This Is Xenoblade Chronicles’ Alternate European Cover

By Ishaan . May 27, 2011 . 3:30pm

A while back, Nintendo of Europe held a voting session to allow fans to vote on the alternate art that will be present on the reversible sleeve of Xenoblade Chronicles European cover. That poll has come to an end, and the winner is this piece of art:

These were the other choices:

    It’s….BEAUTIFUL!

Time to get a Wii, I guess :3

    • http://twitter.com/#!/kaishou Kaishou

      just for one game?

    • AzureNova

I agree, they should start asking us weather or not we like certain game covers as well before the games come out.

    • exhume

I prefer the cover with the group of characters overlooking the cliff, but this one still rocks. Even better than the Japanese cover, dare I say?

      • badmoogle

This is more beautiful but the Japanese is more stylish i think.

        • exhume

Though if it’s really reversible then we might get both. :D

          • badmoogle

            Indeed!

  • http://twitter.com/Paradox_me Paradox me

If North America ends up getting the game, we’ll get the first listed in the other options. Except they’ll replace the black background with beefy shirtless dudes clad in American flag bandannas and a various assortment of guns. :P

That is to say the NA box art will be nowhere near as gorgeous as what our friends across the pond are treated to. *cough*ICO*cough*

    • Fonic

Maybe; but Europe got that horrifying Record of Agarest War cover. So regardless of where you are, you win some and you lose some I guess.
Anyway, I really hope this and Valkyria 3 are announced at E3.

      • landlock

        You mean that fake one?

these two were the euro covers.

        • Fonic

Guess the one I was thinking of ultimately (and wisely) was rejected in favor of the other, so never mind. Though the fact that they were even considering it was kind of scary.

      • Tatsuya1221

The EU cover for record of agarest war wasn’t really that bad, in fact i preferred the normal edition’s cover, the limited edition’s is the same as the japanese one, anyway i put the EU’s non limited edition cover here if you haven’t seen it.

      • gatotsu911

Out of all the RPG-related things over the years that America has gotten and Europe hasn’t, the one you choose to focus on is… the cover of Record of Agarest War?

        ……..Why??

        • Fonic

Not really sure. It just popped into my mind for some reason. But I was wrong about it anyway so forget about it. Just my sleep-deprived brain sputtering.

    • puchinri

Does NoA have a record of doing that to covers or something…? I mean, if this was maybe Ignition localizing it, I could see that.

  • badmoogle

Woah…so beautiful!Makes me eager to explore its world! Are there hi-res versions of those artworks somewhere?

  • http://myanimelist.net/profile/Kuronoa Kuronoa

So… how about that North America cover?  Must be finishing touches on it before announcing localization.

    • http://whatistheexcel.com/ Excel-2012

      What localization?

      • puchinri

The localization that’s soon to be announced, of course.

        • http://whatistheexcel.com/ Excel-2012

That’s nonsense. Nintendo said that North America isn’t interested enough in this game to warrant a localization.

          • http://www.siliconera.com Spencer

            Where might this be?

          • Croix

Honestly, though, as I’m sure English is one of the languages the game was translated into for Europe, barring issues with licensing or anything like that, they could basically just port it. It might not be the English accent some of those in the US are used to hearing, but then again, I don’t know that it was ever a problem for Dragon Quest.

          • SetzerGabbiani

Honestly, this is the main reason why I think the game will eventually come to the US.  NOE did all the work for localization, so all NOA would do is delete the other languages and change the spelling of certain words, like colour (color).

            ….but then again…Disaster: Day of Crisis :(

          • gatotsu911

The setting of Dragon Quest was more obviously European than that of Xenoblade, hence the British accents felt apropos. Of course, we don’t even know if all the voice actors in Xenoblade are British – for all we know Peter Dickson could be the only one.

          • Croix

I don’t even know if the voice actors for this version have British accents either, I’m just saying that it would be an inconsequential detail for those who really want to play the game if that is the case. And then there’s those who like British accents, maybe more than they should…

          • puchinri

Now that there, my good poster, is nonsense. They’ve said no such thing and they shall not.

          • gatotsu911

When exactly did they say this?

    • http://pulse.yahoo.com/_S2UKKIGGOA4V5EIFXAD7BQQOV4 Heehee

Yeah. They’re still adding more steroids toward the main characters that’ll be shown on the cover. Making them more angry and everything darker.

      • Guest

Unreal 3 Engine. Primary colors will be grey and brown. Thats it. plus the main character is getting a buzzcut.

      • Subsenix

And of course the enemy is Bin Laden so Xenoblade will sell Millions of units in the USA
At the End Obama comes in and says “You saved the world” and Marcus Fenix from Gears of War comes in and then you see a lot of meatheads taking a gay shower and rubbing each other.
Cause this is what sells in the mighty USA!

        • gatotsu911

This is so stupid I don’t even know how to respond. And it’s not stupid in the way you intended it to be.

