Tales of Graces F To Be Told In Europe In 2012, Tales of the Abyss Confirmed

By Ishaan . May 11, 2011 . 12:01am

Don’t hold your breath for a Tales of Graces F European release in 2011; Namco Bandai have confirmed they’re releasing the game on the PlayStation 3 in Europe in 2012. No mention has been made of a U.S. release date so far.

Namco also officially confirmed Tales of the Abyss for a European release, but no release date was announced for the game.

I wonder why they’re calling it a complete remake though! At least according to that feed. It looks more like a “REPLICAAAAAAAAA” as some would say. :P

    • Wii’s graphics aren’t HD. That’s probably why. Unless you’re talking Abyss 3DS.

      • Rarutos

Uh what? Sorry, I was talking about Tales of the Abyss. :V

  • malek86

Ok, I think at this point we can safely say it’s not coming to the Wii. Oh well.

At least that should show us just how good can Tales sell on the PS3. Considering past games sales, I’m a bit dubious. People are acting as if this will sell 500k copies in the USA alone or something, but I’m hoping for them it’s true.

    • It better sell at least 50k copies, since that’s apparently how many fans it took to get it localized.

      • lostinblue

It’ll definitely sell more than that.

    • lostinblue

They said they’d specifically announce the details eventually. I still have my fingers crossed for it, even if it’s not the F version?

That said, yeah this omission could mean exactly that.

  • I can see it now. Tales of Graces F will be released on the same day as FFXIII-2!

I’m still planning on pre-ordering a copy of both Graces F and Abyss. But it makes me wonder. If these two games happen to be very VERY successful (Somehow), how long would it take for bamco to bring over Xillia?

    • Ladius

Rich Bantegui is hinting at more news about the USA release, probably America will have ToGF in 2011 since he says that the Dubai announcement is only for Europe.

      • Ah, I see. Fantastic then. Going to try to get a few friends to get Graces while at it, if it comes out this year.

        • Ladius

Yeah, it’s important to consider that European releases of Tales games have always been delayed because of Multi 3 or Multi 5 localizations, and this is probably the case even for ToGF and TotA 3DS.

  • Dimentionalist

Good to see Europe get a confirmation! They’ve had some really rotten luck with Tales releases in the past, I hope it turns around for them in the ƒuture (see what I did there?)

The Graces console complaints from “console loyalists” are depressing. The “I can’t afford a PS3” people I can understand, but the “wai, Nintendo is teh superiorz, tr4it0r n4mco” complaints are just… :(

      • Dimentionalist

Exactly. I can understand being disappointed that a “complete” version of the game won’t released here, but we’re lucky to be getting anything at all.

    • malek86

Well, sucks for them that it’s not coming out on their console too. But I did say from the beginning, that they were being a bit too optimistic.

On the other hand, Namco’s secrecy regarding the platforms surely fueled the fire… why not just say it was for PS3?

    • Gotta love the “haxxor” writing of those people, that makes them sooo much more awesome than us “normal” gamers, lol.~

    • lostinblue

I could afford a PS3, I just don’t have one yet because I rather focus on software than hardware and already have a Wii and X360 (I like the PS3 better than X360 but oh well). That said I’d like to buy it on the Wii because it was a Wii game originally and this it’s custom made for it. It’s more impressive on it than on PS3.

And I’ll likely buy the PS3 version later on anyway. More than being a console loyalist, they have essentially the same game on two platforms, it would be good of them to release it on both seeing it won’t cost them much more to do.

  • RagnaXBL

Wow Namco on a roll 2day or what?

    • It would be lame not to take all they can from a hard work xD

  • Good news for Tales fans, especially the European ones which I’ve seen constantly asking if the games would be released there! But… I’m still sad that there is no sign or interest in .hack :( I even made a quick Tweet but no response whatsoever. I guess chances are slimming down to nothing now…

  • kroufonz

2012 for europe? maybe they’ll release it at the same month with FFXIII-2, or ME3 or maybe FFversusXIII and namco would say “see tales on ps3 ain’t selling” and then they’ll ignore tales again untill they announce xillia will be released in 2014/2015 ofcourse after japan get at least two more tales lol

  • Yui

Truth be told, this is a relief for me. The more the great big releases are spread out, the more of them I can buy (though waiting is a great tactic for some games, it’s very easy to forget, or to have priorities change). I was looking forward to Graces F a great deal, so this is definitely the best Tales news I’ve heard in a while!

I hope they do the same with Abyss. I’m really psyched for that too now, and the later they release it (preferably late 2011/early 2012), the more likely it is I’ll actually have a 3DS to play it on. :D

    • [The Hunter] Doomrider

Exactly! And I would like to remind my fellow European friends that Namco has a nice habbit of creating special editions exclusive to Europe, so it’ll probably be worth it!

      • You guys actually got psp eternia! It’s like $30+ to import it used.

        • malek86

It also had a game-freezing glitch in some early releases, a glitch that was unavoidable. Not cool.

