A Closer Look At What’s In The Dragon Quest Anniversary Collection

By Ishaan . July 13, 2011 . 10:00am

You may recall a post last month where we reported the contents of the Dragon Quest Anniversary Collection in Japan. One of bonus goodies (pictured to the right) is a reprinted 130-page strategy guide for all three games from the Famicom days. It also includes developer roundtables. This is a first-print bonus only.

Amongst the other goodies in the package are newly-created anime openings for Dragon Quest I, II and III, produced by Kamikaze Douga, the studio that produced the animation for Dragon Quest IX. These are on a disc along with a trailer for Dragon Quest X.

Here’s a glimpse at a couple of the scenes from these new opening movies, along with screenshots of the respective games:

Dragon Quest II

Dragon Quest III

What about the medallion? That’s in there, too. It’s 28mm in size, and like the strategy guide, is a first-run bonus:

Also included as part of the collection is a digital set of art and materials from the games’ development. Square Enix have the 25th anniversary Dragon Quest Anniversary Collection slated for release on September 15th.

      Okay, you following me here?

Like, there’s this young man, and he’s designed by Akira Toriyama, and he’s immune to curses for some reason.

And he goes on an adventure. And he makes some friends. And then they poke around in crates for gold.

It really is too bad that america’s not likely to get this. But at least the Dragon Quest X trailer will wind up on youtube when it comes out, so that’s something.

  • Never was a fan of Dragon Quest, but here’s hoping fans of the franchise can get this.

      • I know I know. It’s hard to imagine that my taste in games is perfect. XD

    • How could that be? I mean seriously, what could one not like about flawless gems like DQ?!

      • You forgot the /sarcasm part of your message! ^.~

I’m not sure what opening animations will add to these games.  They sure didn’t add anything to the games of Final Fantasy Anthology.

I’d consider getting this if it came down in price.  But, now if I revisit a Dragon Quest game I think it’d be VII.

I’m hoping for a North American release myself. I mean, these games were already translated at least twice. I don’t see why SE/Nintendo WOULDN’T release it over here.

    • If it did come over, I’d love to see new translations for the SFC remakes. They could use the Game Boy ones if they really wanted, but I’d llike something done by the modern translation team.

  • might have to import this just to get this collectors bag >.<

  • looks wonderfull

You just know someone’s gonna horde them all and bring them back to the Medal King for some prize.
