An Ensemble Of Theatrhythm: Final Fantasy Screenshots

Theatrhythm: Final Fantasy has three types of sections: Fields, Battles and Events, each with their own play style. In the more relaxed Field mode, you’ll hear music from the fields, towns and dungeons of the series’ games:

Battle mode is a little busier, and you’ll move up to controlling and coordinating a four-man party:

And finally, a look at the game’s menus:

Characters in Theatrhythm: Final Fantasy level up using “Rizupo” (rhythm points). Tetsuya Nomura is overseeing the game as its creative producer, while Retro Game Challenge developer, IndiesZero, handle development. It’s slated for release sometime this winter on the Nintendo 3DS.

  • It looks like environments could use a bit more, otherwise, Im sold.

I read that this game was originally meant for the DS, then they switched to the 3DS, which is probably why it’s like that.

      • Darn thats just lazy, I cant wait until we finally get original made for 3DS concepts instead of just late gen ds games moved over :(

        • To be fair the art direction hides any last gen rust.  While I”m sure in motion it’ll look better the environments are “appropriately fitting yet bland looking”.

it was taken off the ds beacause the ds did not have enough power for the game.

  • This is a cool idea Square Enix.

  • I love the KH Mobile-style characters. If this works, I want a Dance Dance Revolution on 3DS or PS Vita. I need to work out my thumbs. ;)

  • This looks amazing.  Hopefully localization shouldn’t take too long, I need something to play on my 3DS (other than DS games)!

  • I’m a sucker for rhythm games, so I’ll probably check it out. But first that would require both its localization and me to have a 3DS at all…

  • I can’t wait for this game to get localized.. if it does. I’m a sucker for cute FF games.

    • I would think localization is a no brainer. It’s a Final Fantasy game and it’s for a system that’s in dire need of quality games.

Being that it’s a rhythm game I would also guess that the amount of content that actually needs to be translated is very little in comparison to your typical game, though I don’t know the full extent of Theatrhythm’s content.

It’s being headed up by Tetsuya Nomura, so you can rest assured that some sort of lengthy, overly complex and nonsensical storyline will be involved.

    • I imagine it will definitely be localized. FF brand is too strong to ignore.

  • SetzerGabbiani

I’m ready to see more characters.

  • Soooo cute!! I loveeee the chibi look!!!! :3

  • Learii

the battle system look bad FF with music lol

  • Rihawf

It looks simple but charming, the game is not that bad. Let us give a chance, people.

    wait… time?? fffffffffffffffffffffffffffffff-

  • xflame10

menus look sorta boring…… lets inject some seizure-inducing flashing neon lights into there!!!!!

Mark my words – this will be a great game.

May just be a cult hit, may bring Final Fantasy back, who knows.

And I don’t even like rhythm games all that much, is the weird thing.

But I am pumped for this game.

  • not my thing, here’s hoping SE will remake VI for the 3DS

The four tracks you have to control makes me wonder if it’ll play anything like Frequency & Amplitude.  Which would be amazing, since I *still* play those to this day.
