“Stop Touching Me There,” Says One Character From Otomedius Excellent

By Ishaan . May 26, 2011 . 12:13pm

It looks as though just about everyone but Konami is willing to talk about Otomedius Excellent. The ESRB published their rating for the game today (a merciful “T”), with the usual smirk-inducing tidbits. Read on for the goods:

Content descriptors: Mild Fantasy Violence, Partial Nudity, Suggestive Themes

Rating summary: This is a side-scrolling shooter in which players control small characters that fly through the air and destroy fantastical alien ships. Players fire missiles and lasers at waves of enemies (e.g., robot penguins, floating spacecraft, mech-robots) in constant air battles; enemies and objects explode in fiery bursts and bright particles. The game depicts several female characters in revealing outfits—their breasts/buttocks are partially obscured by towels, strategic poses, and skimpy costumes. In one mini-game, players can scroll an on-screen cursor over characters to “touch” them (e.g., “Stop touching me there,” “You can touch me, but no one else!”); some sequences contain instances of suggestive dialogue (e.g., “We’d better get hot and bothered for this,” “Are you trying to turn me on or find my off switch?”).

A release date for Otomedius Excellent hasn’t officially been announced yet, but Gamestop say it’s coming in June. They also recently put up a listing for a collector’s edition of the game.

  • blah blah

Quite possibly best ESRB summary yet.

  • Sounds like an apt description imo. Anyone know what language options for the voices will be with this game?

  • any chance of region free? >.<

    • Code

This is actually the US version, it’s being localized, so there’s not really an issue as long as your on a US 360 >w<

  • This would’ve been a definite buy if it were a PS3 game.

    • Most console shmups are 360 only, so they certainly made the right choice  going that route.

      • TanyaRei

The right choice is usually supporting more systems/customers

        • its not always true, this game is too niche and it customers have 360, so why bother speding more money to make it ps360 if the sales will go up only a little bit?

          • Very true. This game is going to sell to a small, select market in the U.S. Many people are surprised it’s coming out here at all. The most logical choice is to make it for the system with the largest user base.

          • Testsubject909

The most logical and appropriate choice is to release it to the system that has a larger ratio and total number of players with an interest towards said game in contrast to those who revile or dislike this genre.

Simply because it has the largest user base does not equate the largest profit or the greatest exposure.

          • TanyaRei

Ps3 would more than likely boost it a lot

          • Not necessarily.

Shmup fans are almost all 360 owners in both Japan and the USA.

          • TanyaRei

Gamers in japan own a ton more ps3s than 360
Going 360 only insures itll stay niche

          • Di_Elle

And selling the game on PS3 incurs more cost for what will likely be no profit. It’s easy enough to say that publishers should expand their consumer bases, but for shmups like Otomedius, this means much more capital devoted to marketing along with the cost of a multiplatform release.

Shmups don’t traditionally do well enough to warrant straying from the originally intended consumers. They are in a niche genre and always will be, and there’s nothing wrong with that because there is no advantage to trying to escape it.

    • PrinceHeir

heck a digital release i wouldn’t mind(though Physical is always for me)

  • raikage

    “strategic poses”? xD

    • Testsubject909

      Would you rather Tactical Poses?

      • raikage

I just wondered how a “strategic pose” would look like in THIS game. xD

  • The date actually says July ;P
Regardless, I’m ready to SHOOT THE CORE!

  • It’s amazing that release a so Japanese styled game on the console that barely exist in that country.

    • 360 is the console of choice (even in japan) for shmups, and as Tomonobu Itagaki said once “nobody buys an Xbox 360 in Japan by accident”

  • TenRX

Looks like every single game that comes to America/Europe is easily chopped down by censors and stuff. Hope this one in particular isn’t.

  • finger crossed for this to be region free.
    i can’t live without gradius…..

    I have you now otomedius!

  • AzureNova

Damn I want this lol. Is it wrong if i wanna take her whip from her and tie her up with it? With love of course, with love.

    • Testsubject909

Yes it is, because the odds are that her whip isn’t that long to begin with and so you won’t be able to tie her up appropriately. It’s really best that you use your own set of rope instead and take her whip from her for other purposes.

I don’t know… Give her a fake tail with it?

      • Is there really any way to tie someone up “appropriately”? :P

        • AzureNova

Did I not say with love lol

      • AzureNova

Fake tail huh? lol Just so you know, you know where that whip is going then.

  • Kris

    “Strategic Poses”
    That’s my new band name.

  • pentarou

    Such conservative box art …

  • Man, June is gonna be a bad time for my wallet.

  • M’iau M’iaut

SE is now on Amazon — $49 for a two sided pillowcase, artbook and soundtrack

  • Kai2591

    • xflame10

      that was my reaction XD

  • xflame10

esrb guys love their jobs huh? XD

  • I hope there’s a couple of characters called Hot and Bothered. That would make that line hilarious.

  • Now this is sexy, hot, and worth buying!
