Rayman Legends Leaked For Wii U, Watch The First Trailer Inside [Update]

By Ishaan . April 27, 2012 . 8:30am

French website, Gamkult, have leaked a trailer for Ubisoft’s next Rayman title, Rayman Legends. While it isn’t confirmed which consoles Rayman Legends will appear on, the trailer in question is specifically for the Wii U version of the game and shows off exclusive Wii U features.

This includes the ability to use the touch screen on the controller to perform certain functions, and the trailer also shows off the Wii U controller’s NFC (near field communication) feature by demonstrating what effect it has on the game if you place figurines based on Ubisoft’s characters on the touch screen.

You can watch the trailer for Rayman Legends above.

Update: Ubisoft have provided a statement regarding the leaked trailer, which you can read below:

“An internal video showing images of Rayman Origins’ sequel has leaked over the Internet. This video was intended as a purely internal demonstrative video, and in NO way represents the final game, the final console or their features.

This video was destined for internal production teams who often create game prototypes with work in progress development kits. Ubisoft confirms the development of Rayman Legends handled by Michel Ancel and his team in Montpellier.”

This is a Wii U with Rayman in it? (note: never had played a Rayman in my whole life. Only tried the Rayman Origins Demo on Steam. Loved it).
    ……….

I AM SO GETTING A WII U! :D C’mon Nintendo, tell us the release date already!
I’m so getting this if this a launch title. Seriously… Ezio in Rayman? Rabids? SWEET! And multiplayer fun?! Online? SWEETER!

Today I left for school going “Ho hum, guess everything’s going to go quiet until E3″.

Come home, suddenly we get more Wii U news, Playstation All Stars is real and there’s a gorgeous new Rayman platformer on the horizon with some sort of Assassin’s Creed thing teased that makes me all giggly inside.

    Today is a good day.

  • malek86

The more I look at it, the more this NFC functionality looks like a clever way of doing a sort of DLC. Want to play the extra Assassin’s Creed-based level? Instead of paying $10 for the DLC, you just pay $10 for the statuette which you’ll put on the controller. And of course, this means the content has to be coded inside the game from the start… I can imagine how pleased the on-disc DLC detractors will be.

But hey, if this is anything like Skylanders, at least statuettes can be used across different versions of the game. And I guess collectors will be pleased with their toys on the shelf.

As for the game itself, it looks epic enough. Although personally, I’d still rather see a return to the slower pace and precise platforming of Rayman 1, but I know many people don’t exactly agree with me here.

    • Barrylocke89

Rayman 1 was test in sadism, in a good way. I was never able to beat it legit though. Rayman Origins and this game both look cool, and get major points for some of the best 2d action I’ve seen in a game in a good while.

      • malek86

I guess Ubisoft thinks the same, seeing as the more recent versions (GBA and DSiWare) have decreased the difficulty level.

But I beat the original PC version without a guide and without using continues, and I still consider it one of my strongest achievements in gaming. Especially because the Gamespot reviewer said it just couldn’t be done… hah!

    Wow, that’s really cool…

Man, I loved the hell outta Origins. Hope this one is even better.

  • http://profiles.google.com/zferolie A.J. Ferolie

Ok, this looks pretty cool. I like the idea of placing objects on the screen to include them in the game. Like Malek said, could be a very cool alternative to DLC.

If I get a Wii U, I’ll get this game.

    • malek86

On one hand, it could be worse than DLC because it might actually have a higher price (since you’re paying for the statuette as well). Skylanders figures aren’t exactly cheap.

On the other hand, it could be better than DLC because it can be used across different versions of the game, and you can even use them on a friend’s console.

Then again, perhaps Ubisoft could make it so that every statuette is linked to the account/console that first used it. I wouldn’t put it past them, these are the same guys behind the always-online DRM in AC2 :/

  • Go2hell66

i’m not impressed, but maybe that’s just because i didn’t like origins either, i’d like to see a game that really shows the console’s graphical potential

    • James Beatty

Well i don’t think a 2D game is going to do that on any platform.

    • XiaomuArisu

I beg to differ. Its a 2D game a beautiful 2D game its look like a crazy cartoon, which is playable.Sure its doenst look like halo or (insert pretty 3D games here)but it has a unique and stunning look and the gameplay is fun.