  • HarryHodd

Glad they finally settled what console it’s for. lol Now we can finally talk about the game. I hope Graces f is out in 2011 in NA.

    • lostinblue

We always knew the PS3 version was coming. Nuking one hypothetical release that was being looked into is not “settling” per see, it’s singling out an userbase.

      • HarryHodd

It settles it for people without a PS3. Either buy one or don’t play Tales.

        • lostinblue

If you’re stretching it semantically I can also say we can, either ToS or ToSDotNW, since they’re also Tales games.

I never got what people that root for *insert platform* gain by another platform not getting the game when it is essentially done for it/there is a existing build of it; ain’t it kinda… Wouldn’t you find, I dunno, pitiful… If a X360 guy came and started bragging how he’s glad Vesperia PS3 didn’t come out outside Japan? It’s just pitiful.

They didn’t/don’t have to settle for one they already settled for two platforms for the game to be on in Japan, and that’s fine. Now, two userbases getting the chance to appreciate the game is better than one. It was always coming for the PS3, and I hope it comes for the Wii too, seeing a lot of people first anticipated it for it.

  • kroufonz

if europe early 2012, maybe NA release will be winter 2011 which also meant we can see it is sending to die in november hell or maybe october which same month with dark soul, and of course they will still not give proper advertising for tales :p.

i just hope they prove me wrong at E3

    • Draparde

I really really hope it’s not in November >_> especially not around November 11th….

      • What so special about that day?

        • Extra_Life

          The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim.

          • How could I forget? I preordered this for my brother’s birthday (7 days after the game release)

  • Great I planned to import the US version, but in this case the European one it will be for me(need to rise the interest for Tales games in Europe, probably buying some extra ones as presents!).

Even better this way I can play Abyss at last, man that was an annoying wait~

  • Klarktastic

I hope they keep the original dub on tales of graces F

    • Original dub… what?

      • Klarktastic

        the japanese audio…

        • Oooh. It might be possible ’cause ALL THAT SPACE ON THE BLU-RAY DISC.

          • lostinblue

Don’t count on it. They’d have to go to great lenghts for that, Tales games are not built for dual audio, they’d need to either double the whole data or make a robust “switch” under the games hood which would change the whole game’s structure into a branched one.

Worse yet, lately they time the skits with the audio recordings in the western version making it so that if you undub them (ToV and ToSDotNW) the skits will be all over the place, the scene will change before or after what’s being said was finished, sometimes you end up with a silent skit after all the dialog in english was said and done.

          • Klarktastic

I really think they should include dual audio since they would appeal to a wider audience, as for me I want it BUT will buy it regardless if they include it or not

          • Caligula

Klark – what wider audience would you be attracting? The vast majority of people who play video games in general don’t care either way whether the Japanese audio is included, and people who want dual audio and like Tales will get the game regardless.

          • Klarktastic

Caligula – I know quite a few people that wont buy the game because they feel that most english dubs sound annoying and unnatural, btw just to clarify english is not my main language, im portuguese and over here the general consensus is subs over dubs, we dont dub movies etc…

          • Caligula

Klark – That doesn’t negate my point. I don’t deny there are some people who won’t buy a dubbed game, but those people comprise such a tiny minority that they don’t even matter. If they included the Japanese audio in a Tales game, the sales boost would be negligible.

          • Klarktastic

Caligula – It’s would still increase the sales a bit since this game is really niche anime looking game (most anime loving people prefer the original voice over) I agree with you when you say that it would not increase sales by a big margin but it would still increase them regardless, and the “Tales” series needs to get a brand recognition in the west.

          • @twitter-285583501:disqus The sales may increase a bit, but it still would end in a loss for Namco as they never can get the money back from those tiny extra sales for including original dubs(it’s not as cheap as it sounds~). I see your point though I like the Japanese dubs and would love to have them in the localization, but I’m happy as it is so far~

    • Wells that kind of stupid not buying the game because its not in their original language. You and your friends must dub haters. I mean Tales of Vesperia had a good dub even better then the japanese. Speaking of dub what about Funimation dubs are they bad to your friends. Oh well their lost.

      • Klarktastic

excuse me? I’ll quote myself then: ”
I really think they should include dual audio since they would appeal to a wider audience, as for me I want it BUT will buy it regardless if they include it or not ” you should really read the rest of the post before replying also as I stated before im portuguese, We don’t get funimation dubs here because they won’t sell. The only thing that gets dubbed over here are kids cartoons, even then the big animated movies like toy story get 2 diferent screenings one dubed in portuguese and one with the original language, as I stated before its a cultural thing.

        • Oh sorry I thought you meant you hate english dubs. English dubs are pretty good sometimes but I didn’t even know they dub things in Portuguese still.

          • Klarktastic

no offence taken also we even get quite a bit of games with subtitles (and more recently with dual audio), actually ALL of the big PS3 exclusives include both, check this link out http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CAbE790Fp0c

this is my own language and it makes me cringe when I ear kratos speaking it.

  • Who are they?
And what have you done with bamco??

