Xseed Picks Up PlayStation Vita Games Ragnarok Odyssey And Orgarhythm

By Spencer . May 4, 2012 . 12:10am

ro1aXseed Games has two more PlayStation Vita games in the pipeline. The publisher announced they will localize Ragnarok Odyssey and Acquire’s music/strategy game Orgarhythm. We’re not surprised at the latter since Xseed shares the Orgarhythm copyright with Acquire.

Ragnarok Odyssey is an action game meets Monster Hunter multiplayer style game. Developer Game Arts recently added new features like online play and extra missions to the Japanese release post launch.

Both titles are slated for release in 2012 along with Ys: Origin (PC), Unchained Blades (PSP & 3DS), Way of the Samurai 4 (PS3), and The Last Story (Wii).

Thanks for the tips Johan and Isabella!

    I already knew! :D

  • well, that’s interesting!

Wish the game had a Mage/Fighter class though

so few action RPGs do that

    • SirTeffy

They do… Mage is in with all the classic spells, from Storm Gust to Jupitel Thunder!

      •  I think you missed the fighter part of that equation. . .

        • SirTeffy

Watch a gameplay video of Mage, it’s probably EXACTLY what you’re thinking of there.

  • Ragnarok Odyssey! Xseed your the best! :D

  • Phlo

They’re kind of taking a risk on the Vita, aren’t they? Well, I hope this works out well for them.

  • Once again thank you XSEED, and while I love my psychical copies. If you guys go digital for either or both titles, I’m okay with that. As long as I and everyone else gets to play these games in the end, I think that’s all that matters.

  • Yesshua

This is good!  The Vita needs more games right now (not being super negative here, all systems need more games in their first few months), I think these are both new IP, and one of them is an RPG!  New RPGs often take a while to start appearing on new systems because of all the content in them, so it’s good to hear about Ragnarok.  The 3DS, in comparison, is still not attracting a ton of RPG goodness even a year after release.

    •  Actually Ragnarok Odyssey isn’t a new IP, it’s the same Ragnarok as Ragnarok Online (anyone remember Ragnarok DS, it was also published by XSEED).

  • JazzyMan123

A big thanks to the folks at the forums and everywhere else who managed to get this noticed and localized!

  • Go2hell66

finally some decent games rolling in

  • d19xx

    Xseed’s apology for GKH. :)

    • Still wanted GKH for my PSP, but this is a nice trade-off! ^_^

Good thing the PSP and VITA and region-free! Though I think I need to look at some videos of both games.

    • Er, XSEED shouldn’t be apologizing for that. It’s all Vanillaware’s fault.

  • RaikageV

I played the Ragnarok Odyssey Demo and I liked it.
I’m glad they’re bringing this and Unchain Blades overseas.
However, I would be even more glad if they also released it in Europe.

  • Hooray! That is a lot of games on their plate. I still kind of hope that Legend of Heroes gets a PC release sometime soon, although it’s looking very likely that I might just have to finally download my PSP copy onto the VITA.

Ragnarok is really exciting. The demo does a damn good job of showcasing exactly what I would love to see more of on the VITA. Gorgeous, multiplayer character action games where I can use the right analog stick for the camera and never ever ever have to adopt THE CLAW again.

  • Syltique

I want to get both.  I’m a proud Vita owner in need of some kickass games.  But I would love it even more if these had physical releases, because if any system out there is gouging on memory right now, it’s Vita.

Either way, this is good news.

    • PoweredByHentai

If there’s any system out there that’s being a huge anti-consumer dick, that would the 3DS with its region-locking crap.

      • Herok

That’s why hacks are made and besides when I decide to get a JP 3ds it gives me an excuse to buy a special edition one.

        • Hackers are more interested in Vita than 3DS, which is why the thing’s already a year old and has yet to be hacked.

          • Herok

well then I have nothing to say on that matter in that case

          • I think the reason why there’s not been much on the hacks is that Nintendo can detect a modified 3DS and brick it remotely, from what I’ve heard.

