A Closer Look At The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time 3D With New Screens

By Ishaan . April 14, 2011 . 4:06pm

Following yesterday’s release date announcement, Nintendo have released a new batch of screens for The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time 3D. Perhaps the most noticeable change is that the game’s colours look more saturated than the original Nintendo 64 version.

They also released this very nice piece of concept art:

There is a visual improvement there.. but I don’t know.. just doesn’t seem like much.

I originally thought this port might have been a game showcasing the 3DS power.. I sure hope it’s not.

    • Exkaiser

      It isn’t.

The 3DS is most likely powerful enough to run graphics of Twilight Princess calibur, but they’re not pushing the hardware on this one.

Still, it is a definite improvement on the 64 version, and it’s much more noticeable on things like the King Dodongo (Star Fox 64’s bosses also got huge improvements, from what we’ve seen). Also, well, the characters look more alive- they always came off as creepy and dead-eyed on the 64.

    the day i get a 3DS

    • Vino (Tim N)

Same here. I have like all the different variations of DS. But haven’t felt the need for the 3DS yet. But the handful of games that are coming out throughout the year will make me get one.

  • Zero_Destiny

Looks nice. Summer should be great. I may be asking for too much but I hope we get a bundle for this. Even if it’s just an in-store buy 3DS and get Zelda free. Because yes, if so I’ll cave in and get one right away. That is assuming I can save up my money for the next two months.

Ishaan,You better be doing something about Kingdom Hearts 3DS or…

    • Oh, I’m super-excited for KH3D. We just haven’t covered any of the launch stuff because everyone else is already doing it. There was tons of other news aside from 3DS that needed our attention, too. We’ll be starting playtests soon and we’ll treat it like any other system after that. :)

Interviews and stuff, too. All that will come, just needs the right timing!

      • joesz

I just hope that we will get a release date for this year:)

Please,no January or June of the next year:(

        • I sorta doubt it’s coming this year. I mean, they already have Agito XIII and XIII-2 planned for this year in Japan…which means they could save KH3D for next year. And we aren’t likely to get it before Japan does, so…

          • joesz

Well, I usually go Japanese in games,so to be,honest.

I though you were doing the sameO_o

    • Didn’t Nomura say something along the lines of “please don’t think about Kingdom Hearts 3D for a long while”?

      • KHSoraKeyBlade

No that was Versus XIII. I think he said you’re getting Type-0 and XIII-2 this year so just be patient for Versus. Of course I just want Versus out so they can get cracking on KHIII :P though Versus does look like a good game as well xD

  • Still has the faint whiff of N64 about it, but it looks alright, I suppose. Not to be the comment pessimist, but I was hoping for something more…substantial if they ever planned to remake this game. Not that I don’t plan to buy it, mind you. It’s still a vast improvement.

    • Nah, I’m with you hear. Given how awesome the 3DS Resident Evil looks, and the fact that this is Nintendo’s baby and a game on their own hardware… this looks kinda crappy.

      • puchinri

I like the look. It has a nostalgia factor. When they make a new LoZ for 3DS, then it had better look good.

      • AdamBoy64

Yeah, I was in the boat of expecting Nintendo to do more.
Perhaps in my mind when I first heard of it I was thinking of something like OoT running off the TP engine.

That would have been very impressive. These visuals are.. short of impressive.
Some new content would be great, but I don’t see that happening..

        • GVmanX

They’re saving the magnificent graphics for the 3DS port of Majora’s Mask.

          At least, they better be.

  • Caligula

Looks pretty good. I still have my N64 cartridge in good working condition, but I’ll definitely be picking this up nonetheless.

  • Aiddon

    good times

  • Hmm, I don’t know
Definitely better than N64, but it feels like it can do better…

  • eilegz

its just a port a little polish and less jaggies but nothing that special.

  • Man, June is going to be one hell of a month for me. Between this and E3 I don’t know what will be better.

  • I’m pretty sure I’ve seen that concept art before this was even announced… Hmm… :/

  • Nice images. They look a bit more crisp and clearer from the N64 version.

  • mine is preordered :)

  • GVmanX

    ….I want a 3DS now.
