Final Fantasy VI Moogle Slamming Virtual Console In North America

By Spencer . April 16, 2011 . 8:35am

ff3dJapan already has Final Fantasy VI on Virtual Console and next week the slam-dancing moogle Mog will appear on PlayStation Network. What about North America? Don’t worry, Final Fantasy VI is coming to Virtual Console under its original name in the States, Final Fantasy III.

The ESRB inspected Final Fantasy III and spoiled key events like "a jailed character getting punched and a woman throwing herself off a cliff." Yep, that sounds like Final Fantasy VI… um… Final Fantasy III, the one that doesn’t have Onion Knights.

A release date has not been announced, but since Final Fantasy III was rated for Wii it should appear on Virtual Console in the near future.

  • Aww, just the US SNES version, complete with the wrong naming. :s

    • On the upside, it has the best sounding music of the three versions produced to date. And since it also has my favorite video game score ever, that’s significant far as I’m concerned.

  • Roto13

Finally. I’ve been waiting for this. Here’s hoping it comes out on Monday.

  • Finally.

  • Needs a psp remake….. III & V too.

  • KyoyaHibari

We need 3D remakes of of the first 6 games, Im not talking kiddy DS remakes Im talking real ones on PSP or PS3 for that matter

    • Would bankrupt them.

      • neo_firenze

Nah, I think they’d make more money recycling the classics some more than with some of the stuff they’re up to these days.

      • doomspeller10

Remaking is a much safer approach than spending millions in failures such as FFXIV, and makes more people happy.

        • kupomogli

“Remaking is a much safer approach than spending millions in failures such as FFXIII and FFXIV and makes more people happy.”

          Fixed ^_^

        • KyoyaHibari

Exactly my point, with all the screw ups SE has had recently, they need to go back to basics and do some remakes to reinvigorate the spirit and essence of FF, not make some super linear spectacle with little content or make it overly confusing (13 & 14 respectively).

    • I liked the IV remake. The graphics were nice and captured the spirit of those games. I don’t understand all the hate.

      • Some people just have a huge amount of vitriol towards chibi characters. I don’t understand why either.

        • KyoyaHibari

Its just that the chibi style graphics sortof demoralize the melodrama of Final Fantasy games and it loses its feeling towards the story, it’s like watching Madoka Magica, I love the dark themes and moral issues, but the magical girl theme still has me contemplating whether I should continue watching or not. Final Fantasy is about these ephemeral & captivating stories told through a mature, serious tone capturing a romantic and majestic yet sorrowful essence, and little chibi characters with moe-sorta looks and tiny weapons make it feel childish.

    • That’ll cost too much.
If they’re going to remake a game for the PS3 anyways, it would be FFVII.

      • KyoyaHibari

7 isn’t that great, everyone overhypes 7 because it was the first 3D FF and had a more futuristic theme, what Square SHOULD do that wouldn’t cost too much either is make a FFX & X-2 remake bundle for PS3 like the Sly Trilogy and GoW 1 & 2, I suggested it on a YT vid like a few years back and everyone likes the idea, X is my favourite, wide range of interesting characters (no emos really), more tactical, less stressful battle system, great plot and more.

    • Don’t complain when they end up on 3DS and not PSP….

      • KyoyaHibari

I’ll be happy if they get on PSP or possibly both, if it were on 3DS it would be another reason to get 3DS, still there’s only 2 3DS games I like atm, but im hoping for Sony and not chibi graphics

  • VI needs a PSP remake just because it’s the best FF and it has MOG!

  • godmars

And in a few months Square will announce it again with updated graphics…

Square, did you ever actually love us…?

  • Guest

So lazy they can’t even change the name?

    • LastFootnote

      That would require actual work.

      I won’t be buying this.

    • Hraesvelgr

If it’s the SNES version of the game, then it’s not really surprising that it still has the same name, as that version is almost certainly trademarked only at “Final Fantasy III”.

  • Saraneth

I refuse to play this game until it’s remade. I just know that the moment I play it a remake will be announced, so I will wait.

  • LOL i knew that was gonna happen. anyways glad i still own my copy of FFIII on SNES.

now i hope SE annouce secret of mana for psp the iphone ramake would be sweet!

oh and mario RPG after that.

  • EvilAkito

Wow. It’s about time. To think that VC seemed completely dead for a little while, and now we’re getting Final Fantasy VI.

  • Squenix, you’re not getting my money until I see Kefka in beautiful polished 2D PSP sprite graphics.

  • PrinceHeir

so is this the one with the magiteck armor? will wait for the enhanced version :D

  • Wake

If they could make a remake similar to the FFIV Complete Collection. That would be awesome.

  • Hraesvelgr

So this is just the SNES version of the game, then? Meh, not really that interested. As much as I love the game, it’s hard to get into the censored version anymore.

  • xxnike629xx

    Come on Square-Enix!!!

Make the PSP enhanced version of Final Fantasy III, V, and VI!!!

  • yeah i’ll get this and play through for the 7th+ time. fave FF game, for sure.

  • thebanditking

So is this getting a US PSN release or just on Virtual console?

  • I wouldn’t called it spoiled considering how old the game is…

  • Remake it! Don’t want this. :(

  • SetzerGabbiani

Everyone keeps saying psp remake. A 3DS remake is more likely looking at previous comments from the publisher.

    • Joanna

It’s probably wishful thinking. Just like all those people that were sure FFVII would get a PS3 remake and still want one even though SE has denied even attempting to do so because it would take too long.
