Dimps Developing Namco Bandai’s Saint Seiya Game

By Spencer . June 22, 2011 . 12:54am

imageEarly reports about Saint Seiya Chronicle from Japanese message boards noted Tecmo Koei was the developer of the PlayStation 3 title. This information was incorrect. Famitsu’s article notes Dimps is the actual developer. In addition to making Street Fighter IV, the Osaka based studio created two Saint Seiya games for PlayStation 2.

Players will fight waves of enemies and Taurus Aldebaran, one of the gold saints, is in Saint Seiya Chronicle. Pegasus Seiya, Dragon Shiryu, Cygnus Hoga, Andromeda Shun, and Phoenix Ikki are also playable characters.

Saint Seiya Chronicle is 60% complete and scheduled for release this fall. On June 23, Namco Bandai will reveal a trailer on June 23.

Can’t wait for the trailer. Good news about the developer.

I hope Dimps and Namco Bandai would include the master track for Pegasus Fantasy for the games.

Now We can officially say that the game will be good.

Um… no. This actually worries me a great deal. The PS2 StS fighters Dimps made were awful. I’d much rather have Koei be the developer.

plz don’t disappoint us Dimps…it’s very rare to have a Saint Seiya game to be made for us fans. Can’t wait to see the trailer soon…very soon.

Glad it’s not by Koei, hope it’d be much better than the 2 PS2 games…

I like the reaction montage posted by this guy when people heard the annoucement :)

You honestly think what Koei could make would be worse than the PS2 StS games Dimps made? Those games were terrible.

Anyway, here’s hoping Dimps doesn’t screw up again.

DW style games not made by Koei:

        Bleach (PS3)
        Kingdom (PSP)
        Undead Knights (PSP Tecmo)
        Basara (Capcom PS2/PSP/PS3/Wii)
        Busou Renkin (PS2)
        New Super Sentai game (Wii)
        Ninety Nine Knights (360)
        Kingdom under Fire II (PS3/PC)
        Dragengard I & II ( Capcome PS2)
JoJo’s Bizarre Adventure Phantom Blood (Capcom PS2)

There’s probably a few others but can’t remember

Maybe you misunderstood what I said?  I was talking about how I don’t see why Koei would do a worse job than Dimps, especially since Dimps made those two awful StS PS2 fighters.

Or maybe I’m misunderstanding why you posted the list of DW clones?

I wasn’t that impressed w/ the two PS2 games either, especially they changed the seiyuu for the Hades game..  I had a feeling this would be done by Dimps when I heard this news.. that’s why I found it amusing people have posted that manga montage up there :)  I only want a Saint Seiya RPG actually instead of a brawler.. I don’t expect this to be that good, but I’ll wait for the reviews and see… I’m collecting some Cloth Myth figures though :).

It’s about warriors from across the world who get these pieces of armor called
“Cloths” that give them incredible powers. They’re all based off constellations of the sky, and the gold knights (Like Taurus listed above) are based off the main horoscopes. To give you a general idea of Seiya, his cloth gives him the power to throw one punch, but it actually ends being thousands and thousands of punches hitting the guy in what looks like that one punch. Along with Saint Seiya to me is like the birthchild of Fist of the North Star and DBZ. It’s really really good.

Also there’s Saga’s Galaxy Explosion attack which is the equivalent of….a galaxy exploding…in your face.

And Athena Exclamation which is a three person teamed attack that has the compressed power equivalent to the Big Bang (that which created the universe)

Then there’s Shaka’s Rikudo Rinne which is an illusory technique where Shaka traps the opponent
into one of six deadly worlds, usually after a tour of each:

The Jigokukai (Realm of Hell)-bound shall suffer from eternal damnation and pain.
The Gakikai (Realm of Preta)-bound must suffer a constant struggle to eat.
The Chikushokai (Realm of Beasts)-bound must live in a prehistoric world where animals reign supreme.
The Shurakai (Realm of Warring Demigods)-bound shall constantly fight one another to the death.
The Jinkai (Realm of Humans)-bound will forever suffer from mental instability and deterioration.
The Tenkai (Realm of Heaven)-bound will be judged on the weight
of their sins, and possibly fall into Chikushokai, Gakikai, or
        Jigokukai.

And Shaka’s Tenbu Hourin, which is a technique that traps the opponent into a matrix of illusions (normally Buddhist in nature), and is completed in five steps. Each step strikes at one of the opponent’s five human senses, until they have lost all of them in a sequential manner, leaving them with nothing but their intuition (but no way to express any action). Eventually, Shaka may destroy this sixth sense too, sending his opponent into total oblivion.

The fact that Dimps is making this instead of Koei scares me. Here’s hoping they actually put effort into it, unlike their PS2 StS games.

Hmmmm hope it gets released in Mexico :). It has a great following and was a big hit here (much like in Spain, France and Brazil).

  • Exand

Wow, I didn’t realize new Saint Seiya OVA’s were still being made :o I haven’t read / watched Saint Seiya since the original series back in the 80′s. I hope this is good because the Saint Seiya games back in the Famicon and Super Famicon days stunk…

    • Aoshi00

You didn’t like it?  Golden Densetsu Kanketsu-hen was awesome back in the NES days :)  Was there a game on the Super Famicom?  I thought there was only a remake of the 2 Famicom games on the Wonderswan.  This would probably be like the two PS2 games (brawler/fighter) w/ a HD facelift…  The OVAs were pretty good, but they changed seiyuu after Hades Sanctuary which disappointed all the fans majorly…  frankly I don’t want to hear Tidus/Ichigo as Seiya…