    • Herok

I know what you mean, I had one 2 GB psp memory stick and fit everything on there but now I have a vita and just a few demos nearly take up my 8 GB.

  • CycloneFox

Thank you so much xseed for all those greT localizations such als trails in th sky. I will absolutely buy ragnarok odyssey.

  • I guess this explains where their resources are going now.

    Still pretty cool.

  • Luna Kazemaru

     Well played.

    • JazzyMan123

       Yes, well played indeed….

  • i’d rather be playing grand knights story, but thanx anyway!

    • Hraesvelgr

There isn’t anything they can do about Grand Knights History, anyway…

  • Ragnarok Odyssey?Awesome.
But still,i want my God Eater 3[not a big fan of MH] for PSVita.
p.s.question is,can i play online with US version[import ftw] on EU PSVita?

    • PoweredByHentai

Yes.  Assuming that they integrate the online multiplayer patch into the US cartridge.  I have the Japanese cartridge so I had to wait for the online multiplayer patch to roll out in the game’s Live Area page, which it has.  :D

  • Ladius

I will be there for Ragnarok Odyssey, I was waiting for that announcement :D

    • JazzyMan123

Were you on the XSeed forums? A user got the news early and posted it ASAP on the forums before this announcement.

  • kool_cid414

Haven’t really wanted to get the vita due to the current lack of games, price of system and memory card but these recent announcements might change my mind. I better find a job ( Not that I wasn’t looking in the first place)

  • YES!
Now I have a reason to get the vita now!
Look out ragnarok, here I come!!

  • Uhm…. YAAAY? *go look up on Ragnarok Odyssey*

  • Still not convinced to get a Vita.

    • No one will miss you for that. *sigh*

      Nice VP Avatar though.

    • icecoffemix

Same here, still need moar interesting game.

Oh I will definitely get this when I get Vita though.

    • MrRobbyM

Gotta agree with you there. Same for the 3DS though. Given since they’re both fairly new. Give me a Final Fantasy and a Pokemon on them and we just might have a deal.

  • Nice! I was interest in picking up this game and now I can play the game in my native language, awesome!

I can’t wait to play it! It’s sad when I have only two VITA games so far for my VITA.

    • Last year I bought a 3DS in June and didn’t get a game until September :(

  • Having RO coming overseas is like a dream come true. I’m not sure people realize the risk Xseed takes in localizing a game for a system with modest a userbase and belonging to a genre that was never overly popular in the West but you all better thank tham properly~.

  • Shinji Kazuya

    HELL YES!!!!!

  • TheBlackKnight3

    We… we won…

    • thebanditking

Thanks XSEED! As with all of your previous releases I will support this, and I know both of my other Vita owning friends will as well. I just get a little forlorn at times, its hard to get your voice heard on the net by companies (not like thats a big change though) so I apologize for jumping the gun here.

      • JazzyMan123

         Dude, nothing’s been announced yet.

  • jc0111

XSEED get 2 new titles to deal with, but canceled Grand Knights History due to lack of resources ? How does that work ???

    • Julien_N

It is not XSEED’s fault if GNH ended up canceled, they translated the script and had done their part of the job. You should blame Vanillaware as they were supposed to place XSEED’s translation into the game’s source code.

If only XSEED could pick up Senran Kagura…=O

    • Xseed did not cancel GKH due to lack of resources, get your facts straight. They even stated they had the script 100% done, which means resources did their part. The problem lied on Vanillaware’s end~.

    • JazzyMan123

The problem with GKH was that XSeed finished the English Translation but Vanillaware was too busy with DC and couldn’t spare the resources to finalize GKH.

    • Julien_N

Ah ha, with those 3 quick answers, which are all contained in a 10-minute time-frame, you definitely have all the data you need! XD

  • the greatest news for vita.. woooooh. i’m really excited.!

  • love Xseed. i think i’m in love …. LOL (I lol but it’s true)

  • Auragar

Yes!!!!  Now we just need Innocence R and I believe every game currently out it coming out on vita in japan is coming here. I might be wrong on rat but I that that’s right for me. However if we get Type-0 I would be set for Sony I believe.

