wwkazuya01Tekken 3D is actually Tekken 3D Prime Edition, Namco Bandai announced today. The Nintendo 3DS version of Tekken also includes the animated movie Tekken Blood Vengeance on the cart in stereoscopic 3D.

Tekken 3D Prime Edition has over 40 characters with new stages made for just for the game. Other stages will be redesigned for the Nintendo 3DS. Namco Bandai also confirmed Tekken 3D Prime Edition will have Wi-Fi functionality, likely for online play.

Here’s a look at a few of the fighters – Alisa, Asuka, Bryan, Heihachi, Kazuya, Lili, and Xiaoyu.

    Those stages Ughhh!! :3

  • Kitsune Miku

Woah! The movie too?! Thats pretty awesome what they can fit on those carts! Well impressed! This will probably be something I grab when I finally get my 3DS.

  • XypherCode

    very nice!!!

At least they have the guts to release real screen shots (400 x 240 pixels), taken from a perspective you actually see and play the game from. I like that way better than bullshots rendered at HD resolutions with all that modern image processing stuff.

    This is awesome!!!

Just give me the game come on gimme gimme.

  • XypherCode

    really cool!
the screens look very nice but I think i like DOAD’s rendering better. got to play this and see anyways :D

I agree in everything. Also 40 playable characters sounds good to me.

Wow, NamcoBandai has been awesome the past few months. Glad they finally decided to  rejoin the US/EU gaming market.

  • Exkaiser

    Looks pretty good, graphically.

…But, of course, my last Tekken experience was Tekken 2, so it’s not like I have a lot of Iron Fist experience to compare it to.

    • Guest

You didnt even play Tekken 3? Weird

      • Exkaiser

Yeah, I wasn’t much of a fighting game person back in the Playstation days, so I only rented the second game and never touched the series after that, apart from once or twice in the arcades.

  • kylehyde

Thanks so much siliconera for posting those pics, I mean, in other sites that I saw the new about this game, the images looked very chopped, but your images look really well. Now I’m more sure about this game.

  • Shinji Kazuya

Holy snap! More reasons ta get a 3DS keep popping up! AWSOME!

There is something REALLY scary going on with Asuka’s arms there.  It’s kind of creeping me out :|

      Yeah just noticed also.

    Lili is weird…

So Tekken 3D Prime Edition is… Tekken Tag 2 characters without Tag system and possibly missing some characters, plus special stages because the developers can’t make 3DS handle those multi-tiered stages with gimmicks?

I… actually like it. Tag system may have steeper learning curve, plus all those stage gimmicks may change the game play (notice in Street Fighter the backgrounds are just decorations?). And yet because the characters are TTT2 version, I can still apply what I learn in 3DS version to TTT2 in PS3/arcades.

I gotta say though, the stages are a bit too… colorful, but I guess that’s because they contrast with Tekken 6 stages.

  • daizyujin

So this is a whole new game then?  It don’t look specifically like Tekken 6 or Tekken Tag Tournament 2.

Comes with the movie on the cart?  Must be a rather large cart.  Nice to see them doing this but I can’t imagine watching a full length 3D movie on this small screen having to hold my head straight for 90+ minutes.  (I also have seen the movie and frankly I am not sure the 3D really added much to it.)

Looking forward to this even more now. The 3DS has turned into my fighting system.  Street Fighter 4, Dead Or Alive, and now Tekken. Now I just need a version of Marvel vs  Capcom, and Street Fighter Vs Tekken.

  • thebanditking

I’ll pass on this, I was already getting the movie with the PS3 release (Tekken Tag HD!) but honestly I am not seeing the value in this. Unless they are using some serious “magic” compression method (as 3DS carts don’t go over 2GB to my knowledge) the movie will be badly pixelated and for me the 3DS screen is way too small for watching lengthy movies.

    • stealthgiga

They could opt for a higher capacity cart? That’s one possibility.

But I agree about how it’s not as valuable.

MSG:SE-3D is confirmed to be using a 4GB Cart. The Cart Manufacturer for 3DS stated that its compatible with Carts up to 8GB in size… so i doubt they are having any space issues, the options are now there. 2-4GB anyway….

    • Suicunesol

Videos on the 3DS don’t really look pixelated at all, though. From what I’ve seen using Netflix and the video app, there’s minor artifacting issues when there’s lots of black on the screen, but otherwise they look fine. And considering the movie will be on a cart rather than being streamed, there’s a possibility that the image quality might even be excellent.

And, yeah. Carts can go at least 4GB, if not more. MG3 is proof of this, though I imagine only major releases get to use bigger carts.

Wow, now I’m even MORE forced to buy a 3DS…

Some quality titles are really coming out in the future!

too lighting, everyone looks oiled up

    • fanoultimate

pretty much this. they look more like plastic characters rather than human characters

  • Suicunesol

Does anyone else think the character models could use a little more work? I feel like DoA:D and SF4 looked a little better than this.

I heard that Bando Namcai was shooting for 60fps with 3D, so that could be their excuse…

  • http://twitter.com/Vanpan110494 Sentoro Katarashi

……Why does this game make characters look like dolls and action figures?

  • PrinceHeir

can we get the stages in the upcoming Tekken Tag 2 please!!! :P
