Totori And Mimi, Now Grown Up, Uproot A Treant Boss In Atelier Meruru

By Spencer . May 16, 2011 . 8:58am

Gust director Yoshito Okamura took a break from directing to play a bit of Atelier Meruru. In this video Meruru, her mentor Totori, and Mimi team up to battle a giant tree boss. Mimi was also a playable character from Atelier Totori and one of Totori’s close friends.

While Meruru and Totori can alchemize swords and rockets, Mimi relies on attack skills that are just as powerful (if not more so) than summoning a giant Puni.

Atelier Meruru: The Alchemist of Arland 3 comes out on June 23 in Japan. Meanwhile, NIS America will release Atelier Totori: The Adventurer of Arland in North America and Europe this fall.

Looks like a fun turn-based battle system and Mimi is awesome.

And still, I want something more from an anime based JRPG for PS3 than something that looks like light hearted fluff. That could have been on the PS2.

      That’s just how I feel.

      • HarryHodd

Nothing wrong with light-hearted. Rorona was one of the happiest Jrpgs I’ve played in a while.

That would be great if they were out, and I had any faith left in Square Enix.

They are only capable of making good handheld games? Still doesn’t bode well.

          • Joanna

except Radiant Historia is an Atlus game (both here and in Japan). :|

        Take your pick

I honestly don’t see how either Totori or Meruru “could have been on the PS2”. In fact, the graphics in those two games look incredible, truth be told. Better than 90% of the games this generation, even.

      • HarryHodd

Your PS2 comment is kinda ridiculous when nothing on the PS2 cones close to these character models.

Gust is saving the JRPG genre single-handedly.

Let’s also thank SCEE for giving the niche developers a chance.

Handheld games obviously don’t count, Sega chickened out with VC 2+3 and Demon’s Souls and Yakuza are not really JRPGs.

Ok that leaves WKC and TOX but if you compare the budget and manpower of SCEJ/Level-5/Bamco with Gust those games become kinda meh.

WII games obviously don’t count either, Trinity is terrible, Disgaea is a SRPG and SE hasn’t made a good game this gen yet.

Ok that leaves ROF but if you compare the budget and manpower of Tri-Ace with Gust the game becomes kinda meh.

Trinity is pretty good, a SRPG is still an RPG, and SE made Radiant Historia is good as well as DQ IX and we have Type-0 coming out this summer which looks excellent

  • Man this game looks so……Gwaah! I want it so bad!

  • Barrit

Mimi is pretty amazing. I’m really looking forward to playing this game, it looks like a nice improvement compared to Rorona.

  • IceRomancer

That looked great! Epic treant battle FTW!

  • Darkrise

That attack in the beginning looks nice!

  • HarryHodd

Just watched the trailer again and the music is really good. Attacking bunny rabbits are awesome. Love the character designs and the special effects will look nice in HD.

  • A very good balance of turn-based combat, action and humour blended into a very nice looking game. I look forward to this heading West!

  • AzureNova

Amazing! I simply cannot wait to play this game.

  • PrinceHeir