  • Ravage27

    God bless Xseed

  • jujubee88

“Ragnarok Odyssey” coming to US is the awesome-est! Chucking in some “Orgarhythm” in the same day is like a chef Emeril Lagasse “BANG!” for good measure.

  • JazzyMan123

Great, just wondering when you would show up Mr. ‘Blame XSeed for everything and hears what he only wants to hear’.

You are now welcome to defend yourself.

    • Don’t blame him and thebanditking. They are really good at repeating the same post over and over again.

      • JazzyMan123

Both of em’ pretty much cemented their reputation as DD-haters in a lot of peoples minds already, so yeah, being a parrot will do that.

        • Not even that man. I’d say cemented parrots. The world moves on, only they stand still.

      • PoweredByHentai

I was just wondering if Neal and bandit are the same person.

        • JazzyMan123

That’s a nice theory, would explain a lot.

        • thebanditking

Nope, I don’t do that kind of thing. Look guys/gals we are going to have to agree to disagree honestly aside from my recent ranting about digital games I am here for the same reasons you are, because we love Japanese games. I just want to see them get the respect and shelf space they deserve. As I said before I am old school and I just don’t like how the industry is progressing anymore. Gaming is probably my oldest hobby and I don’t want that to change but there comes a time when something you like changes too much for you to be a part of it anymore. Perhaps thats not the case for a lot of you yet but we can all agree (I think) that digital distribution has not been 100% positive for gaming or any media because of the stringent policies that in some way keep you from content that is yours.

  • XiaomuArisu

Ragbarok Odyssey aka Devil May Cry/Monster Hunter.
Surprised that capcom didnt made a Devil Hunter.

  • thebanditking

As above I was wrong to jump to a conclusion and so retract my comment.

    • JazzyMan123

       And here comes tweedledee.

      • thebanditking

Yes because I’m sure you have no bias towards anything. We all have opinions if your fine with digital only releases thats cool, but I’m not. That said I understand why XSEED has chosen to go a more digital route, I am just mad/sad that its come to that. Keep in mind that its not all DD that I am against I buy PSone games and XBL/PSN games all the time, I just don’t like full retail games only getting a digital release.

        • JazzyMan123

Well, glad you can be reasonable (sometimes) though I admit some of comments kinda gave the users here the impression that you were whining.

Though XSEED aren’t completely digital just there are some business reasons leaving them with the choice of DD or nothing at all due to NDAs and such.

  • thebanditking

I would like to apologize for jumping to a conclusion before letting the news fully get out, I simply just don’t like the digital business model. That said in reality my disappointment was never solely directed at XSEED but rather how gaming is treating Japanese developed games these days.

    • JazzyMan123

Well, don’t like don’t buy it and if you really hate XSeed so much, why are you even here?

Besides nothing’s been announced yet, so let’s all stop jumping the gun until then.

      • Luna Kazemaru

Its better to just ignore him.

        • JazzyMan123

I usually try but kinda get angry at these sort haters shoving this kind of stuff down our throats on anything related to XSeed.

          • Really makes you wonder why they haven’t added the feature to ignore some comments here.

          • Luna Kazemaru

Because War and bad logic is fun to look at when the time is right :D.

          • Luna Kazemaru

Yeah but him and I think like two others always to that even when its not Xseed so its best to just let it be I mean opinions are nice right :D.

Anyway.. Haters going to hate is all I got to say more vita games the better.

          • If they stopped doing digital only, we wouldn’t have reason to complain.

          • JazzyMan123

Doesn’t mean you need to go on and on about how you hate the company and such and shove it down our throats.

          • No one’s saying they hate the company, they’re saying they don’t want digital releases. We’d support the company if they released physical games.

            Big difference.

          • JazzyMan123

They haven’t even announced anything yet and we’re just going have to wait and see…

XSeed went through all this trouble to get the game in the first place and this is the ‘thanks’ they get. Sheesh.

          • They never said that they’re going digital only. Just that a majority of releases will have to be done digitally.