    • Vyrus

Then, why don’t you just play PC if all you want to see is “graphical potential?”

  • takopako

this looks really good. and i think the trailer showed some pretty good graphics, if, in fact, is was stream from the actual wii-u. either way,, it is shaping up for me, and i will be getting it.. XD

  • KHSoraKeyBlade

I’ve been playing Rayman Origins on the Vita recently and it is amazing, so I’m definitely going to jump into this game.

  • Suicunesol

I haven’t played a Rayman since I was in elementary… but I like the way it looks. I have to say, it doesn’t look terribly difficult.

…for some reason, I can easily imagine the next Super Smash Brothers utilizing statuettes to put characters in the game. Remember in Melee how every character was some kind of statuette that came to life? Yeah, Nintendo would do that…

Not that I’m against it. I like figures, but I can’t bring myself to buy them because of their impracticality. But now, they actually have a purpose!

  • ShawnOtakuSomething

Ezio in  the new Rayman game for the wii-u …… why? who cares why its bloody awesome!!!!lol I would love to see Mario in a Rayman game just by putting a Mario toy on the pad

  • SLick123456789111

The only thing I’m iffy on is the extra fluff , like the statues & if touch control will be mandatory on Wii U.
If touch control isn’t mandatory , I’ll get this on a Wii U instead of my ps3.
(Loved Origins btw. Still have it.)

    • Vyrus

No one ever says that you need either of those… -_-

  • Klaus00

    lol’d at their facial expressions

  • http://www.facebook.com/people/Diego-Oliveira/100000756451135 Diego Oliveira

This looks great, but is it really only for the Wii U? I can’t see why the PS3 wouldn’t be able to work with those graphics. At least the words “Wii U exclusive content” give me hope, since they imply this game will be available for systems other than the Wii U. Also, hopefully this sequel will have an actual plot and final boss.

  • http://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=100000172099718 Dominic Hunter

    So happy this exists.
So ANGRY it exists as an exclusive for this system.

    • AuraGuyChris

Truthfully speaking, 2-D platformers are far common in Nintendo games.

    • daizyujin

Nobody has said the game is going to be exclusive.  While it is true that they are showing off the game’s Wii U exclusive features, I find it hard to believe that Ubisoft would put this kind of money into a game on a system that is not even out yet and may or may not even sell, especially considering the original is on everything under the sun.

      • malek86

As a matter of fact, if they say “Wii U exclusive content”, it implies that it will also come out on other platforms, without the exclusive content of course.

  • http://www.facebook.com/people/Joachim-Varne/1640586412 Joachim Varne

I may be the only one here, but I think a retail price on 2D games as long and fun as this series it totally worth it. Ecspecially when it comes with a limited edition, it was fantastic!

  • jakxzero

its been 3 weeks since i beat the Origins on my vita and i really loved this old scholl side scroll i will like to see this on the vita too

  • ShadowWolf

when i saw him grab Ezio and about to place in on the Tablet, i was all like “Oh yeah!”

the Rabbids………..kinda, cause you then get to beat the everloving ‘censored’ out of them.

  • Göran Isacson

    Ezio in Rayman world.

I never knew I needed this until this trailer showed me the light.

    • heartless141

nothing is true though, nothing is true. could just be a
“what if i put this on?”

  • RupanIII

Awesome! Also refreshing to know that 2d platformers can still get sequels these days. I never understood why more devs haven’t taken current technology and applied it to classic gameplay like this

  • brian yep

So its platforms aren’t confirmed yet.
I think it’d probably be all of them, since Origins was on pretty much every console possible iirc.

  • Setsu Oh

    WTF????
is ubisoft tied to Dreamworks in anyway?
what is the theme(?) of HOW TO TRAIN YOUR DRAGON doing there??
    - the devs didn’t know what to put as music in that trailer so used that (but is the soundtrack out? how did they got that theme if not?)
-there is a tie in with HTTYD 2 or
    -dragons inside or
-something to do with hinting at heroes/dragons figures being used on the tablet
-ubisoft is working on the game of HTTYD
