By Ishaan . April 14, 2011 . 5:38pm

It’s that time of the month again! The NPD Group just released U.S. software sales data for the month of March 2011, and Pokémon White and Pokémon Black both grabbed two of the top spots in the top-ten chart.

Previous reports from Nintendo of America revealed that Pokémon Black/White collectively crossed the 2 million mark in two weeks. A more recent report from Nintendo reveals that Black/White sold over 2.5 million units combined in March, with White accounting for over 1.3 million and Black for over 1.1 million.

Additionally, while the NPD Group didn’t provide sales data, they revealed that Super Street Fighter IV 3D Edition was the best-selling Nintendo 3DS game in March. Capcom have shipped 1 million copies of the game worldwide so far.

Well Orange Islands had the epic Pikachu versus Dragonite battle, which was fantastic. Anyway, cant believe no 3DS title made the top of the list considering it sold just under 400K units. I cant wait to see what happens for April.

Oh and White, need to start on that.

    • joesz

Why did you buy the white version? Just asking.

      • http://tristsantithesis.tumblr.com/ Tsunayoshi Sawada

        Braviary! Braviary looks epic!

        • joesz

Oh! I see.I thought you were going to say something about the legendary ones

          • http://tristsantithesis.tumblr.com/ Tsunayoshi Sawada

The legendaries just look terrible this gen., Actually the only legendaries that looked good have been Black Rayquaza, Deoxys, Make a Wish Jirachi, Lugia and Ho-Oh. Zekrom just looks the least terrible for the two.

          • joesz

The only ones that looked legit were Lugia and Ho-oh IMO.

      • Aara_Malik_Davoodi

I bought it because the black legendary looked cooler imo. Nearly everyone I’ve talked to who didn’t choose one randomly cited that as their reason, too

        • joesz

I was struck between the 2 but at the end I’ve ended up buying black.

But first thing on my mind was white:)

        • Joanna

Yeah, I’ve heard that too from a few people. Personally I prefer Reshiram to Zekrom, so I went with Black. :3

      • Zero_Destiny

I bought it because White’s my fav color and because I always have a tradition of buying the second game (So Sapphire, Pearl, Silver, etc) and my bro always bought the first.

  • Zefux

    “Gotta catch ‘em all.”

    Definitely working!

Oh, Johto Journeys (OP3) is definitely the best English Pokemon OP ever made!

    • http://tristsantithesis.tumblr.com/ Tsunayoshi Sawada

I love Johto Journeys, but Master Quest is my favorite

Im on a Master, Master Quest!!!!!!!!!!!1 love that echo!

Wow, good to know the Pokemon fandom hasn’t dwindled over the years

    • http://thrust-the-sky.deviantart.com/ WildArms

      i think is stronger

    • Tropxe

      There’ll always be children.

      • Joanna

Maybe that’s true, but I think these numbers show what a lot of people have been saying, a lot of older fans have come back into the fold. Also, there is a good sized group of older fans too, so I don’t think it’s just children keeping Pokemon alive. Sites that deal with EVs and movesets that get quite a lot of forum activity like Serebii are proof of that. We’re proof of that. :)

That’s the curious thing about video games, unlike children’s toys like Barbies and race cars, they are far more versatile and can be enjoyed by a wider age range. Even ones clearly marketed at children like Cooking Mama, Pokemon, Animal Crossing, and arguably Harvest Moon are enjoyed by teens and adults.

I knew I wouldn’t find Yakuza 4 on that list : ( . I hope that it did/will sell enough to make it profitable for Sega.

  • Draparde

i figured i’d randomly post my favorite pokemon: Gardevoir, Blaziken, Meloetta, hmm….i think that’s it for my top favorite list. thank you for reading Drapardes corner…have a nice day/night!

    • Zero_Destiny

Let’s see from Top to Bottom my fav three are always Charmander, Cyndaquil, and Skarmory. ^_^ Yep I’m cool like that.

      • Draparde

Can’t go wrong with charmander thats for sure:O

  • Pichi

Pokemon still smashing records. Knew it was a fad. It’ll be here to stay.

    • Joanna

“Knew it was a fad. It’ll be here to stay.” ?
….does not compute. Or did you mean wasn’t a fad? That would make more sense. xD

  • RagnaXBL

Pokemon White sold more than Pokemon Black

  • http://twitter.com/TimeSage Kevin Lazar

White outsold Black? That’s a surprise

    • Pichi

Not too surprised, seeing as how I heard many preferred the legendary on White more so than Black.

  • SDDMN

I picked White because I thought Zekrom as a lightning/dragon type was more kickass than Reshiram as a fire/dragon type. Who else here knows of a dragon that uses lightning?
