Namco’s Teaser Is For Brave Company, A Hero Simulation Game [Update: No, It’s not]

By Ishaan . July 12, 2011 . 6:41pm

Forget everything you guessed about Namco Bandai’s teaser site that went up last night. It isn’t .hack or Evangelion — it’s a Nintendo 3DS and iOS hero simulation game, according to this week’s Famitsu magazine.

Japanese retail blog, Sinobi, reports that the game, titled Brave Company, is developed by Cattle Call, who also developed Metal Max 3 for the Nintendo DS. In Brave Company, it’s your job to protect a city and keep the peace.

You play the role of the president of a hero-employment agency, and interview and hire heroes. Heroes can include characters like knights, archers, priests and wizards, and picking the right hero for the right job will increase your chances of success. The basic flow of the game goes something like this:

Hero recruitment > Dispatch > Return > Expansion of your hero agency

The music for the game is done by Professor Sakamoto, who’s an 8-bit musician that does performances wearing a Famicom over his head. Namco Bandai plan to release the game on the 3DS on October 27th. The iOS version will be out sooner in August.

Here’s a look at Professor Sakamoto, if you’re curious. He’s substituting for the in-game music and sound effects while someone plays Mario off the Famicom planted on his head:

Update: As some of our readers have rightly pointed out, the teaser website isn’t for Brave Company; it’s for a different game. We apologize for the error; harakiri is in order.

  • Wow, uhhh lol. Guess everyone was WAAAAAAY off on this one. ><

  • Tommy Lee

Hmm… I don’t know what to say other than that I’m interested.

  • KyoyaHibari

Crap, who knew lol, so it’s kind of like Tiger & Bunny I guess kool.

  • I want great games for my 3ds, thats all

  • JustaGenericUser

Those were the quickest 213 hours ever.

  • Shinji Kazuya

    LOOOL!!!! Awsome video! xD
Oh you Japanese folks always doing funny stuff! :3
Anyway, this game sounds quite interesting plus that awsome man is the composer. I’ll stay in touch with it’s news.

  • “It isn’t .hack -echoes echoes-” D:
    you failed me God! ;o;

  • Hero Simulation huh?

Can I finally be a real hero like in Zettai Hero Project?

    • Draparde

any one can be a real hero! Simulation hero!!

  • puchinri

So Tiger & Bunny, but you’re their boss and not actually either of them/another hero?

This should be interesting though. But those hero classes make it sound like something for a fantasy and not a modern and/or futuristic game. (Which is odd considering the site.)

  • AzureNova

So…… a .Hack hero simulation game right? Right guys? (Cries)

  • SeventhEvening

Isn’t this basically Rent-a-hero that Sega released a few years back? Not that I’m complaining. I feel so old though, I immediately thought back to Rent-a-hero on the dreamcast while everyone else is talking about some “Tiger and Bunny”

    • Enma_Kozato

Tiger & Bunny is an anime series where people with superpowers are hired by major companies to protect the city. Their exploits are aired on TV for all the citizens to watch. It’s a pretty interesting show

      • Lexaus_the_Alchemist

That show was the first thing that popped into my head. Corporate superheroes running around saving people like it’s a reality show. I kinda hope it’s different than that… Not saying Tiger and Bunny is bad, though.

      As did I.

It’s a shame we never got that game. It almost came to XBox but the publisher that took it went bankrupt

      • SeventhEvening

The interesting thing is the game still got finished, it just didn’t get released. You can actually find iso files of the English Xbox version. I modded my original xbox specifically to play it and Metal Wolf Chaos. Well, and to ply MKV files on my tv, but that’s another purpose all together.

  • mikanko

Video was pretty great seeing as it was done live.  The guy who does the in game sounds for DQ1 on violin is a favorite of mine, but I kinda wonder how many takes he took to get it right.

  • joesz

    Oh hack!

  • Guest

    “Hero simulation”
Wtf does that mean? What genre does this fall under? Some kinda of strategy game from the description I assume.

    • Exkaiser

“Simulation” in Japanese video game genre terms often means strategy. SRW, for example, is a “simulation” game.

However, without more information, it is impossible to say.

      • Guest

        Ah, got you. Thanks.

  • Suicunesol

So this game is apparently epic enough to warrant its own countdown site?

And the music is going to be in 8-bit? :/

  • DanteJones

Hmm, those classes are a bit old style for a more modern looking city, unless all the classes will have a modern look to them as well. This might end up being pretty cool, the concept at least sounds like it is. Gonna keep an eye on this one.

  • And you guys are sure this is the countdown game … how? Why would they put up a teaser site 2 days before a magazine reveals the game, when the teaser site ends the week after the magazine reveal?

  • A dispatch game? I wonder how in-depth this will be. I remember doing the whole ”
Hero recruitment > Dispatch > Return > Expansion of your hero agency” thing for Final Fantasy Tactics Advance (2). I guess I’ll have to wait and see.

  • LynxAmali

When I read the title, I though it was was going to be a New Century Brave Wars or Brave Saga sequel….
    but iOs? Really?

    This isn’t getting localized.

    • Guest

       That woulda been nice.

I liked the PS1 games but the PS2 one was freakin hard

  • Rihawf

    No .hack = dissapointment.

    • theworldofnoboundries

Don’t be like that. U should be happy that they created new IP rather than keep milking the same IP.

  • theworldofnoboundries

Hero Agency??? Is this Tiger and Bunny? as how Bandai was in the anime.

  • BK0000

I just saw the scan for Brave Company. It’s not the game they’re teasing here. The image in that teaser is a modern city. Brave Company appears to be a fantasy/medieval setting.
