Sonic The Hedgehog’s Estranged Creators At Last Reunited With Sega’s Icon

By Spencer . June 11, 2011 . 9:48am

Sonic the Hedgehog’s birthday bash was across the street from E3 at a special Sega event called Sonic Boom. Sonic Generations director Takashi Iizuka announced at Club Nokia what we told you weeks ago, there will be a Sonic Generations demo. Later Jun Senoue, composer for may Sonic the Hedgehog games, took the stage and rocked out to Green Hill Zone with his band Crush 40.

The biggest surprise at the event? This.

That’s Yuji Naka, Hirokazu Yasuhara, and Naoto Oshima – the creators of the original Sonic the Hedgehog together – with… Sonic the Hedgehog. Seems like something natural, but the three founding members of Sonic Team left Sega years ago. Oshima formed Artoon, makers of Blinx: The Time Sweeper and Yoshi’s Island DS. Yasuhara used to work at Naughty Dog. Naka opened Prope, which is working on Rodea: The Sky Soldier.

Naka, Oshima, and Yasuhara finally, reunited with Sonic.

Iizuka and Senoue are on the left. Sonic’s generations are all up there.

Thanks to Kris for capturing the rare moment when Sonic’s past and future are on the same blue stage.

I’m surprised and thrilled that Crush 40 is still around. Please let them be in Generations. At least City Escape.

I love Crush 40, felt missing without them in Sonic Colors and Sonic Unleashed.

Already been confirmed.  I’ve heard the remixed version of City Escape on youtube already. Here’s the link

Hmm, the song was a little off-putting at first, but I think I like it. Though it’s a little disappointing to have the awesome bassline simplified into an *untss untss untss untss* synth. Still, now I’m even more excited for this game.

That’s just the version for the classic Sonic stage, which I heard they were trying to replicate the Sega Genesis bass.  There is another version for modern Sonic that adds lyrics and expands upon the original song if I remember correctly, tho that version has yet to leak.

That’s really cool, I like that idea of classic and modern versions of the same song.

            That’s a relief

That must be a great feeling being reunited with your original team members at a big event like that

They picked the right time for sure, with Sonic “recovering” in they eyes of many fans due to Colors and the upcoming promising game that “acknowledges” both old and new Sonic.

I’ve would’ve loved to have been there. It’s always bugged me that Hirokazu Yasuhara and Naoto Oshima have been all but overlooked when Sonic’s origin is discussed in favor for Naka.
