Is Square Enix’s 774 Deaths A Localized Version Of Nanashi No Game?

By Spencer . February 10, 2012 . 3:32pm

Is Square Enixs 774 Deaths A Localized Version Of Nanashi No Game?Square Enix recently filed a trademark for 774 Deaths in Europe for use with video games. Before anyone ties it to Hitman or another Eidos intellectual property it’s not from Square Enix Europe. 774 Deaths is a Square Enix Japan project.

This is a personal guess, but 774 Deaths might be a localized version of Nanashi no Game, a horror series where players pick up a cursed RPG. See, "nana" is seven in Japanese and "shi" is four. "Nanashi" could be simply written as "774" too and Nanashi no Game is about a game that kills you in seven days so there’s death in it…

Perhaps, Square Enix will localize and release the iPhone game Nanashi no App? It’s not so far-fetched especially considering Square Enix considered releasing Nanashi no Game overseas, but focus group testing halted the project.

Ooh, I hope so. Isn’t this the one they didn’t bring over because “Americans only like shooting stuff?”

If it is Nanashi no Game, then it’s good to see Square Enix giving things a chance, regardless of what focus groups say.

Ick, I kind of hope it isn’t the iPhone version, if only because touch controls and platforming do not go together well.

Pleasepleaseplease!!  Maybe if Europe gets it and it does well, the US may get it despite test groups… but if they get the DS game, considering the 3DS… :(

Speaking about Nanashi game makes me remember….. BURN FOCUS GROUP TILL DEATH!!!!!

Yeah, they’ll most likely localize the IPhone app. I wanted the DS game but I’m okay with this, I’m okay with this indeed :)

A man can dream, right? I’ll keep wearing my Player Pin until I see my next game.

In that case, why isn’t it just “74″? Nana + Shi = 74, right? 774 sounds like an airplane.

Fun fact. 74 in chinese means to “go die”. =)

      It’s a play on words.

Na-nashi no Game = Nameless Game, but we knew that already.

Na[na]na[na]shi becomes 774 Deaths (The second Na’s are considered implied/dropped, and Shi takes a double meaning of Four and Death.)

It’s kind of a stretch, but we did wordplays whenever the Japanese exchange students would come over, so I’ve seen/heard similar ones.

Please be the DS version too, that would be mean to deny us then give it to the iphone gamers.. =/
Not to say I won’t pick it up when I do own a iphone just saying.

I’ve been wanting to see Nanashi no Game in the US for a long time. Great soundtrack! ;D

Well it is just Europe for right now.

I wish the 3DS allowed you to download full games. A game like Nanashi No Game would be an ideal title in that format if they don’t want to release it in retail, like Corpse Party on PSN.
I’ll take it on iPhone, too. (even if I have to make a Euro account :<)
