Mega Man 5 Beats It To Virtual Console

By Spencer . April 18, 2011 . 8:32am

mm5After vanquishing Dr. Wily and sliding under Toad Man’s deadly jump attack, Mega Man faces another group of robot masters led by… Proto Man? That’s the premise of Mega Man 5, which has a sentient choo-choo train as one of the bosses.

Mega Man 5’s ultimate secret is Beat, a robot bird that homes in on enemies. You can unlock beat by finding the letters that spell "Mega Man V" in the eight stages, which adds a bit more replay value to this hard to find NES game.

The other secret, which the ESRB spilled, is Mega Man 5 will be re-released on Virtual Console. The board examined the game and rated it for Wii. With Mega Man X out today for 800 Wii Points ($8) and Final Fantasy VI on deck, it seems like Nintendo is prepping a lot of classics onto Virtual Console.

one of my fav megaman game :) or am i mistaken…the one with Rush armor right?

    • Rush Armor was in MM6 and MM7.

      • Happy Gamer

ah I was mistaken lol but regardless this was an awesome game. I think i have the original cart somewhere in my boxes.

        • Yeah, despite the not so high praise MM4-6 get sometimes, I think all of the NES Mega Man games are great. Replaying them is always a pleasure.

    awesome :D

though why can’t capcom release Megaman Anniversary collection on either PSN or XBLA? VC has a limit of file size so that’s out of the question.

still being able to play all Megaman games on VC up to 10 is badass :P

now put Megaman X collection(up to 6) haven’t played X7 and X8, but it doesn’t feel like a MMX game despite the soundtrack and the art being true to the series.

    • Agreed. I’d be just fine with picking up Mega Man 1-7 on the VC, except then I wouldn’t have 8. D: (Also, MM:AC doesn’t have Rockman & Forte on it, does it? =( )

“but it doesn’t feel like a MMX game despite the soundtrack and the art being true to the series.”
MMX7? Yeah, doesn’t feel so much like a MM game. MMX8 was great though imo. Felt right at home as a Mega Man X title but with 2.5D layout + graphics! (And I guess a couple of ride armor levels. -.- )

I’ll pass on this, but if PSX Rockman 5 Complete Works hits PSN, I’d probably buy that! Playable on PS3 AND PSP would sell it for me, plus the Complete Works releases have minor upgrades to the originals. Otherwise I’ll happily stick to my Anniversary Collection PS2 disc.

Capcom has already released 1-4 in Japan on PSN, and 1-3 have come to North America. Wouldn’t surprise me to see Capcom finish up the set of 1-6.

      Yeah Anniversary/MMX Collections kind of made it pointless to buy Mega Man, and Mega Man X games for Wii/PS3 opo; I can’t help but feel like Capcom is kicking themselves for that one opo;; Still I’m glad they are doing this for all the people without the discs, and or just want to pick up there favorites owo;;

This is quite good news indeed. Guess it’s only a matter of time till we see MM6.
I think, as neo_firenze said, it’s probably worthwhile checking out the Complete Works versions instead.

They seem to be a lot better than how those anniversary collections ended up..
It’s hard to get me away from the NES controller though..

Proto Man is not the bad guy, Dr. Wily is behind everything.

    Oh, and spoiler warning.
