Massive Final Fantasy Collection On Sale For $15,000 On eBay

By Ishaan . May 24, 2011 . 12:22am

Someone on eBay is putting their entire collection of Final Fantasy games up for sale. The auction currently sits at about $15,000 with just a few days to go before it ends. What’s inside?

Final Fantasies I – XIII for one thing. But there are also side series titles like "Final Fantasy Seiken" (aka Seiken Densetsu: Final Fantasy Gaiden or Final Fantasy Adventure as its known North America) Final Fantasy: Mystic Quest and the Crystal Chronicles games, as well as different ports across the GBA and Nintendo DS. Limited edition consoles? Those are in there, too.

You can view the full list over at the auction. Here are some additional pictures of the collection:

I’d rather have this than my children’s affection.

Too bad some of this isn’t being sold separately.

  • Now that I have played all of these great JRPGs (Star Ocean series, Persona series, Wild Arms 5, Radiata Stories, Dragon Quest series), it’s hard for me to appreciate the Final Fantasy series as I once did. There have been just too many remakes an ports. S-E is simply running the franchise into the ground.
Nonetheless, this is an impressive collection. It’s just sad that the person has to sell it.

    • If they were to fail with their new titles then that’s one thing, but I don’t know if I’d call remakes and ports driving the series into the ground.

That’s nearly 25 years of Final Fantasy and I don’t blame Square for wanting to introduce such a beloved series to new generations of gamers on newer platforms. However, I do draw the remake line at VI. I see absolutely no reason whatsoever to remake VII or later, though I’m sure they will.

Besides, Dragon Quest has its fair share of remakes, ports and spin-offs as well. Shin Megami Tensei for the latter.

      • What? VII – IX especially IX are the best in the whole serie. Well, you can argue about VII…

        • I agree. IX and VIII are my two favorite games in general, and VII is in my top five of Final Fantasy titles, but I just don’t feel they really need remakes.

Unlike the DS remakes, VII and above would almost surely end up as big budget remakes for home consoles, and at that point I think those resources would be put to better use on original titles.

I love Square, but even I can’t deny that they’re struggling to release quality games on PS3/360 in a timely fashion. The last thing they need is something like a VII remake, which would almost have to be their priority due to the ridiculous expectations that would accompany a project like that.

To be honest it’s a bit of a double standard. I’m OK with them bringing the 2D games to 3D (despite preferring 2D), but VII, VIII and IX still look great, play great and are easily accessible to tens of millions of people. Remakes just don’t seem necessary to me.

Not until I see HD Cloud cross-dressing. >:D

IMO, remakes of 7-9 are their “trump cards” in case they are losing in profits and stuff

      • The expression ‘too much of a good thing’ pretty much sums up Final Fantasy at this point. Yes, I do agree: Dragon Quest does have its fair share of remakes, ports and spin-offs as well. It is under the Square-Enix banner after all.

      •  I dunno, FF7 really hasn’t aged very well. It could stand a remake even moreso than FF6, IMHO, due to its early-era PS1 3D blockiness if nothing else.

I’m just not sure if I’d *want* that remake. If they made all the characters look emo like in Advent Children, it would kind of take away from the awesomeness of the game…

    • i really agree with you with all these remakes and just newer FFs, people are drop the series I myself dont know how long i keep playing FF but i love the elements and final fantasy that why i keep going on it. just hope it dies 15 witch it die at 14 but beside that i love mana series more then i do FF now and same gose for the chrono series. now we need these series to make 1 or 2 more games and see how it gose. lagend of dragoon2 i love see someday come true and vegrant story 2 maybe?

  • I imagine that’s what heaven looks like.

  • Kitsune Miku

See what Final Fantasy XIII did? It made them hate FF so much that they dont wanna associate with it ever again! *trollface.jpg*

  • If he has this massive collection. Why sell it?

    • Draparde

maybe there making room for another..growing collection >_> <_<….

