Stan Lee To Be Playable In The Amazing Spider-Man Game

By Ishaan . May 8, 2012 . 5:00pm

Stan Lee, co-creator of many of Marvel Comics’ popular characters and stories, has made a number of cameo appearances in Marvel’s live-action movies for the past decade. This summer, he’s going to be making his next cameo in The Amazing Spider-Man videogame as a briefly-playable character.

Yahoo report that Stan Lee will be featured in his own special mission in Beenox’s upcoming game, which takes place after the events of the movie of the same name. The mission will be available to players who pre-order the game through Amazon, and will involve tracking down the pages of a lost manuscript.

While traversing New York, you’ll be treated to Lee’s trademark banter. We aren’t sure if you’ll actually be able to swing through New York as Lee during the mission as the screenshot above suggests.

“This wasn’t easy for me, practicing all these moves. I’m just afraid when they see me do it, that may put Spider-Man in the shadows," Lee jokes. “I hope they don’t have me looking too realistic and life-like. That would be tough for the Spider-Man fans. I swung through the city like an average guy would do, instead of giving it my usual derring-do.”

Note: Activision haven’t announced which versions of the game Stan Lee will be present in, but the screenshot above is from the Xbox 360 version of the game.

Are we going to be strung along and not shown 3DS footage until release ala Edge of time?

  • aoihana

    Wow that’s awesome! (-^〇^-)

Although it isn’t confirmed, but rather suggested in the screen shot, I don’t see how you can get around the city, tracking down lost manuscript pages, without swinging around.

So, I’m betting that our neighborhood friendly Stan Lee will be able to swing around the city.

Either that, or take cabs around the city, making frequent pit stops, but I don’t think that would work!  (*^ワ^*)

Perhaps he could wait for the Fantastic Four to drop by and give him a lift, just like he suggested almost 20 years ago in the final episode of Spider-man TAS.

  • MrKappa

I hate to use an overused and overrated word but this Spider-Man game is looking epic.

    • And now Spider-Man is officially Excelsior!

  • And Joey will still not have brought him his coffee.

    • Göran Isacson

He’s Stan Lee with Spiderman powers- he is more than capable of getting his own coffee, and certainly doesn’t need no snot-nosed little girly brat to do it for him!

He just thinks it’s funny to let the kid work.

  • *swings around* EXCELSIOR!!! ’nuff said.

  • wot? Spider Stan?

  • Preorder bonuses need to go die in a pit of fire. Especially ones that involve in-game content.

    •  You mean specific retailer exclusive preorder bonuses. I’d rather there still be preorder bonuses for games.

  • Doesn’t look a thing like him in that screenshot… also does Stan Lee even own a suit?

  • Wow this is some epic stuff! GAbout time Stan Lee got in a game!

  • Kitestwinblades

Stan Lee is really starting to really put himself out there to the media.
Sounds like great DLC, old people are pretty neat to see in games. Kinda like grandmas with rocket launchers in the old GTA. Its something that video game have the power to make awesome, only this time its the creator of spider-man himself swinging building to building XD

If they ever make a video of him playing it, please post it Siliconera X3

    • Indeed, old people are pretty badass and filled with experience! Take Prof. Pickle, for instance. He went to some place called Spagnolia, and this is what happened:

      • Kitestwinblades

        ( °∀°) Lookit him GO!
You could make all SORTS of jokes about whats at the end of the level XDThank you for sharing this X3 This made my morning. Old people ftw

  • Christopher Carmona

I always order from Amazon, anyways. Looks like I get to be Stan Lee.

  • Göran Isacson

Fools, Stan Lee doesn’t need web-slinging: STAN LEE CAN FLY!

Man I wonder if there’s ANYONE who’s read Mightygodking parodies except me in here…

  • ShawnOtakuSomething

Stan Lee is so much kooler then Adam west

    • Guest

I need to finish watching Heroman…

  • AJ

You know, in that Incredible Hulk movie, it’s a joke that Stan Lee got infected with that Gamma serum.

It would have been better if Stan Lee turned into the Hulk…well more than he did in that one Simpsons episode.

  • Wait. What’s going on here–

  • Muffum

I wasn’t interested in this game in the slightest before, but now I feel compelled to preorder it. Like right now.

  • Solomon_Kano

Stan is STILL THE FUDGING MAN! Ahem. This sounds sweet.

  • Woah, Spider-Island :P

  • Closet_Ninja

wonder if stan lee will have his own one-liners cause that would be awesome

  • Will the city be safe and sane with him swinging around like that???

  • komiko12

my goodness! that’s one hilarious cameo ^^
maybe it’s their own way of giving credit to the creator.

Seems like “Oh Japan” has rubbed on on ol’ Stan Lee

Now all he needs is the Jaguardon Spider-Man mecha

  • Lol.

  • boundries_san

“I’m just afraid when they see me do it, that may put Spider-Man in the shadows”

Lee, ur existance has easily change this game title into “THE AMAZING STAN LEE”^^

  • usagi_san

Imagine if Stan Lee was in UMVC…? He’d be like Nightmare Unknown from Tekken with all the Marvel fighting styles being switched on the fly.

Batman: Arkham series (albeit I only played AC) has set the bar, for me. This game sounds like it is going to be very cool. I might have to pre-order this, just for Stan Lee.

EDIT: Correcting obvious mistake. Guess what it was?

    • nightmare is from Soul Calibur – Tekken’s “random” character is Mokujin.

      • usagi_san

*faceplam* I meant to say Unknown, but Mokujin works too. Thanks. :D

  • SirRichard

    Yeah, that’s definitely a game-seller.

  • The excelsior has been doubled. O uO

  • Scallion

Where’s my playable Steve Ditko and Jack Kirby?
