Atlus revealed a new character in Shin Megami Tensei: Devil Survivor 2. Meet Airi Ban.

She’s 16 years old and a student at Nagoya High School. While Airi is usually lively and cheerful, she’s hiding something about her family. One more thing about Airi, she hates idiots. It’s unclear how she gets involved with the game’s protagonist or Devil Messengers. She is a key character in Devil Survivor 2, though.

Shin Megami Tensei: Devil Survivor 2 comes out on July 28 in Japan and Q1 2012 in North America.

  • It’s nice when you can relate to the characters in games.

  • Ren

That’s a big number of kanjis for such a small name… 亜衣梨 Why was that name in my dictionary?

    • puchinri

Lol, I guess the a, i and ri each have a kanji? I wonder how many names are like that (a friend and I were discussing a few names that could be like that the other day).

      • Ren

Yeah, and the weird part is that Airi has a lot of variation, but more than a third of them are made by 3 kanjis.

        • puchinri

Hah! That seems so odd, but I suppose it kind of makes sense. I can’t think of many words that are actually ‘ai’ (except love).

  • FireCouch

What’s funny about that is that one person’s moron is another person’s lover.

  • Hates? ouch.
Her design looks a little familiar.. I might just be seeing things.

  • leadintea

For someone who’s supposedly cheerful, all the pics we’ve seen of her are anything but.

  • She looks tsundere!!!

  • AzureNova

I just hope she isn’t one of THOSE tsunderes.

  • XypherCode

tsundere? i think she’s a spoiled rich kid character who hates idiots :P

  • why they have to make these girls so young mane got damn make em at least 18

    • Testsubject909

I live in Canada. The legal age of consent is 16.

      • M’iau M’iaut

By the time this game comes stateside she’ll be 17, which is safe in Texas and a few other states.

Or he could just wait to play the game until 2013.

      • 16 is the age of consent for most of the US too.

Only a few assbackwards places like Cali have it at 18

    • Ladius

Why the need to sexualize everything?

I would understand your point if this was an eroge visual novel, but cant’ you relate to a 16-years old character without thinking about sexual implications that the game itself doesn’t contemplate?

  • I, personally, love idiots. /sarcasm

  • Matthew Emirzian

So if you fail at the game will she chew you out when you get a game over?

  • M’iau M’iaut

While you would think this means that yup she’s going to end up all tsun tsun for the MC, SMT has kept their leads away from the brilliant idiot trope.

That being said, the MC in the first Devil Survivor was no brain surgeon and Devil/Demi Kids was their take on shonen anime.

  • Historiata

  • I love this game so much and yet I haven’t even started day 3.

I can never seem to finish the game. Because I have a love-hate relationship with the battle system. Hate the SRPG style but like the combat.

  • Andrew Gossen

    Pulitzer winning characterization there, Atlus.

  • DDanny

And we are supposed to take her seriously? She’s 16 for YHVH’s sake…
In any case, hope we don’t end up with more Midoris this time around.

    • leadintea

Oh, God yes. Midori was such an idiot! I’m not one to hate video game characters, but Midori just pissed me off so much with the way she acted.