    • They are NBGI, and they give a damn.

  • Great news all round! Now I’ve got something to look forward to in 2012!

    • Extra_Life

      Just hope that it isn’t 21/12/2012 :)

  • Zeonsilt

    Vesperia anyone?

    • lostinblue

Nah. They’re past that I’m afraid.

    • Ladius

I think it’s time to move on, as much as I hoped for a ToV PS3 localization Graces F is awesome and Abyss is one of the best entries in the series for those who never played the PS2 version.

    • Caligula

You’ve got two games coming out already; isn’t that enough?

      • Exkaiser

I, for one, won’t be satisfied until we get both Phantasia Full Voice and Cross Edition.

        • Caligula

I think they should bring over Tales of Phantasia for the PSX. I swear it’ll sell like hot cakes if Namco would just stop being so stingy and just advertise a little for it!!!!

          • Exkaiser

I’m sure it’d sell well if they left the original Japanese voices in, but of course Banco just wants to lose money dubbing it…

        • Manonam

I love Tales of Phantasia, but Narikiri Cross sucks pretty bad…and TOP isn’t actually full voice like they advertise.

        • Dimentionalist

I won’t support those darn dirty trolls at Namco until I get Tales of Phantasia: Narikiri Dungeon (GBC ver) ported to the Game.com!

    • AdamBoy64

Well, I’m sure I’ll get struck down for mentioning it, perhaps rightfully so.People can only deal with false hope for so long.

But when Namco were hinting at games for release this year on ataleofrworichards.com, ToV was one of the games hinted at.

So I’m waiting to the end of the year before writing it off.

    • PrinceHeir

well i still want that :P

let’s hope they do release it ^^

    [] Told.

    [] Not told.

    [x] Linear Motion Battle Told

    • Style Shift Linear Motion Battle Told is more like it.

  • Darn… i hope it gets released this year on the US >_>

  • Not really happy about the 2012 release date for Europe.

  • I hope additional US news confirms DLC (Code Geass) and a 2011 release.

  • Oni123

Yay for tales of the abyss! only took 6years to come out in EU…. better late than never ^^b

  • Istillduno

I don’t know what the group of alien bodysnatchers which have replaced Bamco are called, but I am grateful that they have come to this planet.

  • Extra_Life

I’ll definitely import the US version of Graces f because I’m, well, not impatient (I’ve waited a long time as it is), but really looking forward to an epic RPG!

Anyway, I’ve already bought the Japanese version of Graces f, I’ll probably pick up the PAL version when it finally is released, as I did with Symphonia.

    • Triple Dipping?! Boy, you are XTREME!!!

      • Extra_Life

Haha, I only do this with very few games. My time with Japanese Graces f tells me it is the right thing to do!

  • Rich said they were releasing an english trailer at 8:30 pst.

  • Darkrise

Well all they can do now is release both NA & EH versions at a date where there’s nothing to dwarf it… *hint Namco* Not November… And Dual Audio =)

    • That would have to be September or October in the US, and possibly April or May in Europe. Maybe they could squeeze in to the edge of Holiday rush (Europe does Holiday rush right?) in January?

  • Subsenix

Its hard to see that when you played the game 2010

Before Graces comes i already finished Xillia a few times…Just wow how long it takes them

  • TomSkylark

To ask a stupid question, is the 3DS region-locked or not? I can’t recall if they changed this from the DS or not, and I’d like to import TotA of there’s no US release. I could just play my PS2 copy again, but a handheld seems like a better way to do a repeat play through. :P

    • Yes, it is region locked.

    • Zero_Destiny

It’s got a US release though don’t worry. ^_^ It’s already been advertised in US Magazines. From what I heard late this year is when it comes out. But don’t quote me on that. Namco-Bandai just hasn’t set a date in stone yet. But it is confirmed for a US release. :) They got a website and everything for it in the US. The Release date just says coming soon though.

  • Eheh :) I actually sent an email to Namco Bandai Europe last week asking for this game, and they told me to check out their website this week, for a pleasent surprise! I even tipped Siliconera about this story two days ago, but I guess you guys didn’t read it. I’ll be getting both games on release!

    • That’s not the case at all, check your e-mail :)

      • Oh! Thank you for taking your time to clarify the situation. Please bear in mind though that I was not, in any way, complaining about anything. As I mentioned in the email, I love your website and wouldn’t be here otherwise.

Thanks once again, and please keep up the good work!

        • Gotcha. I sent the e-mail so you know that you weren’t forgotten :)

  • Guest

Why Europe confirmation and not U.S.? Why wait makes no sense

  • Well nuts. How am I supposed to gloat over Europe’s perceived mistreatment by the game industry now?

  • FX102A

Mostly superb news (obviously a 7+ month wait isn’t that great). Though I’ve lost a reason to buy a U.S. 3DS now; there’s always SMT Devil Survivor Overclocked. At last European Tales fans can forgive 50% of the injustice during the 6th Generation (there’s still Legendia).
