See The Latest Shin Megami Tensei: Devil Survivor Overclocked Video

By Spencer . July 6, 2011 . 12:07pm

Reminding us Shin Megami Tensei: Devil Survivor Overclocked is on track for August 23, Atlus sent over another trailer of the Nintendo 3DS version. You won’t see clips from the 8th day here, but this video has plenty of voice acting.

It looks like Atlus revealed a few new demons from Shin Megami Tensei: Strange Journey that made their way into the Nintendo 3DS game. Black Maria and Sraosha, I think, are new for Devil Survivor Overclocked.

  • Shinji (Eva)/Hanataro (Bleach) cant get out of my head now. Love that voice from that voice actor. Atsuro is pretty cool.

I wonder if there are multiple endings, new game+ options? Of the other
two Atlus games Ive played (P1P, P3P) the soundtrack as seen here
(didnt hear any themes with vocals), seems odd.

    • Exkaiser

Shoji Meguro tries to mix his styles up between games.

    • Zero_Destiny

The Opening song has vocals. I don’t know much else besides that though. But like Exkaiser said Shoji Meguro switches it up here and there, it’s definitively his music though.

Edit: Though he doesn’t do the music here. lol My bad. End Edit

I agree about Spike Spencer ( ) I always liked his acting. Glad to see him in more games. He’s not in enough. ^_^

    • The original game had multiple endings and a New Game +. While multiple endings are a given, we’ll go out on a limb and say this game will have New Game + too.

    • SolidusSnake

I have to agree with my fellow commentators Zero and Exkaiser. Shoji Meguro is an incredibly versatile composer who can create brooding, militant orchestral scores (Strange Journey), industrial rock (Nocturne), J-pop, techno, and probably any other kind of music he wants.

However, Devil Survivor’s music was written by Takami Asano, not Shoji Meguro. Unless the music has been rewritten for the overclocked version, which doesn’t seem to be the case.

      • Zero_Destiny

lol My bad. This is what happens when you you assume I guess. I have much too learn still. XD Speaking of Strange Journey I was blown away by that music. I couldn’t believe it was Shoji Meguro at first. It’s so different from his other stuff that I’ve heard so far. Love it. :D

        • SolidusSnake

Hell yeah man, Strange Journey had a GREAT score. I dunno why people on the internet bashed it; I guess they were just mad that it wasn’t rock / j-pop or whatever they thought was the typical MegaTen sound. But yeah it was awesome, dark, austere, militant and PERFECTLY suited to the Schwarzwelt in every way.

          • Zero_Destiny

Haters gonna hate. But whatever. Loved that soundtrack. Some of the best battle music too. ^_^ The music really helped make that awesome game even more amazing.  :D

      • I dont see anything listed for that composer other than this game. I assume its their first videogame music? I hope its up to par! Thanks.

        • SolidusSnake

Yeah it’s a decent soundtrack from what I remember, more of a rock / industrial sound with some ambient compositions, as opposed to Persona’s J-pop. I dunno if it’s your style but hopefully you will enjoy it.

So far as I know that is the only game soundtrack he’s done but apparently Asano has been playing guitar in some rock band called Godiego since the 70s, which is interesting. Devil Survivor’s soundtrack is pretty modern sounding coming from such an old school rocker.

  • this game looks good, tough I never played it. The 3DS version has any difference from the DS one? I know that’s an exclusively 8th day, but, the graphics, stills the same on both versions, right?

    • kylehyde

I played the original and for what I see on this port, there’s not a big improvement on the graphics, maybe a little bit, but very little.

      • oh, I see… thank u for ur time ;)

        • Saraneth

I’m not sure about other people, but from the screenshots it seems like the 3DS version is higher resolution. It feels like a big difference to me; the original’s graphics weren’t that great, though good for the DS. It’s also has the larger topscreen of the 3DS, so it’s effectively been made into “widescreen” from “fullscreen.” There are other, non-graphical improvements, too. Full voice-acting is a big one; there was none in the original game, and that’s pretty major, in my opinion.

  • Shinji Kazuya

I wish this would make it’s way to Europe!
    I can always dream. :<

  • AnimeRemix

Am I the only one here who doesn’t like Yuzu english voice? Meh, I like Atsuro voice! At first it didn’t click with me, but after listening to it again, it sounds quiet nice. I wonder what Naoyo sounds like…

  • LynxAmali

    Atsuro’s voice…..

    HOLY CRAP!!!!!!!!!!
    Mother of god…
    I need this game.

    • Saraneth

His voice is easily the best in the game from what I’ve heard.

  • I beat the DS game three times, and yet I’m definitely ready to grab the 3DS version and go around again.

  • DanteJones

I hear Spike Spencer and Laura Bailey, I can’t tell who is doing Yuzu’s voice though.

Can’t wait to get this game! Again!

  • Yuzu’s voice will make me mute the game.. :<

    • Saraneth

Is there an option to switch to Japanese voices? Her voice irritates me, too. It’s a shame, since Atsuro’s is pretty good. He was my favorite character, too. :(

  • Barrylocke89

Did anyone notice that this seems to have new skills as well as new demons? At around 0:43, Atsuro uses a Physical move called Mow Down, and unless I’m mistaken, that move isn’t in the original.

  • Thanks for region lock nintendo. *sigh*

Time to get me a PSVita.

  • I feel like Atsubro’s voice doesn’t fit his sprite, but that could just be because I imagine his voice to be a little more bro-like. (So I guess deeper, and less surprised?)

Yuzu’s voice matches her pretty well I think, because she sounds as shrill as her personality. She sounds panicked, and that’s basically what she’s like all the time.

I think I that was Ayame speaking? Pretty oracle-like tone, so I guess it suits her.

I also think that I heard a line from Naoya, and I think he sounds a little too oracle-like for his role. He needs to sound more meddlesome. >:D

  • Historiata

As long as Amane and the others are good, I’m alright. However, when VAs are abolished like, everywhere, why bother complaining?

  • I don’t know, you could tired of the voices fast. Especially Amane’s, it sounds more like she’s bored and apathetic. Wonder what makes Mow Down different from all the other ‘attack multiple enemies’ physical skills.

  • Please offer us the Japanese voice track. There is a reason why seiyuu are so well loved.

  • PrinceHeir

    the music is fantastic O_O
