Enjoy This Gorgeous Trailer For Monster Hunter Portable 3rd HD Ver.

By Ishaan . May 22, 2011 . 3:35am

You’ve likely already heard the big news; Sony have introduced a “PSP Remasters” label under which certain PSP games will be upgraded with HD visuals for the PlayStation 3, along with new content and stereoscopic 3D support. One of the first of these titles in Japan is a port of Monster Hunter Portable 3rd.

Here’s what it looks like on the PlayStation 3:

Inside Games report that Monster Hunter Portable 3rd HD Ver. will be available this summer in Japan. A price hasn’t been announced for the game yet. Players will be able to import save data from the PSP version to the PlayStation 3 version of the game, and play online through the Adhoc Party application.

Capcom… I can understand you not releasing the PSP version in the western world due to the rampant amount of piracy on the system, but if you don’t capitalize on this one and release it here, our relationship is over.

Please, just do the right thing. Take my money, Capcom. All of it.

    • lostinblue

I think a portable version had more potential to sell than this one.

And if they brought this over that would mean the localization is done for the PSP as well, no?

      They should bring both.

      • malek86

In the west? I can’t see any PSP game having more potential to sell than a console game here.

In Japan it’s probably gonna sell a fraction of MHP3, but that shouldn’t matter much to Capcom. In fact, I’m pretty sure they are doing this version because they want to bring it to the NGP later (they said it would have been improved, didn’t they? I betcha it will be this one).

        • lostinblue

Well never know if they don’t provide them side by side.

It sold a bazilion on the Wii in the west compared to PSP because the platform was starved and it appeared as a high budget third party game, but then again PSP by now had lots of Monster Hunter releases in the west and it has a userbase for it now, even if small.

I doubt a up-port (that looks just like it sounds) has what it takes to sell that well on PS3 in the west to be honest. We, westerners take graphics into account too much.

I’d like to see both games launching and seeing how they do on each platform though.

    • PrinceHeir

      yes please :P

imagine games like The 3rd Birthday, Peace Walker, Portable Ops, Crisis Core, Birth by Sleep, Dissidia and Dissidia 012, Tactics Ogre, Valkyria Chronicles 2 and 3, Y’s, the list goes on and on…

      cannot wait for this :P

      •  I was under the impression they said they would do this for blockbuster hits, VC series, Y’s, and Tactics Ogre arent really “blockbusters”.

      • Guest

It’ll probably be MGS Peace Walker, God of War series, and perhaps a SOCOM game or two. Then perhaps Crisis Core and Dissidia.

  • Asura

So… it looks a little worse than the Tri for the Wii?

    • Scallion

But it has more than 2.5 weapons, so…

    • malek86

I can’t imagine that. Tri was so blurry, even MHG sort of looked more pleasant to the eyes.

      • lostinblue

I think Tri looks better than this one does.

The “bloom” filter is a matter of taste I guess, but the assets looked better.

If they start doing cross platform like this in mind though perhaps next time they’ll scale the game differently (not to mention this one is perhaps last PSP Monster Hunter?)

        • i think this one looks better… anyway i like the monsters in MHP3rd  more

      • Tri was blurry? Did you play it in 480p? Because for me it was crystal clear.

        • malek86

If you thought Tri was crystal clear, you should play MHG Wii. It looks so much clearer it’s not even funny. Of course, the PS2-level assets and polygons are also pretty noticeable. But Tri was too much out of focus for me.

  • PS3 has lots of cool games now. I think I’ll buy one, this MH 3rd HD bought me. xD

    • Subsenix

Now?It has the best games for the last 3 years and especially most of them are exclusive to Sony systems.
This year is the overkill….Tons of PS3 Exclusives, better Multiplats and now PSP Remakes for PS3 + the NGP?Sony is killing me…

Well better than releasing every year the 3-5 same old games like M$ is doing it.

      • Well when you can release the 5 same games, and you still out sell everyone. Why not do it. We all know that one Halo game will out sell everything you just mention from Sony.

  • Well it surely does look much better than the portable version, and I’m already hyped for it, even more if we get any chance to play it in the west, but for some reason, I think it could look even better on the PS3, some details look so uh, blurred, like the scales on the monster or on the armor.

  • You’re next, Gods Eater!

  • RagnaXBL

    What thats it?
This game looks ugly as ever

  • karasuKumo

Not too bothered which version we get over here as long as we get one of them.