Exact quote from Tom about a month ago:
“Whenever we set about releasing a game, we always — without exception — look into these two things first and foremost:

            – Does it have voice-acting? If so, can we include both English and Japanese?

            – Can we release it both physically and digitally?

We then crunch the numbers and check on licensing and rights issues and
budgets and such… and THAT’S what influences our decisions.

Like we always say, we do our best to please the fans… but there’s only so much we can do!”

            Source is here: http://xseedgames.com/forums/showthread.php?1601-End-of-XSeed-retail-releases&p=54106&viewfull=1#post54106

          • Besides, Hatsuu just revealed on twitter that Ragnarok Odyssey will have a physical release:

            How is that “digital only?”

    •  Such as you like to shove down our throats that you hate DD Releases in every news concerning XSEED. Do you see a pattern here, buddy ?

      •  Unfortunately it’s a pattern of *needless* digital releases from XSeed.

        • JazzyMan123

Similar to both of your patterns?

          • If they keep doing it, people will still complain. Obviously not everyone is happy about it. Maybe they should start *listening* to their customers instead of forcing an unwanted business model down their throats.

          • JazzyMan123

*Listening* to their customers was what enabled them to get RO in the first place.

You know what? Lets just wait for more announcments then you two can go on again.

          • Luna Kazemaru

All I see if you bitching about DD releases aswell as that other guy most people I have seen aside from 3 or 4 others are neutral about the whole DD release thing.

          •  There’s more people upset about DD releases than on here. Believe it.

          • Maybe there are, but they at least realize that b*tching wont get them any further anyway. I’d like to believe in, that you will realize that soon as well.

          • “There’s more people upset about DD releases than on here. Believe it.”

When that statement is one-sided without any proof? When the (two) people actively voicing disdain are unreasonable?

Those make your words really hard to believe as fair statements.

        •  Do you even realize that with physical releases, the publisher has to pick up the tab for unsold copies, or that publishers don’t even get half of the money from the sale of a physical game (a good chunk of it goes to retailers and production costs).  The savings from digital releases will allow XSEED to localize more games, especially games like Corpse Party that they would have lost money on otherwise.
Also there’s no need to complain here, a physical release of Ragnarok Odyssey has already been confirmed. https://twitter.com/#!/Hatsuu/status/198435252497162243

    • Unlike some ungrateful people, I’m glad we’re getting the game period.

      • HeatPhoenix

ungrateful? You’re paying for the game y’know. It has nothing to do with gratitude.

        • But they still picked up the game for English release, among other possible titles. Gratitude or not, it’s not hard to imagine why those anticipating it are happy, seeing as the resources spent on this release just could have gone to another game.

          • HeatPhoenix

Indeed, but that has nothing to do with gratitude. Moreso excitement.

  • It’s cool to see that you get annoyed by every announcement that they make and cry like a baby that you will have to download the game. Don’t like it, don’t buy it. They won’t miss a stubborn customer like you.

  • Luna Kazemaru

    And the QQers have arrived.

    • HeatPhoenix

That phrase just rubs me the wrong way for all the right reasons.

  • Locklear93

Woah, nice.  I’d been hoping Ragnarok Odyssey would find a US publisher.

  • As long as TiTS SC is coming… ^_^

    • JazzyMan123

No need to worry about that, XSeed is still marching onward with it and Falcom’s even looking into a SC PSN release.

      •  Is this true? Last I heard, Xseed’s statement was something like we’re trying kinda-sorta, don’t hold your breath.

        • Raharu95

The comment was more like, “we are trying kind of sort of, but we wil do all that we can.”

  •  Why do people want hard copies anymore? I prefer digital. Keeps me from losing it/breaking it/selling it when I’m broke, or having a bunch of game cases lying around.

    • JazzyMan123

I heard the Vita cards are kinda costly to produce.

    • Not all of us do.

No one’s saying digital shouldn’t be allowed for those who want it, but keep a physical option for those who want it as well.

