Nintendo Power magazine already confirmed that Sonic Generations is indeed headed to the Nintendo 3DS, but Sega have “officially” revealed a few details on the 3DS version of the game now.

Similar to the console games, Sonic Generations will let you play as classic and modern Sonic, and will have stages based on well-known levels from previous Sonic games. However, Sega say that Sonic Generations will have environments exclusively designed for the 3DS.

According to information in Nintendo Power, this refers to the fact that both classic and modern Sonic’s stages will be sidescrolling. Classic Sonic stages will be inspired by the Sega Genesis games, while modern Sonic stages will feel more inspired by the stages from the Sonic Rush games, where Sonic uses the Sonic Boost to pick up speed.

StreetPass features are also in, although they haven’t been detailed. You’ll be able to unlock new content and bonus material when you pass by another player in StreetPass mode. The game will also have a two-player Versus mode. Sega also mention that they will include an unlockable “Special Stage” for the Nintendo 3DS version of the game.

Sonic Generations on the 3DS will have the same story as its console counterparts, and is due out in November 2011, alongside the Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 versions.

You forgot to add “DAY ONE BABY” to all of these.

Day 1 for all of those will be so awesome, so excited dude!

I guess you aren’t really all that excited since you left out “BABY” and “Day 1″ isn’t in all caps.

I will just be curious to see if the inevitable PS Vita version will be based on the console or 3DS version.

Finally some acknowledgement that the recent 2D games are basically the 3D games in 2D. Maybe they finally “get it” now, might actually be looking forward to this one

I thought the whole point of some them was that they were 2D (and barely or partly 3D)? Haven’t they said in an interview or two that they were aiming to incorporate the 2D back into the titles (Unleashed and Colors come to mind)? Or maybe I’m just imagining things…

    sonic games have story ??

    • http://tristsantithesis.tumblr.com/ Tsunayoshi Sawada

Sonic Colors had great story, like the definitive Unleashed…I like how they tie in to the vocal tracks with the games. (Endless Possibilities, Reach for the Stars, Speak with your Heart)

I just hope this is better than Sonic Colors on the DS. I love Sonic Colors on the Wii, it was really enjoyable and one of Sonic’s best games as of lately. The DS version however I just couldn’t get into and was let down pretty badly.
