and unannounced? known and unknown?

      • TNA_Lewis

By 20 titles, it can basically mean 20 new games. By announcements, they can be pertaining to new information about an already announced game, or just a new game entirely.

  • Twenty titles? Well since its Level 5 they are bound to be at least decent. Now its just the case of waiting to a) see what they are and b) actuually wait for them to be released :D

  • Please be Dark CLoud 3..

  • Joanna

I hope it’s more info on Time Travelers, Fantasy Life, the Professor Layton x Gyakuten Saiben, and Ushiro. And a few new announcements.