  •  Wow this looks stunning especially the PSP visuals they showed (looked quite HD on the PSP). I wonder if this is a sign to come of what we will expect of NGP, PS3 and NGP connectivity, sharing saves, and dual game versions, of course with PS3 offering more in the line of features.

    Kind of want.

  • ManaKnight

I’m excited just by looking at this.  Hope it comes west, and there are so many great PSP games that could use this.

  • joesz

Heard on the news that many Japanese have died due to the uncontrollable, excessive amount of excitement after watching this.

  • heartless141

this summer? does it mean japanese PSN will be up by then? :(

  • nyobzoo

hoping for a real MH game for the PS3

    • Guest

Of course I’d love me some Gundam vs Gundam NEXT & Shin Budokai with PSN online MP but thats stretching it I guess…

      •  Is that Gundam game considered a “blockbuster hit” in JPN as one of the best selling softwares? It could happen…

  • MrRobbyM

My dream come true. Now only if my dream could travel a bit more to the west…

  • I’m just worried we’ll have to buy the same game twice to take advantage of this.

    • How is that a worry? The game is essentially a ps3 port of the game with save file sharing.  If anything I could imagine new copies of the ps3 version could come with downloads of the psn version of the psp one.

      • malek86

That’s never gonna happen and we know it.

At the very best, they might give you a code for a small discount.

        • If Valve could do it with free STEAM versions of Portal 2 with PS3 purchases of Portal 2, then I think it is a possibility that Sony replicates it for this setup

          • malek86

            Alas, Valve isn’t Capcom.

Valve is the one that gives out a bunch of DLC on Steam for free.

Capcom is the one that makes you pay for unlock keys of multiplayer modes and costumes.

  • Code

rar, nice~! Even if it is a cleaned up port, I’m just happy to see the game branch out onto the PS3 owo; Hopefully at least one of the two games will land here sometime soon, the lack of a NA release for MH3rdP is still a little disappointing though, hopefully might be something that turns up at E3. Although if it doesn’t I might have to finally break down and just import the PSP or PS3 version.

I wonder if Sony’s funding these HD remakes on PS3, if we might see Peace Walker, Crisis Core, or even the original MHFU, down the line owo~?

  • Ren

So, they upped the poly count and upped the texture resolution. They could have remade some, like the ground texture. Not the most beautiful thing ever, but still pretty nice, though I hoped better.

    • I hate just judging stuff based on a trailer on youtube, some of the stuff that I thought looked not as impressive shocked me in person. Im impressed with this though, looks mighty better than the murky looking Wii Monster Hunter.

      •  It’s called art design! The Wii looks murky because your pretty much pirates leaving by the ocean. This game is on a mountain, and your monks.

      • Blocky fingers.

  • I don’t think Capcom USA is going to follow through with this one, either. I’ll pick it up somehow if the price is right.

It doesn’t look fantastic, but I’d much rather play MH on a console than a portable (at least until the NGP is available).

    •  Really? Hasnt Capcom been expressing lately that Monster Hunter is still viable in the West? This seems to be the perfect opportunity for them to continue support with it.

      •  They do, but sales haven’t been great. Much like how they passed on Ace Attorney Investigations 2, the cost of localizing this (or MHP3rd) might be more than its worth.

        • The thing is… how “well” does Ace Attorney sell in the West?

        •  it has minimal dialogue and nothing that needs to be changed for the different culture.  not sure why it would be cost prohibitive.

      • On the other hand, there is that comment Capcom made months ago: http://www.siliconera.com/2011/02/28/capcom-the-future-is-bright-for-monster-hunter-fans-in-the-west/. I’m guessing this is what you were talking about?

“All I can say is, the future for Monster Hunter fans in the west will be bright, but just as there was  a sizeable gap between Freedom Unite and [Portable] 2nd, I think there’s going to be a little bit of a gap [following Monster Hunter Tri]. And exactly what form it takes, I can’t speak to — I have to unfortunately stay mum. But fear not, you guys have more goodness coming in the future.”

That could be a hint that Capcom could bring this over instead of the PSP version. Who knows? But, I’m erring on the side of yet another disappointment and will probably just get the JPN version, if possible.