    • Zero_Destiny

Well if it comes to you suddenly needing money to pay for an unexpected car problem, a house loan that you just don’t have the money for, rent that is been piling up, or something among those lines I would imagine selling your collection is only natural. Plus the person could be having a kid and will need to clear out their little game room and make it a bedroom. They’ll probably use the money to help pay for the child too. People do these things. Besides people like that usually keep like the bare minimum absolute can not part with it items. I’m sure he/she’s still got some Final Fantasy item that holds sentimental value stored away with him/her still.

      • PrinceHeir

        agree :P

still selling this is hard you know? i mean all those years collecting it just to sell it in the near future?

seriously some of these are impossible to find(even in ebay)nowadays so it’s kinda expected for prices to jack high.

i would NEVER EVER sell this kind of rare games no matter how high the price is. i don’t know maybe im just too fond of my collection. the only games that i have sold so far are sports game(PS2) used games that i already have new conditions of, and games that already have a expansion to(SFIV still i regretted selling it though) will sell SSFIV for SSFIV AE soon.

though if he’s in need for some cash i guess it’s fine.

  • i own most of these myself and mostly i used to order them thru paper adds on gamepro magazine japan video games. one game i see that he dosent have it’s FFIII NES.

  • He’d earn a lot more selling the rare stuff off on it’s own. If somone wanted that framed collection they’re not going to buy the lot just for one item. Still, impressive collection.

  • kupomogli

FF13 is the only game in the series that I’ve hated enough to sell.  Maybe I should buy it back just in case I decide to sell my entire collection.  Of course I don’t have many import versions of Final Fantasy, but I do have every US FF related release, including stuff like the Chocobo games.

I can’t help it. I know the series has been going downhill ever since FF10, but can’t stop buying the games.

Aside from FF10-2. It may have had a terrible storyline, but the gameplay more than made up for it.

  • I’m a bit surprised there aren’t that many soundtracks included.  But those pictures make me all giddy like a kid at a candy store.

  • This is a very IMPRESSIVE collection. Too bad the person’s selling their collection. Some of it I wouldn’t having for myself.

  • XypherCode

very impressive :D ‘wish i can have those xD

  • shaffy_oppa

    Thats a nice collection.

I’m actually quite happy with mine tho it only really includes what I want. I haven’t bothered trying to get ahold of stuff like the NES and SNES versions don’t see the point….

  • Croix

Ho-ho-holy crap. Like many others, I have found myself disillusioned by the Final Fantasy series of late, but I can still appreciate what a collection of this magnitude represents.

  • You could probably buy most of this stuff one at a time and end up spending way less. I feel bad for the person wasting all his money on this. Hopefully he can make it all back in the future.

  • Guest

    0_o all unopened too…

  • Guest

I hope she/he is gonna get the price he/she is looking for thats quite a sacrifice

  • Exand

The scary thing is I have a lot of the items in the pictures… but they’ve all been unwrapped and played lol.

  • My mouth is watering…

  • Raksha5 Akashi

I would NEVER sell it. Never.

  • hush404

That’s quite impressive. Though… I thought it might fetch more than $15,000.

  • CheckEmBrah

Spend $15,000 on a huge lot of sealed games and consoles and he’s going to ship it economy from Thailand? Lol, no thank you.

  • RablaAndrews

    No XIV?

    Whelp, not complete. Don’t want.

All joking aside, thats incredible. If I had the money i’d probably bid on it myself.

  • badmoogle

These are just pieces of plastic. It’s the experiences and memories you collect by playing the games that count.

  • Wow, I can’t believe this person is selling this awesome collection. While this isn’t my favorite RPG series (which would be Tales) this series is still good series overall. I like IV and IX the most. I think square should have make a FFVII back in the PS2 days honestly and I think Square is running the series down with all the FFXIII projects.

  • Why are the cases shaped so differently? Is this a collector’s edition thing or a japan only thing?

  • waste of money

  • This is the great blog, I’m reading them for a while,
    thanks for the new posts!