    • Luna Kazemaru

I like both Digital and hard copies I also Love LE’s but yeah there a pros and cons of both versions but some people come up with some uncalled for hate. The irony is that some people that are mad about DD only where the same people calling people entitled.

      • Complaining about digital-*only* releases is not “uncalled-for hate”.

That’s blatant hyperbole, plain and simple.

        • Luna Kazemaru

I find it hard to take you seriously seeing as you only pop up for the most part to bash on Xseed or anything DD only.

          • SerendipityX

NP has a point though. The DD-only stance pretty much killed any access me and few of my friends had to Xseed’s games. I don’t why companies keep assuming that everyone has access to wifi. I live in USA and we still ain’t got nothin’ in my region. :(

          • Luna Kazemaru

That is a valid point there I can go with not everyone has great internet let alone 24/7 access but NP isn’t even saying that.

          • I don’t think it’s that they don’t understand that not everyone has Wi-Fi. I’m sure they’re well aware of this point. They probably simply have no choice, given the state of the platform and the potential audience for certain kinds of games.

        • JazzyMan123

Uh-huh, and what about that comment about XSeed back in that GKH article on how they are ‘lousy wankers’ as they couldn’t ‘secure a DD release only’ and ‘canceled it out of spite’?

        • So being digital-only qualifies/justifies hate? I’m not a full-on Digital supporter by any means – not in the current states anyway – but I doubt that repeatedly expressing hate is productive or mature.

    • JazzyMan123

I admit, that DD title Mutant Blob Attack! is pretty cheap and has good gameplay, more like those then maybe people won’t complain so much.

    • HeatPhoenix

I prefer hard copy as a collector, DD has no value to me.

  • JazzyMan123

Have you ever read the forums?

    •  Do you have proof?

      • I’ll give you a hint, he mentioned forums. Does that help you ?

      • JazzyMan123

Let me clarify, XSeed forums from users who give sources.

        Like Endless History.

      • JazzyMan123

I do AIM with them and I’m not sure if you would believe them either.

      • I’m currently looking up specs and cost of the Vita cards. I’ll get back to you with sources.

      • Now that I’ve reread what Jazzy was saying, I think he was meaning more in the whole production aspect of things. When you have to have a physical copy produced for a game, you have to produce/purchase at least three things:

        1) cartridge/disc
        2) cover insert
        3) case

In this case, since the numbers are easier to find, I’ll use DVD cases. I’m also only going to use a small number in mass production: 10,000.

Wholesalers can sell DVD cases by 100’s. I don’t know how it’ll function in the case of a mass order, specifically, but most wholesalers will sell 10,000 DVD cases for about $3,000.

Then you have to have the cartridges made or discs burned/pressed. Again, I don’t know the mass production costs in this case, but wholesale costs can go up in that area, as well. In the case of UMD (lawl, pun intended) you had to have the disc encased as well. I know it’s not a wholesale cost, but I paid about $8 for a set of 10 cases (without the UMD’s) when I had to replace some of my old ones.

Cover inserts. Printing costs will probably be the least of the worries at least. For 10,000 prints, you can imagine several hundred dollars to several thousand at the very least.

Again, this is all the first part of the process. Then you have to deal with distribution and warehousing and so forth, and a LOT of money goes into that. You have to pay a distributor to put the materials out onto store shelves, get them out to Amazon and other online retailers. You also have to hope that these stores that pick up your product aren’t going to put it somewhere where it’ll just gather dust and not be seen.

Then there are distro issues that can arise, like with Trails in the Sky last year. Many stores never got their copies in time for release date, because of an issue with the distributor. A bunch of Gamestops didn’t even get their copies for almost two weeks.

So you have this added overhead on top of the costs of production, translation, marketing, budgeting, etc etc etc… and it can indeed raise the production cost of a game. However, when you have a game *bomb* and it doesn’t earn ANY of that back, what do you then?

It’s not something easily handled in the end on the business end of things.

So in the end, compared to a digital purchase, having a physical release *is* a costly gamble.

…though I’m convinced that you’ll either claim I’m lying, despite having worked in the headquarters for a small video production company and saw how this worked… or you’ll say tl;dr and not believe me anyway.