        • Well with E3 around the corner, I guess we will find out soon. I really cant see a large publisher as Capcom skipping out on participating in this for both PSP and PS3 versions in North America…

  •  That looks way too good for an HDified PSP game

  • To anyone saying that these graphics look worse than the one on the Wii, may I remind you that you have to adjust youtube’s settings to 720p?

    Also… what’s the term I’m looking for… ?
    Oh, yes; F*CK YEAH!

  • eilegz

more HD ports… i cant expect less from capcom and sony, but seriously a proper ps3 version would be a better news.

  • godmars

This has to be the NGP dev tools at work.

I mean its literally going to be out this year. PS3 titles have gone from needing years to months?

    • lostinblue

I dunno about that. PSP is MIPS, PS3 is PowerPC and NGP is ARM.

      It’s probably a regular “port”.

Also bare in mind that they had the Monster Hunter 3 engine up and running on the Wii, which is PowerPC; with that up and running and considering they probably didn’t change the overlying way the game works on PSP it should be easy to put the game up and running on the PS3 without “NGP dev tools” (whatever that means); they just have to focus on the GPU front end for it.

Also, and even without that, PS2 is MIPS too, considering the PS2 ports to PS3 (god of war 1 & 2, ico, shadow of the colossus and a few more) perhaps Sony has software built to convert MIPS to PowerPC; which could be also a feasible way to go around it.

  • Well, Looks like I’m importing MHP3rd again :D

  • ninjaonizuka

i think this looks gud :pp

  • I’m kind of upset because I didn’t see mention of PS3 to PS3 connectivity, just psp to ps3 with save data and the ability to play with PSP players through adhoc party. If this is not the case, then it’s kinda pointless.

  • noctis_nox

Cool! hope they put trophies in there and I hope they put online functionality. I want to play with more people.

  • shion16

  • Capcom

I played Monster Hunter Tri, and loved it.

Please give me us westerners a chance to play Monster Hunter 3RD on an HD console too!

  • Venus in Furs.

Please to America releasing! Given I’m short one Wii, I haven’t had the pleasure of playing much multiplayer. What are the chances of these games (portable and HD) coming to the US? I don’t know how well the series is selling in the US, but I don’t think it’s THAT bad, right?

    • The PR says starting in JPN, so it would have to come around to other regions, I guess we have to hope Capcom delivers at E3….

  • C’mon, please remake Crisis Core, Dissidia 012, Birth by Sleep, Persona 3, Gods Eater Burst, Peace Walker and SOCOM as the first line-up! And Type-0 for the next holidays!

    • MrRobbyM

Agito(I still call it Agito) would be freakin’ awesome if I was able to play it on the PS3.

  • Exand

All I can say is, about time we’re able to play PSP games on the PS3!

  • AdventureTimeFinn

They’re asking if we want it in the US on their facebook page.
Go do your part and tell them yes.

Surprised not to see people mentioning the obvious connection to the leaks from less than a week ago of a forthcoming PSP God of War collection for PS3.  (reported in many places, Joystiq for one example: http://www.joystiq.com/2011/05/16/rumor-god-of-war-psp-collection-coming-to-ps3/

This isn’t even THAT new of an idea, there were already several PSP-PS2 releases (Silent Hill Origins, Jak and Daxter the Last Frontier, Secret Agent Clank, Motorstorm Arctic Edge, Syphon Filter, etc).  Really just extending that existing concept to upgrade/ports to PS3.

I’d expect a small selection of similar first party and bigger third party titles.  Peace Walker, God of War, Monster Hunter, some other Sony games, etc.

  • neo_firenze

By the way… right stick camera controls confirmed!

    • Zeik56

Thank god. Really really hate using the claw on the PSP.

Hopefully it’s full analog, but really even basic controls would be an improvement.

  • WyattEpp

I’m not sure.  There’s less aliasing, but the textures and polys…egad, you can definitely tell it’s a PSP game!  MH3 has much better models even at 480p; I hope they put more effort into it than just scaling their renderer…

  • HarryHodd

This looks quite good. I’d say it looks better than Senguko Basara 3.

  • looks better than Monster Hunter Tri and i applaud capcom for that.
definitely gonna buy this if it ever comes out in english (i got the jap ver)

  • Guest

Wait so the only thing I dont get yet is the adhoc party…we need to hook up the PSP to the PS3 like normal Adhoc party to play online or can’t we just access the PSN through the remastered PSP game stored on the HD? Why the focus on Adhoc Party then?
