What Ryu Will Be Like In Tekken X Street Fighter

tekkenxsf We know quite a bit about Street Fighter X Tekken, the Capcom developed crossover game with Nina and Cammy. It’s due for release next year and playable builds were shown at conventions like E3 and more recently EVO.

What we don’t know much about is Tekken X Street Fighter, which is being developed by Namco Bandai. Since Yoshinori Ono, producer of Street Fighter X Tekken, added elements from Tekken into his game, I asked Tekken series producer Katsuhiro Harada how he’s going to develop Tekken X Street Fighter.

"Hmm… trying to recreate Street Fighter into our engine wouldn’t please the fans of Street Fighter or Tekken. Instead, I’ll make this game more Tekken-like," Harada answered in a Siliconera interview. "I’ll probably give Ryu more up close techniques when he’s put into our game. The Tekken characters have a whole lot of techniques compared to Street Fighter so we’ll add more cool moves and variations. It’s still the Ryu everyone knows, but with that added to him."

Development on Tekken X Street Fighter isn’t in full swing. Harada-san said the team has not started prototyping yet and they have to do that first before defining how the game will play.

Don’t worry Ryu will still be able to throw fireballs. "Oh, and Ryu will still have his hadokens," Harada assured.

    need screenshots…

Oh and please no guest characters

    (unless it’s Kenshiro)

I’m not that big on Tekken games =O last one i played was 3 i think lol. but Tekken X Street Fighter is the one I’m more interested in at the moment. maybe its just because we’re being spoiled with Street fighter X Tekken pics/trailers from capcom.

  • I’m not complaining. Ryu should’ve learned more techniques the past 20 years. :)

But seriously, I’d love to see how fleshed out the SF characters will be. And the fireballs will probably just be slow unblockable moves.

I’m really looking forward to TxSF more than SFxT, but I am pretty curious about how they’ll handle SF characters.

I definitely wanna see which direction they’ll go with this one. I certainly want the combo system I know and love from Tekken but with the special moves from Street Fighter (toned down at least.)

  • I don’t like hearing that the game hasn’t begun production yet. I realize that they’re working on Tekken Tag 2 and the Hybrid whatchamacallit, but fighting games – especially ones they’re still figuring out how it should work – take extra long to nail. What with animations, balancing issues, and content. They need to nail this thing; time to shift some resources around, if you ask me.

I hope, at least, they have some models completed, rigged and ready for animation at this point…

They’ve got Tekken Tag 2, Tekken Wii U, Tekken 3D, and Hybrid all in production right now.  The fact that anyone has been able to begin work on Tekken X Streetfighter is a wonder.

I wouldn’t be worried though.  There’s no deadline on this project yet.  If the release was imminent then I might share your worries, but Namco has made it clear that this game won’t be out for a while.  With that in mind, there’s nothing to worry about.

  • It won’t be thaaaat hard to include Hadoukens into the Tekken engine.

I mean, imagine Ryu throwing one, then the other character will have to dodge it moving left or right (since jumping in Tekken is kinda useless), which opens defense and takes valuable time, giving Ryu an opportunity to counterattack. I’m just saying.
Projectiles in the pro community are not just spam-fireballs, they use it to open a path to attack.

now, I’m waiting for Ryu’s 10 hit combos

I think is more intrests me then street fighter x tekken mainly due to fact we know how it will play like every single 2D Capcom fighter. This on other hand is harder to get right but if it does could blow fighting games out of water for a long time.
