Mameshiba Evolves The Pet Genre With Trainable Beandogs

By Spencer . June 1, 2011 . 1:19am

mameshiba1You’ve raised dogs, cats, and maybe even cared for zoo animals on the Nintendo 3DS. Now comes the greatest pet challenge – beandogs. Columbia is working on a Mameshiba game for the Nintendo 3DS. In Japanese, the name is a portmanteau of bean and dog, which is exactly what the characters are.

Mameshiba (temporary title) is a communication game so you’ll talk with the Mameshiba and they will teach the player trivia, it’s one of their habits. Each beandog has a different color and personality.

From top left to bottom right we have Edamame, Sword Bean, The Scream, Chickpea, Chilli Bean, Black Bean, Pistachio, and Coffee Bean. All of these characters are confirmed in the game.

There are also "American" Mameshiba – seven colorful Jelly Beans like peach, soda, strawberry, and strangely enough melon that aren’t in any screenshots so far. Mameshiba is slated for release in Japan this fall.

Something cute – limbs = something really cute.

    • puchinri

The Mameshiba are so cute. But some are appropriately… creepy/disturbing? But highly amusing. x’D

    • So that explains why Rin in Katawa Shoujo is loved.

  • XypherCode

    uhh…so it’s like Tamogotchi? :D

  • puchinri

    A Mameshiba game? Really…?
    …DO WANT! ♥

  • XypherCode

oh so these are bean toys of some sort that’s been made into a game…interesting :P and cute lol

    • puchinri

I don’t know if there are toys of them, but they originated from commercials. Odd, funny and sometimes, somewhat twisted commercials. They are cute though, aren’t they?

      • XypherCode

sure is. might be worth picking up sometime :P

        • puchinri

Indeed. I’m kinda tempted to get it just because. (And to see how random the facts are.)

  • Do you know?

  • …. But can we eat them?

    • puchinri

How many people have actually eaten the Mameshiba after the little fact? I can only even think of one commercial where one person gets excited rather than depressed or disgusted. (Oh, heh, two actually…)

  • Apache_Chief

They should make something like this but with Yukkuris. Beanpaste heads are the next logical step after beandogs.

  • katamari

    Take all of my money.

  • RagnaXBL

    baby shiba fwoots!

  • MisterFoxInc

  • Holy crap a Mameshiba game?! I don’t know why but I’m super excited to get this one! :D

  • raikage

I always see Mameshiba-clips when I watch Blue Ecorcist, but I never understood what they actually are and what all that is about. xD

    • Baby, baby, baby shiba! Baby, baby, baby shiba!

    • SetzerGabbiani

Me too.  I just thought it was a stop-motion animation show for young kids in Japan.

    • Lol same, they also does that weird song

  • blah blah

Nintendo should’ve done Mameshiba instead of Nintendogs.

  • ScarletNoKanashimi

    it’s… the troll beans thingy =o=;

  • Suicunesol

    Never seen this before…

    But I like pistachio! :)

  • Code

rar, hey I recognize this character! It tells me obscure facts that leaves me moderately disgusted >w<!

  • Do want!

  • Chippel

It just had to be a 3DS game. Now we’ll never get to learn all the fancy new information we can bring up at the dinner table. :(
