This Speedy Gonzales Game Never Made It Past Concept Art

By Spencer . July 8, 2011 . 5:16pm

Faith and a .45 developer Deadline Games was trying to pitch a game based on Warner Bros. fastest mouse Speedy Gonzales. Mikaël Léger who worked at both studios shared this sketch for a proposed Speedy Gonzales game on his portfolio.

The unannounced Speedy Gonzales game was pitched sometime between 2008 and 2009. Léger also posted artwork for a pitch tied to a Sega license, also from Deadline Games. The only clue he gave was "tournament island." Any ideas?

And these character sketches are from a Microsoft license. I’m going to guess this was for something tied to Fable.

I recall a GameBoy speedy gonzales game that was tons of fun! It was like a sonic for gameboy! xD

    • DanteJones

Hell yeah! I played the crap out of that game.

Remember how you had to collect the cheese?  Ahh, great times.

Yes! I played that and the SNES game.

    Arriba Arriba, Andale Andale

  • FireCouch

I’m not surprised.  He is a pretty lame character as far as Loony Tunes go.

Well, I would have liked it for the fact that, we have no really good toon games this gen. I mean, I loved the Tiny Toon games for NES and SNES. Duck Tales for the NES was great as well…. I also remember the NES Roadrunner and Coyote game. Those were the days. It would really be refreshing to see something like those again with those characters. Heck, I would love to see a Tiny Toons PSN/XBL game make an appearance. Preferably, another platformer side scroller game.

The good o’ days. :D  That was certainly the age of license gaming.

Did you try out Duck Amuck on DS?  It is a decent minigame collection made by Wayforward and they did a nice job translating that cartoon into a game.

Good old days indeed. Licenesed games were so good their
either gave ‘true’ games a run for their money or outclassed them.
At least those designed by SEGA, Capcom or Konami.

Oh and I think Batman: the Brave and the Bold was an alright cartoon game.

      • Yukito

Nope, never even heard of it to be honest. I might give it a look soon then.

I was thinking the same thing. Some of my favorites were Tiny Toons Buster Busts Loose, Road Runner’s Death Valley Rally and Taz-Mania on SNES. Not just the games, but they don’t make toons like they used to either.

      I agree, I’d totally buy a PSN/XBL Tiny Toons game/re-release.

Hahaha, I totally thought those character designs were for Speedy Gonzales when I scrolled before reading.

Does that “Fable” thing make anyone else think of Neptune?
It looks too futuristic for Fable.
Speedy has a nice graphical style though.

I have no real idea what that “tournament island” thing was supposed to be. Classic Phantasy Star? Space Harrier?
Looks like Sim City concept art to me.

Speedy Gonzales concept art reminds me of Sonic & the Secret Rings and Unleashed.