      • FireCouch

I love how everyone rips on American game stereotypes when in reality, most games from Japan use their own god awful stereotypes as much, if not more.

        • badmoogle

Siliconera has a fanbase that is more favorable towards Japanese stereotypes than Western ones.
If you go to a shooter forum, like the COD one or the Gears of War one i’m sure that it will be the opposite.
Personally i think both countries produce stereotypes that i don’t like (for example i can’t stand the Tales character designs) but at least Japanese creators are more likely to experiment with their archetypes and stereotypes and sometimes even make fun of themselves.Western mainstream developers always play it on the safe side (even with low budget games) and take themselves and their games way too seriously.

          • malek86

“Western mainstream developers always play it on the safe side (even with low budget games) and take themselves and their games way too seriously.”

Well, they are mainstream for a reason. Japanese mainstream developers act like that too. If you go on the indie side, you’ll see there’s just as much self-parodying as in niche japanese games.

          • badmoogle

“Japanese mainstream developers act like that too.”

I don’t think so.Isn’t Platinum (or former Clover) considered as mainstream?Still they don’t afraid to experiment and make fun of themselves and their games.Or who could foresee that in an age of extreme handholding a company like From Software would go completely the opposite way and risk to develop a game like Demon’s Souls?Even the character/enemy designs stray too much away from what you would expect from a western studio that repeats the same Tolkien-esque cliches time and time again. And there are many more examples like this that come from Japan.Unfortunately you don’t see this kind of attitude in mainstream western studios.

          • malek86

Are you considering From and Platinum as mainstream? I was thinking more of Squenix, Capcom and Namco.

Those two, as well as companies like Falcom and NIS… well, maybe I wouldn’t just call them niche, but I wouldn’t call them mainstream either. After all, their sales numbers show they don’t exactly make games everyone buys. COD and FF they ain’t. Even Tales is far from them.

  • Arcm

I swear there will be HELL to pay if Nintendo of America doesn’t announce this at E3……… ; )

  • Aoshi00

All of the artworks are beautiful…  I prefer the Euro cover to the Jpn one, which I found to be a little dull..  That’s the feeling when you play the game though, just awed by the expansive environment…

  • eilegz

    Nintendo of america… when???

    • Guest

      Strangle Reggie first

    • Subsenix

Go play CoD…Thats what you like there.
You get this year those awesome and different games called Gears of War 3,CoD random number and maybe a Halo Remake.
All you need there – USA USA USA!xD

      • eilegz

how could you forget about the GOTY Uncharted 3

      • gatotsu911

Those games have absolutely nothing to do with this game, nor do they have anything to do with Nintendo, nor for that matter do they have anything specifically to do with America (hate to break it to you, but Call of Duty and Halo are top-sellers in Europe too). Good job looking like an idiot though.

  • Jrpgfanatic

Good call Europe, best of the bunch I think.

  • fallen

    Gaur Plains <3

  • puchinri

Wow, they had beautiful covers to choose from. I actually liked the last two the most, but the chosen cover is pretty nice too (and represents the game well, lol).
I really hope to see Xenoblade announced here some time soon. Even if we don’t actually get it this year.

  • DanteJones

Damn, the winner is effing beautiful, but the runners-up are just as good! I especially like the one with the party in the lower right corner, the art reminds me of the first Final Fantasy Tactics. :D

  • Darkrise

Sooo… The wii is region-locked right?

    • fallen

Yep. Easy enough to “jailbreak” though.

      • YsyDoesIt

Yeah, definitely modding my Wii for this and the other goodies.  Nintendo’s become one of the biggest blueballs-inducing (which is always impressive when one cannot get said symptom) publishers in the US when it comes to awesome RPGs failing to be published.

  • Syltique

Where do I send my money?

  • imaguni

Ahhh, the final choice is gorgeous, it has such a sense of grandeur. *A*

  • Lenne

nice i like it, looks very beautiful.

  • http://www.facebook.com/people/Rudy-Soto/100001518601121 Rudy Soto

Europe gets all the good stuff…

    • Subsenix

Because we dont play only Halo,CoD and Gears of War

We like different Genres and thats the reason Nintendo and Sony are raping the 360 so hard here.

      • Hraesvelgr

No, actually, I’m pretty sure the average gamer in Europe mostly buys those games, too. Nice try, though.

  • http://www.facebook.com/brandon.regueiro Brandon Regueiro

I can’t believe this still hasn’t been announced here.

  • anxiousheart

    COME. TO. AMERICA.

  • http://twitter.com/AaqibRawat Aaqib Rawat

wow i prefer any of the below 3 then the top one XD

need to put a bit more effort into my wii fund

  • http://strictlyapathy.comoj.com/ SoulArbiter

No arguments with the chosen cover here.

  • XypherCode

very nice!! i wonder what the NA cover will look like…IF it comes to america and i hope it does :D