But hopefully someone will see this and understand the risks. :(

  • AceWildCard

Another reason to convince me to buy a vita :D Xseed is bawse like chocolate sauce~

  • JazzyMan123

Then just don’t jump the gun so early and wait.

  • Luna Kazemaru

1.) This hasn’t even been confirmed DD only 2.) XSeed is in a bad spot as many have said but your thick skull can not rap around that but people on shoryuken would love you you’d fit right in with that bunch and congratz on mucking up the comments with your salt no better then the fool who go to every piece of news and post I hate IF/CH over and over.

  • Great i  have been waiting for  ragnarok to be put on DISC.
Now lets see if they can make another epic fail by doing DD only instead of making us! make the choice to buy it or Digital or on dics.

    • JazzyMan123

      Dude, nothing is confirmed yet…

    • Luna Kazemaru

And another shipment of fail arrives.

    • Okuni-chan

Digital or Disc I care not as long as I can play it (✿❛◡❛)ノ

    • Okuni-chan

Digital or Disc I care not as long as I can play it (✿❛◡❛)ノ

    • Michael Vu

       It’s not even on a disc! :)

    • Hatsuu confirmed on twitter that it is a physical release:

      • Awesome!!!
        Day 1!!!

        • Auragar

      • SerendipityX

        Thank GOD! (T__T)<——tears of joy

    • kupomogli

I hope it’s not on disc.  I don’t want it digital download either.  Cartridge sounds good though.

      • Auragar

lol I am assuming this was a cheap shot because the Vita plays cartridges not disks.

    • Juan Manuel M. Suárez

Thank you for proving my point that a bunch of you schmucks are in here to troll publishers without a clue of what you are complaining about. You want discs for your PS Vita? I’d tell you to save up and buy one so you’ll speak with some degree of knowledge next time you attack a company but I’m afraid first you need to use a coin to buy yourself a clue~.

  • Okuni-chan

*excited sugar dance* Man I didn’t even think this would be coming here. All but gave up and just waiting till I got a vita to import it. Now I just have to force my wallet to somehow give me more money than it has… (●´⌓`●)

  • JazzyMan123

HAHAHAHAHAHAHA, well, all you haters can suck it.

So much for ‘DD’ only eh, NP and thebanditking?

    • Luna Kazemaru

Watch they still try and complain.

      • JazzyMan123

I doubt even Neal Power will still believe this seeing as how he calls anyone who works at XSEED a ‘liar’.

        • Luna Kazemaru

I’m just going to get my tea ready.

Ooh, can I have some too?

  • Before people get too caught up in complaining about XSEED going “digital only,” Hatsuu has just proved you guys wrong.

Ragnarok Odyssey will have a physical release, according to her twitter:

Alternatively you could, you know, not throw your toys out of the pram whenever a game is being released digitally. You know, like you do every time for no reason, even when it’s clear you wouldn’t have bought the game anyway?

  • SirRichard

Here’s hoping they hop the pond like Corpse Party did, or maybe someone over here picks them up.

    Could always import, too.

  • *ahem*……. *clears throat* YES! I was worried they’d never bring Ragnarok Odyssey over here! GIMMEGIMMEGIMMEGIMME!

  • usagi_san

I am looking forward to Ragnarok Odyssey. The visuals look really good.

Orgarhythm seems interesting with the whole music/strategy thing but looking forward to a playable demo or more gameplay vids before making a decision.

  • MCoelho

I hope they have a physical relase.

    • JazzyMan123

Uh, didn’t you read the other article and the comments?

      • MCoelho

I did, when i said that i meant both games had a physical release,
        but Orgarythm isn’t yet confirmed.

  • Solomon_Kano

    Oh, how I’ve waited!

THANK YOU XSEED! Thank you so much. I said earlier this year that they probably had the best lineup for 2012 of any publisher. Well, scratch the probably now.

  • Crap! i have to get a ps Vita and a 3DS >.< hope Wii u can hold for a little longer.

    Console year  ; ;
